more great video! Just discovered the other night and this is now my favorite channel on Youtube. Things that really help you stay peaceful are not hard to come by...it is just that we have become trained not to really look for them as much as we ought to. Modern 'rusharound' society gives a lot and it also takes a lot. When I drink a glass of water I try to think of a stream (instead of a water treatment plant!). Nature is not an option...we NEED it. These vids also help me remember that.
I'm glad you're enjoying these - we do indeed need some connection to nature in our everyday lives, even if it's only a video of the real thing :-) Thanks for the view and kind words!
You'll find a wide variety of video on this channel, but it's generally nature-related and a relaxing type of material.
On one of my other channels, TheNatureStation, you can find many natural relaxation type of videos, but none with music, as nature itself gets to do all the talking :-)
I usually download the MP4 version of the video directly from YouTube, and then extract the audio as an MP3. There are freeware download apps to snag the video (I've also posted instructions on my website) and then you can use SWITCH audio freeware from NCH software to do the audio extraction. :-)
Wow - I'm impressed! I have a LOT of videos online and if you've even watch a fraction of them, you were watching for quite a while! Thanks for all the attention and the nice comment! :-)
Isn't it amazing the therapeutic effects of flowing water and nature sounds? This one and the Pacific Ocean one are probably the two best vids for relaxing just before going to sleep. Glad it helped you out! :-)
So glad to hear you are enjoying this! :-) I have several others now on my nature-only channel - TheNatureStation - which you might also enjoy. Thanks for watching and commenting!

There is also a firmware hack for the S5 called CHDK which has an scripting capability - many functions are possible with it. :-)
OK. I don't know what happened but a while ago when I tried to view this, it said the video had been removed but now it's playing. Maybe You Tube is or was doing maintenance. Nice video work.
Ahh ok I know what you mean... It has something to do with YT's default playback source for HQ/HD. There are actually 5 different files (that I know of) on YT's servers for each HD video upload. You can pick which one you see by using the &fmt=## URL command. (valid numbers are 1, 6, 18, 22, 34). Sometimes, YT changes which one you see by default (not sure why) and when in the process of switching them you get that error. There may other other reasons, too. Anyway, glad it's working again! :-)
Yes it is - there are quite a few really nice places like this, but you have to get there really early (like daybreak on a Sunday) to hear the nature without the humans! :-)
I had to come back to watch this again. I hope this type of video will turn into a playlist, I really enjoy the sound of the water (in addition to the music of Technician, of course :F) Chapped lower lip =]
Ooooo that lip looks painful! :'{ In the future, I plan to record the natural places I visit as well as the critters I look for in them. Some of the habitats are really spectacular, hard to reach and seldom visited by humans. I should be able to come up with a long playlist eventually. If I add music to the nature sounds I'll always be sure that it's suble and not overpowering. :-)
I'm really glad you enjoyed this one. It was a pleasure to make and nice to be able to share the sights and sounds I experience when I'm out in the field. Thanks so much watching and the nice comments :-)
Perfect peace! Transitions exceptionally smooth and well-paced, music does not overpower the nature sounds, great subtle saturation of natural color, water ripples almost hypnotic. This one's a keeper for those dry triple digit Arizona summer afternoons.... thanks!
I can imagine this would make a nice escape from the blazing hot summer! I will test it out here too - we get 100F+ spells in summer as well. Even better, this stream runs year-round so I can just go jump in! Thanks for the great comment :-)
Now that's just sad. Human activities like that shouldn't be allowed to ruin all the surrounding places as well. It's nice that I can record and provide nice scenes like this for everyone to enjoy but it would be a shame if it were the only way left to experience it.
So peaceful, I'm so lucky to live near mountains and there are rippling streams and clear rivers all around. I love to just sit and listen to the water flowing and the birds in springtime.
The only trick is getting there before everyone else... picknickers, fishermen, motorcyclists, people walking their barky dogs, etc. etc. At 6AM you actually get to hear nature (mostly) - gotta be up with the early birds! :-)
I've seen the scenery in some of your vids - looks wonderful! I live only about 40 miles north of Los Angeles city proper and this town has really grown, so it's getting pretty hard to find anything like that around here. Even so, I still know a couple of places nearby where people never go (because they don't know it's there and access to it is very difficult) but eventually I will have to move much further away from the cities to have the environment I really want. Rural rules! :-)
This is the sort of positive response that will no-doubt push me off the fence and into production! Thanks so much for the kind words and encouragement :-)
Nice video and music and sounds but where are the beavers and dippers? Or do you have them in California is it? Makes me want to go to the mountains this summer and do a video and get back to nature and bring it back to share with others like you are doing. Thanks!
