@srocek1 Sure, buddy, I'm assuming that means you've never actually tried to use firefox or chrome for any modern javascript-heavy apps yourself. Seeing is believing. Run the demo at the link I provided, and you'll open up your mind a bit.
@100broken001 Definitely a fair statement. If that's what you're used to, then that's your preference. In the realm of opinion, no one can argue with you.
@azrocker1 That, and I think since this video was made, the javascript engine has had some additional boosts. I think 3.5 saw the biggest improvements. Not quite Chrome speeds, but at least it's in the same ball park. That, and it still has a slightly faster rendering engine.
@BirchFilmCompany Like I mentioned above, this was done with version 3. I think in 3.5, they gave the engine a pretty nice boost. I'll have to make an updated version of this at some point.
While an explorer may not be as neat as a fox on fire or a piece of chrome, I'm sure everyone likes it better than a safari. For those of you who don't understand, I'm saying the more important thing here is that Apple's Safari browser is the worst.
@ucanttuchdis5678 If you run this demo yourself, then you certainty will. The difference in the javascript engine performance is so vast that the computer that could run the javascript in IE as fast as an average computer running javascript in Chrome does not exist. We are talking many orders of magnitude here. But like I said, seeing is believing...correction...knowing.
@Somedude069 I do have Chrome on my computer, and I have not noticed any difference between IE8 and Chrome. Actually, one time Chrome froze my computer when I attempted to upload and audio file. Never happened with IE8.
@KasplazmTV Looking at it now, I think it may have been the 8 beta at the time. However, the javascript engine received little to no upgrade between the two versions. If you run this test in IE8 for yourself, you will see what I mean.
Wow, I tried it. I'm pretty impressed! I just got Google Chrome yesterday. I should have gotten this a lot earlier. And I should have had Firefox years and years ago. I switched from IE and I'm not looking back.
i dunno why but...IE8 works great 4 me...firefox makes my youtube videos freeze and won't allow then to start alot more often than IE8...and chrome is weird...but i might get used to it....
I installed IE8 and immediately got the MSN malware, Realtek virus malware, ccScvHst malware x2, NDSTray malware, wuauclt malware, plus jumping of its own accord to previous web pages. Negative marks are need for such an paralyzing product. IE8 also uses twice the memory of IE7.
I suggest Microsoft just surrender in their war against the human race, rather than continuing their total control, revolt against reason. I'm sure their victims will forgive them. Even in Iraq when they arrive.
I prefer Firefox in general mainly because of Add-ons, a very useful tool across many websites. Their open dev team seems to update the browser often enough, and I rarely have problems with it.
I will have to check out Chrome 2, but I have a feeling that I will still prefer Firefox.
Wow, I am amazed at the results! I appreciate this. I have been using the newest of Firefox though which seems to be the same results as Chrome 2, Firefox 3.6. It is the version that has just released after the Beta, although it is not the final. I get very fast results.
It was a joke, I went to the latest of IE - with chugging results! Completely BS! I have always hated IE, and it's inability to properly display webpages. Always had trouble when working in dreamweaver...
it's because all three are open at the same time. IE takes only a bit of the system power, because firefox and google chrome "want" the most of it to make this thing fast. i tested it on my computer with all three browsers and there were only little differences because i didn't used all three browsers at the same time.
@alterbyme Here's the link. And yes, I do have a beef with Microsoft. But this is BECAUSE of internet explorer and how much they have stalled the development of the web. Ask any cross browser developer. IE is a freakin nightmare.
So try it. And after you do, all you MS fanboys can suck it. Sorry for the crassness, but so many people blindly defending a product that you have no idea about is quite sickening to any web developer.
I can also try to convince a blind man that red is different than blue.
If you are afraid of change and comfortable with IE because you've been using it all your life, more power to you. It's your opinion and that's your prerogative.
What is NOT a matter of opinion is the raw performance criteria. This is just one aspect of why IE is inferior that the layman can understand. The rest require you to be a web dev.

