We need a new Y desperately and I hope we can break ground soon. Our old building has many parts that aren't handicap accessible, an entire childcare program shares 1 bathroom, there's asbestos in the outside part of the building, and many other factors. The new Y won't strain on traffic and pollute the environment like people like to believe it would. Mahackeno is a beautiful and appropriate place for our new building.
It's nice that the Y is downtown but the size of the place can not handle the demand and amount of people who go there. There are over crowding issues.
If the Y does go to Mahackeno it should get it's own Merritt On and Off ramps.
People who are against the Y moving, Do you use and or go to the Y?
Hahahahahaha I lived in Westport almost all of my life, (I now live in Boulder CO) and I agree it is very beautiful. But, it's very different in The North East then most places.I.E. Other then some of the bigger towns like Stanford, Trumbul, or Grenege, there ARE no apartments in Fairfield County. Or very few. Most people by houses or live in town homs. It's very expensive to live there too.
I live in Atlanta, born and raised here, but I think Westport is very beautiful! If I could find an apartment, I'd move in a moment! It just looks so clean and friendly. Thanks, Charles