I know there are Dear, Raccoons, Bobcats and Foxes around, but I think this particular location is close to civilization for really seclusive larger animals. It's getting hard to find really wild places any more, at least without days and days of travel to get there. Thanks for the nice note and view! :-)
That was wonderful this is the sort of thing Im into. I listen to this type of music when Im trying to go to sleep, you've done a great piece of work here Im going to add this one to my favourites.
I'm happy to hear that :-) I've been considering a series of CD/DVD-length meditation/relaxing soundtracks/videos featuring some of the great places in nature I visit on my adventures.
If the response to these few initial experiments is strong enough I'll push ahead with the project. Thanks for watching and commenting! =D
Thanks for the great comment! I just noticed that it's playing in stereo by default now too. I hope it's doing that for everyone who isn't watching in HD :-)
Awesome HD production, jcm! Video and sound quality are simply amazing. This video leaves me with a very peaceful and warm feeling, and since it's 6 below zero outside..I can use all the warm feelings I can get.;)
It was a little chilly the morning I shot this (not trying to ruin your warm fuzzy or anything!) but nothing like sub-zero! ...and it DID warm up to the low 70's later in the day. Thanks for letting me melt some snow :-)
Gorgeous! This takes me back to times when I'd park for hours by a mountain stream in Virginia, before I moved to the tropical flatlands. I find myself almost always using full screen for HD now, because it does justice to full screen. The lesser resolutions, even HQ, just don't make it blown up that big.
I'm happy to hear you got to use the full screen HD view - the quality is really getting decent even for uploaded material. Thanks for the view and great comment :-)
Beautiful, JC! Marvelously and serenly done. It's a bit amazing to me that you achieved capturing the pristine, delicate music of nature during any daylight hours without any manmade machinery noises intruding. Most of the time I find myself cursing like a bar wench while trying to capture those delicate, subtle moments, no matter how early or late. (cont'd. long comment . . .)
I also really appreciate how you mixed your music so softly in the background. Too often relaxation cds have the music drowning out the subtlties of nature. This authenticly captures how it feels to be there in the moment, with the subtle internal music drifting through. Beautifully done! :)
Darn 500 char limit! Hahaha XD I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed the soundtrack - it was more work than the video itself... post-prod EQ, re-mixing, etc. ...and yes it was a challenge getting ONLY the nature sounds, even at 6 AM. The birds seem most active then but humans make so much noise and it always seems that there's someone or something around to hose-up the recording! I was torn about the music, too... just a little or none at all. Glad it worked out. Thanks so much for watching! =D
I'm happy to hear you were able to watch in full screen - it really fills the display nicely the way it is meant to be seen. Thanks for watching and nice comments :-)
Really smooth the way the music breaks gently into the natural sounds and lends another dimension of sensation. Another interesting thing is the camera panning upstream as the water flows downstream. Something different and something wonderful.
Hi T! Thanks for noticing those subtle touches. You have a good eye for detail and seem to know right where my efforts went into this project. I miss your nature vids and hope you get your video mojo back soon - maybe make me a few snow angels before winter is over ;-)
Something about the sounds - even if one doesn't watch the video - just listening to the soundtrack on headphones in HQ stereo melts stress away. Great thing about nature! Thanks for watching :-)
That stream is one of the nicer places in my area, but you have to get there really early in the morning to hear only the sounds of nature. Later in the day all the human-related activity (traffic, planes overhead, dogs barking, etc.) drowns-out the natural ambience to some degree. Still, it's a great place to go hike or just hang out. Good to "see" you - thanks for stopping by! :-)

ballstatesucks 2 years ago
The automatic timed shutter function is known as an "intervalometer". Not many cameras have them. I am using a Canon 5S-is, which does NOT have one, BUT, you can hold the shutter button down and it will take pictures (about 1 every second) until the memory card fills or batteries expire. A clotheshanger bent into a "C" shape holds the shutter button down nicely! There is also a firmware hack for the S5 called CHDK which has an scripting capability - many functions are possible with it. :-)
