  • Amazing man you should make a second one

  • i hope my hair stays that neat if there is an apocalypse.

  • in the future I will make an apocalyptic series w/ a character like that

  • This was fantastic.

    "Liked" and "Favorited".

I love the realistically surreal look this movie has; and the almost colorless look really goes well with the overall setting and mood. Must have been really cool to shoot in a place like that too.

  • lame

  • Id like to see more of these post-apocalyptic shorts!

  • Ludovico Einaudi, I was just listening to this song! Great movie, really like the color correction. Did you just desaturate and add darkness?

  • What camera have you used while filming, movie looks great and the music too, really good

  • @AntoMarkunovic Cheers. I used a Sony HDRXR520V

  • Awesome!

  • great video wish you the best of luck in your filming

  • THAT WAS AWESOME GREAT EFFECTS LET ALONE THE MUSIC

  • I like the music. Very bleak. Awesome short.

  • where did you get the gas mask?it looks pretty good

  • @MethmerHypnotize from ebay for about sixteen pounds

  • I would like to see a full length re-make of this. A British independant film with a respecteble budget based on this video would be good..

  • Canned food is underrated. At least there will be enough of it after the apocalypse :)

  • The lesson here is never bluff someone w/ an empty pistol. It will likely get you killed.

  • @flatbadger this is the best post-apocalyptic movie ive seen on youtube, really good. Can i ask how you do that colour removal, greyscaley type effect, it looks great.

  • Hello,

good job ;) i'm french and i try to create a short film post apocalyptic with 0€.please look and subscribe ^^

tape "MILTAKE" in search bar thx :) or click CMAProduction70

  • i think the shot of the explosion in the beginning looked a little weak for an opening shot. it also had nothing to do with the film imho. but, this was very nicely done regardless! i guess i just thought it should have began with the main character already approaching the building. good camerawork and it was unpredictable.

  • @gsimon123 I feel the explosion at the beginning had everything to with it. It put the narrative in context whilst also defining the genre and setting of the story. It also established the basis of the plot by being incorporated into point of view style shots which coupled with the audio of the crying baby created a bleak and somewhat hopeless atmosphere which was continued throughout the film. Regardless of our disagreements I appreciate the feedback :)

  • @flatbadger valid points! i suppose i just didn't want an info dump. if the scene was removed it would still make perfect sense to me. many post-apocalyptic stories avoid revealing to much info about the actual apocalypse to focus on the characters journeys. The Road is one great example. since you have good characters and conflict why not go straight to it? but i'd rather compliment you on your atmosphere and style. youtube needs more vids like this and less "charlie bit my finger" crap! cheers

  • @flatbadger The actual explosion really only set the situation context and genre. I agree it is a little weak. The shot of the room with the baby crying is the defining factor of the whole movie so it's important. The mushroom cloud could have been done without and just a shot of baron land and the sound of the explosion along with some orange light seeping over the hill to show there is something on the other side but as to keep some suspense. Will continue.

  • @flatbadger Also the fight scene needed to be redone. You simply don't have the Hollywood budget to do a good fight scene showing action. In addition the less show the more that is left to the imagination. When he tackled the gun guy to the ground don't hit the gun out the way, as soon as it clicked he should have just ducked and tackled. Then show a shot of him swinging the axe with a small amount of spray on the wall DON'T try and show him hitting the arm. shot of the injury and EXPRESSION...

  • @flatbadger EXPRESSION of the guy in pain. Then to the gun shot part. Then when he realizes it clicked for him but fired when he shot the sick guy it should've been a shot oh him noticeably looking down at the gun. You want the audience to think what he was which is why did it click then shoot after... It adds the suspense of how close he came to being dead. All info for future short movies.

Other than those two little things ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Amazing.

  • @flatbadger To make my point more clear about just after the fight: You needed a shot of him AND the gun not him just sort of looking down. You need to connect the gun and him nearly dying to the emotions he would be feeling so the audience knows and they can feel it too..... Then of course he hears the baby cry so he looks up slightly and lowers the gun.

  • @flatbadger loved the film man! woulda been cool if there were a clip of an actual atomic bomb... (as i guess it's pretty hard to simulate one :L ) i really enjoyed that man. nice work guys!!!

  • nice work :)) even though I would have been thigh deep in snow at that time of year ;)

  • You should make it mini series dude :) Greetings from Turkey

  • Stunning. Absolutely stunning.

  • I'm not hating guys, it's truly amazing, but he should point the gun at the guy's stomach indtead of at his head, so when he kills him, there's no hole in the mask

  • @EncyclopedicHobo haha. that's a very good point :) maybe he's not too clever. thanks for the comment.