@Somedude069 If you're an average joe who just uses the internet for browsing the internet, then there is no noticeable difference between Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox, at least on my new HP.
The fuck kind of test is this, doesn't prove jack shit. Internet Explorer is the superior browser if you dont have have a fucked up computer like yours.
@alterbyme Ok, that doesn't even make sense. That's like a remark from a Will Ferrell movie. And if those characters are anything like you're trying to be, then high five little buddy. Don't forget your drool bucket on the way out.
@TheTechGuru09 Ok, "TechGuru" apparently you need to brush up on your tech knowledge a bit. This example demonstrates the weakness of the javascript engine which is entirely client side.
And to those who are not actually tech people, that means that this is entirely independent of your internet connection once the script is downloaded.
@TheTechGuru09 Yes, your ram counts for the final number. However, the relative speed remains the same. If IE has 1/5 the javascript interpreting speed of Chrome (which is roughly correct) then that means on any given machine, Chrome will be 5 times faster with javascript.
Oook. Very well thought point. The ultimate fan boy. Now everyone give the gentleman a hand while he's helped onto the short bus.
Like I've said about a billion times in this thread, this demo isn't about Chrome being the best. It's about IE being the worst. If everyone on the planet jumped onto ANYthing but IE, we web develpers would sing songs of praise as 50 years would be added to our lives.

Lol. See, most people would block such childish statements. I, however, prefer to keep them up to keep in plain view for everyone the ugly face of children and fanboy-dom. Even if the core of what they say is true, the fact remains that fanboys ruin the world.

