As soon as he started speaking Japanese I could totally hear the Australian accent, and this is coming from an America.. funny I studied abroad in Japan and I'm planing on studying abroad in Perth
When she is ment to say she is studying English she doesn't. I want to know what she says. It sounds like "eihou to ato sukoshi hokano gogaku o benkyou shite imasu"
But I have no idea what that means.
Is it like; "studying English and afterwards a little bit of another language"?
(continued from previous comment) conversation so that I can listen to during the day at my summer job on an mp3 player. Just wondering if you know of anything and can point me in the right direction, thank you.
Hi, I am trying to learn Japanese too and have found this video helpful (expecially for learning general phrases). However I am looking for maybe a more advance and maybe even a semi-proffessional conversation 'tutorial' clip and I was wondering if you know of something suitable. I have jsut finished learning 5 years of Japanese at high school in Christchurch, New Zealand. I would like to know if there audio clips available on the internet somewhere of a reasonably advanced tutorial
@qazwsxedc36 Try JapanesePod101, they have some good stuff, and you can sign up at your appropriate level. japanesepod101 . com JapanesePod also post on YouTube: watch ? v = MYiEcPEZS2U
you are forcing your speaking waaay to soon. you need to listen arges before you can speak naturally. otherwise your brain has nothing to copy (which is all language learning is!) it has no frame of reference.
trying to speak to soon is the reason why people get stuck in bad habbits.. even after they become fluent they are still left with a really thick accent.
i think people are criticising because he doesnt even seam to be making an effort to pronounce things properly. This is usually because adults are too proud to 'sound silly' by copying the way japanese people actually speak. it really doesnt take long to learn how to pronounce the japanese 'R' at all....it just sounds funny, and people dont wanna be embarrased, but that still shouldnt stop you.
Excellent - I appreciate the hiragana and the corresponding english translation. Especially that the english words are in the japanese order. It makes what is being taught much, much clearer than most other videos out there.
James, you could look a little more enthused to be doing it though! :-p
Not really. There are on some words, like hana can mean "flower" or "nose," and I forget which is which off-hand. But for the most part, no, there aren't pitch rules, which is why it's easier for English speakers than something like Mandarin. :)
This guys pronunciation is is really quite painful to listen to. His stress is way off the mark - it lies on the wrong syllable in just about every word.
By the way, pumaneerd, it is pronounced 'dess' not 'desu' except when the speaker is being formal - such as you might hear it spoken by a shop assistant. The standard pronunciation is to leave the 'u' silent, likewise with the '-masu' verb conjugation.
i don't think people should try to learn from him. hehe.
his pronunciation is off....
also... the subtitles aren't quite right in some cases...
and something that should be stressed is that the use of 'あなた' or 'anata' to refer to the other person is not a common practice, especially among people who don't have a good relationship...
Not bad, especially for a beginner. I noticed some problems in your pronounciation, but hopefully you've patched that up now. And wow...the native's pronounciation is bad aswell..."Dess" not "Desuu". 頑張って下さい!!!:)
genki desu domo arigatou anata wa ? watashi no namae wa mohammed desu . arujeria karakimashita . damn but im living algeria . hahaha mais je vis en algerie c est pas possible
Do you know what you said? roughly, it says :Are you thank you very much? (the word meaning you is in the wrong place too) My name is also mohammed. (i'm sorry i have no idea what Arujeria karakimashita means, I am new to japanese, but i have a very good grasp of grammar.)
actually, saying "anata wa" is fine. あなたは? "and you?" is perfectly good japanese. coming out of nowhere and saying 「元気です。どうもありがとう。」is a little out of place though. i'm guessing arujeria is the romanized version of algeria in japanese. so arujeria kara kimashita->アルジェリアから来ました->i'm from algeria. not to be rude, but if you couldn't figure that out you probably shouldn't be correcting him!
The problem with this video is that the mic is too far away, and the words are a bit slurred. Try to get a little less background noise and speak the words a little louder and clearer. Great job otherwise.
Yes, this video has many problems, but it was the best I could do on the day. ThankU for your suggestions, and I will try to improve in future. Kind regards, James

I'd highly advise watching some Japanese drama shows, or if you're into any sort of anime. I don't know what all you know about the "genre", but there's a great variety of themes. I would personally recommend Monster (TV), Death Note, and Ergo Proxy, as I'm into psychological shows, though any sort of Japanese media is good. (Songs can confuse the hell out of you though.)
I found this video really useful :) It covers everything that we are learning in class, and a bit more. Thanks for uploading ^^

This was painful. Why is everything repeated twice? It's so unnatural. If it's supposed to help us learn, it's not doing a very effective job.

I personally think you did an exellent job.
Unfortunetly people always like to critique without understanding the hardwork put into the video.
Like making the conversation, having the text and over all appreciating the effort put into making such a video.
I for one appreciate the effort put in the video and I wish I could have said it to you earlier in time.
