hey...i am playing come sail away on piano, but my sheet music cuts this part out...can you like give a link to where you found the music for this? i want to know what notes and stuff it is?
Sounds good man. I have an Alesis Ion and have been looking for the sound you have. Would you mind sharing what sound patch you started with, as I am sure you have tweaked the sound parameters some. Also, I have mine ran through a Digitech Digidelay to get the delay sound. I assume you are passing your Ion through some sort of delay unit? Thanks and keep it up.
Thanks for the compliment. It has been about a year since I worked on this song. I am not sure which patch I started with, but I don't recall doing much editing at all. And yes, I am using an external delay that is on my Yamaha AW4416 digital recorder. You have to have a ton of delay on this solo, especially during the last 4 measures. Let me look into this patch and see if it is a factory patch that maybe I just renamed for easy recognition and I will let you know.
WHy didn´t you use a sequencer from midi and then a more true sample? Hell soft synths could have but this with a midid controlelr far more accurate--wasn´t he using arps?
Hey there, thank you for the comment! Actually, I did learn the opening to fooling yourself about a year ago. When I get some time I will try to post a video of it.
Okay, I think I like the Alesis Ion. Hadn't heard of it until now. Very nice with the portamento and delay! Ear candy--finger candy! Nicely played, as usual!
Oh man, I absolutely love the Ion!!!It really is the best modeler synth I have ever played. It far surpasses the JP800 and Korg MS2000 in it's ability to reproduce the wonderful analog sounds of the 70's and 80's. It's warm and fat sounding, easy to navigate. But warning..No onboard delay!!!! I had to use an external for this song.
That is probably my favorite synth sound and performance of all time what you just did there. Is there any way you could help me reproduce that if I bought an Ion....PLEASE!!! That was AWESOME!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!
Thanks for the comment. There are two arps going in the song. I am playing the synthesizer arpeggio that you hear on top. The other is being played by a guitar on the Album. I am using a JP8000 for the arp in which I programmed C#-D#-C#-G#-C-C#-C-G# into the rps (sequencer on the jp8000). See next reply...
You are close but try the notes that I just gave you, repeating. If you are using a sequencer, you will have to start with D# since the first note C# starts on the (4 and) in the measure. In the video I used the Roland Juno 60 for just a basic bass line to put underneath this, even though this is not the actual bass line. If you can get a program like "Slow Downer" you will hear the arpeggio at a much slower speed and will be able to hear it better. Thanks for watching!
the Alesis ION is virtual analogue?

I found a Moog lead, dialed in the Portamento and added an external delay.

Oh, and doesn't it just kill you that Alesis did not put a delay effect in the ION!!! What were they thinking?

Well, I did use the Juno arp for the bass. I used the JP RPS for the 2nd arp. As far as sequencing, I never do it, it is a thorn in my side.

Wow awesome job! Have you ever tried playing that opening minute of Fooling Yourself by Styx? I really want to hear someone do a synth cover of that.