i like google crome cause of its hame page. and its like instant startup. unlike explorer and firefox witch take like 10 sec. chrome takes like 1 second. but also google chrome doesnt let you do some stuff. i remember there was this thing i was trying to download and it said i had to use explorer
firefox is very good and safety with addons but google chrome is much faster and lighter from firefox...but with no good addons yet....explorer finished 4 after the new opera.....
i used IE and it's shittttt, i used firefox and it's good, but i used google chrome i just stayed with it and i feel it is the best browser i ever used.... gooo chrome....is the BESSSST
PLEASE HELP ME! ive downloaded some shit and my internet explorer and Firefox stopped working! FUCK... i cant do annything! i use google chrome 2... my savior! please help me!
lol i tryed this game with the newest ie and internet explorer is fuking shittt is even slower than in this fuck microsoft but when i played it with chrome its was sooo fuking smoootthhh!!! GOOGLE ROCKS!!
This is "Broken" by 12 Stones. A bit old, but damn good song. All you rock fans should do yourself a favor and check out the CD "Potter's Field". Good shtuff!
And in fact, if ANYTHING, the fact that chrome looks the slowest is amusing. You haven't proved anything. You've put a 3 year old microsoft broswer, versus 2 new other ones. The fact that SO MANY people say they didn't get your results prove you're bullshitting.
You know what, people? I was going to purge rambling lunatics comments, but I think his asinine-ery serves to display how much of a blinded fan-boy he is. All I have to say is visit a javascript benchmark testing site for yourself (search "javascript benchmark") and you'll see how IE's order of magnitude in performance is not even comparable to any other browser...no matter WHICH version is used. So high five little buddy! Someday, you'll be all grow'ed up and no longer be blind to facts.
Just google or look at a picture of each on google images. IE8 has ONE favourites button that says favorites and has the star next to it. IE7 has two, one just a star and the other a star with a plus sign. Stop using older broswers just to make one seem slow. Chrome has been tested to be the least secure browser, and ie8 is the most secure, just google that.
*Sigh*... What an absurd little man. If that were, in fact, the case, go ahead and post a rebuttal demonstration. This is IE8. And if for some insane reason it were IE7, Microsoft didn't make any major overhauls to the Javascript engine that would have resulted in your straight-up lie.
Ugh...Some of you are starting to give me a migraine. Opinions are great for you and yours, but here I'm hoping that nothing but cold, hard facts are brought up.
Judging by the way your windows are layed out, you loaded Chrome first. That may be why it's running better. Either way, I did the same thing with Firefox, and it ran perfectly. Try showing us it one at a time, rather than having it all loaded up at once. Chrome was probably burning most of your processor power, as that's what has happened to me. It uses ALOT of ram to run that browser.
How about this...why don't you run the experiment again on your own with one window open at a time. Things of that nature would only matter if the browsers javascript interpreting engines were roughly the same speed. However, Chromes is many orders of magnitude faster than either option.
Once again people...I'm not touting Chrome as much as I'm trying to kill IE. If you're using FF, more power to you. Just PLEASE STOP USING IE!!!
Google Chrome is actually faster and uses less system recourses than Firefox, Don't thumbs down me as what I have just said is actually a proven scientific fact. I like Firefox and used it for a very long time but the fact remains Google Chrome is smarter and faster.
Yes...yes, my computer is "slow as shit", yet Chrome and FF have the magical ability to NOT run...ahem...."slow as shit". I think this magical property is called "a far more advanced and efficient javascript interpreting engine." Now, when you sleep, make sure you're face up so you don't drown in your own drool, little buddy.
I add that I am using Firefox since a few years now, and I find it sometimes slow (not since 3.5 though) but I have a lot of useless & heavy plug-ins like cooliris, forecastfox for the weather and so on...funny features.
Anyway the point is, I think, a lot of people are like me with 4-5 years old computers, and just want a fast access to standard informations: emails, news, bank account, watch some videos.
For that, any browser is of course better than IE8.
Thus for "normal users", regardless to geeky benchmark tests, Firefox is still the best for me and I don't see why I would change since chrome terms of user licence are sometimes a bit weirdo....
Now I reckon for IE users (after 1 year under Windows, if you still use IE, I consider you might not want to care about Chrome anyway since you might not have asked yourself how the fuck could i upgrade my browser), there is a big change, but Frefox isn't harder to use than Chrome.
... in IE 7 and in Firefox 3 you have a Norton Toolbar. Toolbars normaly make the Web Browser go more slowly than normal and in the only browser you dont have the toolbar, in Google Chrome, is the quickest one...
Oook. You do realize that you're complaint is the equivalent of saying a race between TO and Tom Arnold isn't fair because Tom Arnold had more drag from his leg hair.
Yes, FF and IE both had the same "Handicap", but FF still blew it away. Repeat the experiment again for yourself. Hell, give Chrome the handicap. I promise the results will be about the same.
REMINDER: I'm not saying you should all use Chrome. I'm saying STOP USING THE BROKEN IE!
firefox plays javascript best on my computer but when i play Runescape (online MMO by Jagex) it sometimes just stops... maby ill find an add-on to help or something
Ooook. I'm just gonna clear something up for you there. Sure, if you've got a beast of a system, you can run anything, but how would you like to run a calculator program that requires a super computer?? Inefficient apps are just plain ugly. And IE is about as ugly as you can get.
I'm starting to find that my beloved FF with all its plugins is turning into the next IE. While I hope that changes, I at least hope that Chrome can get some more meat onto it before this tranformation is complete.
There are several things that can be brushed off as a matter of opinion. The only problem is that when it comes to the "best" browser debate, the only thing that people can honestly say about IE is that they are more comfortable with it. If you're not a tech person, and don't care to change with the times, more power to you. However, those who vigorously (and baselessly) defend IE as "better" need to be poked in the eye.
We web developers don't care what browser you use so long as IE dies.
erveryone has there own opinion...me i use ie6 because...well idk i like it more than ie7 and 8 i have firefox and chorme installed but still i use ie 6 more =]
You're right. Everyone has their own opinion, but that only refers to your preference. Some people would rather drive a Hugo than a Lambo. Pure preference there. However when it comes to objective benchmarks such as javascript engine performance and quirks or html rendering standards adherence, any version of IE is lightyears lagging. And IE 6 (which I have to debug for old clients daily) is by far the worst of the bunch.
Well it depends on your ram, memory, and just all together how your computer runs like...
for me Google chrome, Opera10, IE 8 are same but Firefox and IE 7 are the same.... i know that seems almost unreal but i did take all plugins off and put best ones in before firefox just doesnt run good,
For my IE its slower. I use more Google chrome, its more faster loading Flash animations and Images than Firefox, Firefox its good but i don´t like it.
I agree with this video I use Mozilla for daily work becaues it has more plugin than Chrome. I use chrome when im surfing and showing my friend something cool since its fast.
chrome is faster. but thats not everything. i'm not that interested in saving 4 milliseconds of my life. chrome does consume a lot of ram (slowing down other programs) anyway. but most annoying is that chrome practically owns you when you use it. everything you put through that browser they claim they can use in ANY way. it's in their terms and conditions when you install it. plus they install 'google update' which runs in the background ALL the time which in the t&cs say they have a right to.
I think everyone is missing the point of the video. Unlike some videos that measure the difference in 100ths or 1000ths of a second between page loads, this is an actually tangible demonstration of how the JAVASCRIPT engine speed differs. Most of the we is going to "Web 2.0" style which means heavy javascript usage. The IE javascript engine will under NO circumstances run faster than FF in the same environment, let alone Chrome, which was designed for JS interpretation speed..
That is actually true. Since each tab is it's own instance, it does take up more ram. If you have a lower end computer, you will notice it chug under normal operation with lots of tabs open.
However, one problem with Firefox that was supposed to be fixed in 3 was its massive memory leaks. Like Chrome, if you have a decent computer, you will not notice this. But if you ahve been running FF for a few hours, check the task manger. You'll see FF taking 250+MB of ram for no reason.
I'm sorry, but statements of this nature are some of the most asinine a person can make. If it's you'r OPINION, more power to you, but please state facts here.
Yes, I really like Firefox. For the most part, I recommend that #1 because of how much support there is for it due to it's time on the market. And until Chrome, it was my personal #1 choice.
However, the purpose of this video was to demonstrate only 1 of the tons of reasons to drop IE, and in javascript, Chrome illustrates this best.
What can I say. Seem to be plenty of ignorant fan boys in YouTube land.
For everyone else who is capable of logical thought, just give FireFox or Google Chrome a try. You might just might find out for yourself how much better they are.
If you don't think these are better than IE for more of a reason than "It's too different", then more power to you. However, the chances of that are slim to none.
Nooo. What I demonstrated was that the javascript interpreting engine is painfully slow. And guess what new web sites are making HEAVY use of? That's right: javascript! All the shiny new interfaces today are javascript heavy.
In fact, the IE dev team openly admits this, but they try to downplay the importance of this in modern web apps by highlighting how they can load plain-jane pages .00001 sec faster.
Would you call that "marketing", "spin", or just plain "removed from reality."
This is only one example of IE insanely slow javascript interpretation engine (which even Microsoft admits "is not the fastest").
Since you appear to "know" what's up, run your own javascript interpretation. It's ridiculously easy to run and time a loop. Bet you money Google will run a large javascript loop no less than 50 times faster than IE.
I'm not advocating Chrome as much as I'm trying to open IE users' eyes. Any non-Microsoft exclusive developer will thank you for not using IE.
Nice Nice Video. I really loved your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. If you need any help getting your video exposed, check out this site called tubeviews [dot net] It has really done wonders for me, I have built 3 Channels up with videos at top in position and this is my forth channel i'm going to working on.

