I met Lamont Dozier, responsible for most of these girls hits. Told him Motown in the day was like a Christmas present any day of the year. He hugged me, hugged him back, both of us giggling about it.

The Supremes would not have been THE SUPREMES had it not been for that wonderfully and supremely talented DIANA ROSS!! They would have gone nowhere with Florence Ballard or Mary Wilson as lead.I've seen and heard Diana in person a number of times---it has always been a wonderful and very entertaining and enjoyable experience!!! I've seen and heard Mary in person once and I thought " thank God Berry Gordy knew what he was doing". She was not good, not even mediocre. Flo's voice stunk, too.

I grew up in the 60's,and it was the most exciting, fun time for the music, followed by the 70's and 80's. It was a fun, fun time, especially if you loved cars and music, which I did(do). Thanks for this great post. It truly is magic!

Listen to Florence purr out the word 'again' and the woooo's between her and Mary are just beautiful. For anyone watching this I would like you to know that the various lowlife comments made here are from rock-crawlers that have spent too much on cheap beer and drugs and not worth the attention they are seeking. The Supremes were one hell of a group. Diana overshadowed the other girls in much the same way other singers in other Motown and Girl groups and most did. It was a time of movement. A time of change in music, lifestyle pretty much everything from our fathers days.

Sometimes a person just wants to enjoy the music. People can be so IGNORANT, ESPECIALLY BLACK FOLKS. Only they could have a pettiness to call Ms. Ross, Diane, with that flippancy. Even though it is Diana on her birth certificate, it makes no difference on her parents’ intent. However a person wishes to be addressed is their name and that’s how you should address them. The black community has more nickname and surnames, but when it comes to her they have to start something.

Miss Ross' name on her birth certificate is Diane Ross. She was known as Diane by her family and friends and throughout her school years. It was only when she, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard signed at Motown was the name changed from Diane to Diana by Management, as it was deemed to have a better flow.

Mary herself says this in her book..Diana is actually going by what her birth certificate read. which was Incorrect because her father intended for her to be name Diane. folks make so big a deal about her changing a letter. Marilyn Monroes real name was Norma Jean. folks didnt make a deal about it. she changed one letter and folks are still talking about it 45yrs later. amazing.

Of course Diana shounds the best on HDH songs written for her.After Berry picked the lead singer he instructed them to write around her style.But on other covers of other Motown acts whose songs where written with them in mind.The leads should have been changed to Flo or Mary.Diane voice was not right for some of the covers on their albulms.She's versatile but like Envouge some of the leads should have gone the other way,.

I got everyone of Diana's solo CDs, but she would'nt have had the opportunity ro record them if it wasn't for Flo or Mary. Like their voices or not, it was them together who made the Supremes. No Supremes = No Diana Ross.

I agree with you in part - Diana clearly had the star power - BUT the Hall of Fame inducted "The Supremes" not "Diana Ross & The Supremes" and limited it to FLo, Mary and Diana - Clearly Flo and Mary's personalities and presence and performance contributed to the groups success as evidenced by the fact that after Flo was put out of the group and the "Supremes" were shoved into the background their popularity plummeted.

The Supremes would not have been THE SUPREMES had it not been for that wonderfully and supremely talented DIANA ROSS!! They would have gone nowhere with Florence Ballard or Mary Wilson as lead.I've seen and heard Diana in person a number of times---it has always been a wonderful and very entertaining and enjoyable experience!!! I've seen and heard Mary in person once and I thought " thank God Berry Gordy knew what he was doing". She was not good, not even mediocre. Flo's voice stunk, too.

I didn't see what was so great about Diana that she had to do all the lead singing. The other two never had a fair chance, even though their voices were better and they certainly could perform just as good as Diana or better. Florence certainly was Unsung. This performance is "brilliant" classic and wonderful. I love it! They all are enjoying this performance and their voices together are total magic. Listen to Florence purr out the word 'again' and the woooo's between her and Mary are just beautiful. Diana really conjures up the girlish innocence of this poetic tale and they just all clash into a huge symphonic orgy booming hard against the musical arrangements and it is breath-taking! I don't think the Diana/Mary know just how fabulous this is.