And in fact, if ANYTHING, the fact that chrome looks the slowest is amusing. You haven't proved anything. You've put a 3 year old microsoft broswer, versus 2 new other ones. The fact that SO MANY people say they didn't get your results prove you're bullshitting.
wheatenowner 2 years ago
You know what, people? I was going to purge rambling lunatics comments, but I think his asinine-ery serves to display how much of a blinded fan-boy he is. All I have to say is visit a javascript benchmark testing site for yourself (search "javascript benchmark") and you'll see how IE's order of magnitude in performance is not even comparable to any other browser...no matter WHICH version is used. So high five little buddy! Someday, you'll be all grow'ed up and no longer be blind to facts.
Somedude069 2 years ago
Oh yeah, and heard of Firebug for IE? it exists.
wheatenowner 2 years ago
Just google or look at a picture of each on google images. IE8 has ONE favourites button that says favorites and has the star next to it. IE7 has two, one just a star and the other a star with a plus sign. Stop using older broswers just to make one seem slow. Chrome has been tested to be the least secure browser, and ie8 is the most secure, just google that.
wheatenowner 2 years ago

wheatenowner 2 years ago
That's not even IE8. If you look at the favorite buttons, you can even tell it's IE7. I ran this same test and IE8 came first, with chrome last.
wheatenowner 2 years ago
*Sigh*... What an absurd little man. If that were, in fact, the case, go ahead and post a rebuttal demonstration. This is IE8. And if for some insane reason it were IE7, Microsoft didn't make any major overhauls to the Javascript engine that would have resulted in your straight-up lie.

Firefox is the best web browser yet. Plain and simple.
rock962000 2 years ago
Ugh...Some of you are starting to give me a migraine. Opinions are great for you and yours, but here I'm hoping that nothing but cold, hard facts are brought up.
Bottom line...please refrain from "fan-boy"-dom.
Somedude069 2 years ago
Judging by the way your windows are layed out, you loaded Chrome first. That may be why it's running better. Either way, I did the same thing with Firefox, and it ran perfectly. Try showing us it one at a time, rather than having it all loaded up at once. Chrome was probably burning most of your processor power, as that's what has happened to me. It uses ALOT of ram to run that browser.
piemasterzim99 2 years ago
How about this...why don't you run the experiment again on your own with one window open at a time. Things of that nature would only matter if the browsers javascript interpreting engines were roughly the same speed. However, Chromes is many orders of magnitude faster than either option.
Once again people...I'm not touting Chrome as much as I'm trying to kill IE. If you're using FF, more power to you. Just PLEASE STOP USING IE!!!

Google Chrome is actually faster and uses less system recourses than Firefox, Don't thumbs down me as what I have just said is actually a proven scientific fact. I like Firefox and used it for a very long time but the fact remains Google Chrome is smarter and faster.

your running all of them at the same time fucking idiot and your computer is slow as shit.
GaNgStEr719 2 years ago

Have fun on the net! :)
B0bbleG0m 2 years ago
Thus for "normal users", regardless to geeky benchmark tests, Firefox is still the best for me and I don't see why I would change since chrome terms of user licence are sometimes a bit weirdo....
Now I reckon for IE users (after 1 year under Windows, if you still use IE, I consider you might not want to care about Chrome anyway since you might not have asked yourself how the fuck could i upgrade my browser), there is a big change, but Frefox isn't harder to use than Chrome.
B0bbleG0m 2 years ago
... in IE 7 and in Firefox 3 you have a Norton Toolbar. Toolbars normaly make the Web Browser go more slowly than normal and in the only browser you dont have the toolbar, in Google Chrome, is the quickest one...
MrPeeepe 2 years ago
Somedude069 2 years ago
I think the same way as you... IE has to disappear!!

with that options i can run all navegators
KillFront 2 years ago

Somedude069 2 years ago
chrome is really fast but when you download it you have to download a flash player and that sould give viruses

erveryone has there own opinion...me i use ie6 because...well idk i like it more than ie7 and 8 i have firefox and chorme installed but still i use ie 6 more =]
oadhamo 2 years ago
You're right. Everyone has their own opinion, but that only refers to your preference. Some people would rather drive a Hugo than a Lambo. Pure preference there. However when it comes to objective benchmarks such as javascript engine performance and quirks or html rendering standards adherence, any version of IE is lightyears lagging. And IE 6 (which I have to debug for old clients daily) is by far the worst of the bunch.
Somedude069 2 years ago
Well it depends on your ram, memory, and just all together how your computer runs like...
for me Google chrome, Opera10, IE 8 are same but Firefox and IE 7 are the same.... i know that seems almost unreal but i did take all plugins off and put best ones in before firefox just doesnt run good,

I agree with this video I use Mozilla for daily work becaues it has more plugin than Chrome. I use chrome when im surfing and showing my friend something cool since its fast.
KiraxxKun 2 years ago
chrome is faster. but thats not everything. i'm not that interested in saving 4 milliseconds of my life. chrome does consume a lot of ram (slowing down other programs) anyway. but most annoying is that chrome practically owns you when you use it. everything you put through that browser they claim they can use in ANY way. it's in their terms and conditions when you install it. plus they install 'google update' which runs in the background ALL the time which in the t&cs say they have a right to.
raafhornet 2 years ago
I'm using windows 7 RC and IE 8 is faster than FF in my computer.I guess they have improved a lot.
BACK TO THE COMPETITION!!!!
fuc180 2 years ago
I think everyone is missing the point of the video. Unlike some videos that measure the difference in 100ths or 1000ths of a second between page loads, this is an actually tangible demonstration of how the JAVASCRIPT engine speed differs. Most of the we is going to "Web 2.0" style which means heavy javascript usage. The IE javascript engine will under NO circumstances run faster than FF in the same environment, let alone Chrome, which was designed for JS interpretation speed..
Somedude069 2 years ago
for my computer google chrome loads the fastest, then IE and way behind is firefox
cpzd83 2 years ago 2
Yes, I've observed this odd behavior recently in firefox. Sometimes, it takes so long that there's no way it could be only loading itself to run.
I think the issue might be a painfully slow update check process that's only worsened by Firefoxes star: It's plugins that it also checks on.
Somedude069 2 years ago
sometimes it acctualy loads the fastest so a really dont know whats going on.
btw do whats the name of this song pretty cool =)

Somedude069 2 years ago

cpzd83 2 years ago

Somedude069 2 years ago

What can I say. Seem to be plenty of ignorant fan boys in YouTube land.
For everyone else who is capable of logical thought, just give FireFox or Google Chrome a try. You might just might find out for yourself how much better they are.
If you don't think these are better than IE for more of a reason than "It's too different", then more power to you. However, the chances of that are slim to none.
Somedude069 2 years ago
wat ur experiment proved is IE8 is not good 4 playing high grapic games but the load time is still faster then foxfire and chrome
muntasir20 2 years ago
Somedude069 2 years ago
lol chrome is using the videocard, that app you are running must be very special to see the differnce.
nizzetrail 2 years ago
This is only one example of IE insanely slow javascript interpretation engine (which even Microsoft admits "is not the fastest").
Since you appear to "know" what's up, run your own javascript interpretation. It's ridiculously easy to run and time a loop. Bet you money Google will run a large javascript loop no less than 50 times faster than IE.
I'm not advocating Chrome as much as I'm trying to open IE users' eyes. Any non-Microsoft exclusive developer will thank you for not using IE.