  • Love it! What camera was used?

  • @Skullbird11 Cheers, I used a Sony HDRXR520E.

  • Good job. :)

I saw a film on tele like this when i was little, don't know what it was called, all i can remember is the killer in a gasmask. Been looking for it for years :(

  • What was your inspiration for making this?

  • @Shogun932 I think the majority of my inspiration was from the deserted house. I first discovered it a couple of years ago when I was on a fell walk with my parents. I knew right then that I wanted to make a film involving the building but it wasn't until December 2010 when I revisited the site and filmed some shots, including the one through the window which I developed into the opening nuclear explosion scene, that I decided I wanted to make a post apocalyptic film.

  • @flatbadger Interesting! Thanks for responding!

  • awesome dude and yes i agree the music did go along with then video

  • Looks really professional mate and the music is very hard hitting with the theme of the short film keep up the good work

  • @iamrambu Cheers :) I appreciate the feedback.

  • Its always good to see British film makers deal with this sort of scenario.

  • good but sad when he kills he baby

  • Really well-done stuff, the sort of action-scene-handled fight scene seemed a little amateur (especially the music, it was a little unfitting for such a realistic tone) but the emotional climax really got me, I loved how you brought back that infant crying at the beginning that you kind of forget about at first.

  • 1 person was killed by the bomb

  • If I hadn't seen him carry the baby out instead of killing it, I would have been pissed and not Favorited it haha! Great job on the film!

  • Nice Vid!! I just submitted my Post-Apolcalyptic short into a film festival. I liked your short alot, tell me what you think of mine, it's my first one! ---It's on my page and it's called " Fractured"

  • Comment removed

  • drop by my website lunar.co.uk and drop me an email sometime? We're neighbours!

  • Very nice. Where was your location? Looks like north of England. Good location makes such a difference - I got an old station in Lancashire for my last short film and turned it into war-torn Germany. Looks a million dollars but doesn't cost a bean :)

    Really nice score too.

  • @filmlunar Cheers :) Yeah it was shot in a pennine valley in Cumbria. The house has been abandoned for decades and since I first came across it a couple of years ago I've always wanted to make a film there. We didn't really do anything to the interior apart from spraying blood around. I was all up for shooting a prequel but apparently the house has had work started on it which is a real shame. The score is a mixture of music from audio network and som and a track from 'the road' soundtrack.

  • Why the fuck wanted he to shot his head(with the gas mask on)??

    That would be stupid...

  • Wow! This was good! btw, love the title ^^ Into the valley =)

I know this is stupid, but i've got something very similar, with a little twist. i call it an apocalyptic mindfuck :) be sure to check it out!

  • hey so im currently filming an outbreak movie and i was curious, what mics did u use for this? i know most of the sound is post pro but when ppl talk which mics would u recommend? thanks alot!

  • 2 words: holy.shit.

  • Great short movie. I am Fallout series fan so I love movies like this.

  • dude i just wish this was a full length movie i would watch it like six hundred time this was one of the best home-made films ive seen ever

  • I like this movie really much.

I have the same gasmask. Russian GP5? i got it in grey but black is much better

check my short film: The Ambush

CLICK ON MY NAME TO WATCH

  • This is all really good, exept when he cuts the guys arm the body reaction isn't really convincing, but very good job!

  • @flatbadger

with what cam you have this movie filmed?

  • @TheSilent60 It was shot on a Sony HDR-XR520

  • Wow is all i can say because i dont think you can say anything else.

So well put together. You should do a full length film.

  • @shawny142 Cheers :) Thanks for the comment :) I'm thinking of making a second film. It would be set either before or after this one. It would probably be a similar length. I think a full length film on my very low budget would be hard to do :)

  • @flatbadger If you get a sponsor for this you should be good to go.

  • @shawny142 I dunno about a sponsor. I'm not sure who would sponsor a 19 yr old student but due to all the great feedback I've decided to make another film :) Just started writing some ideas down..so should be good :). appreciate the feedback. Cheers.

  • @flatbadger take the "guerilla" approach, get all your mates together, use all the resources you have at your disposal, and give it lots of effort, plenty of brilliant full length movies have been made this way.

  • love this video so much

  • Omg probably one of the best short films I have seen on YouTube EVER!! this deserves a like and favorite, really one of my favorite videos on YouTube amazing job!!

  • @oklahomabmxer It was a three person crew. I'm a nineteen year old first year university student studying media production. I wrote, produced, directed and shot it. The other two acted in it. The budget was about £80 for the gasmask, gun and blood. It took about 6 hours to shoot overall and a few days to edit. And no one got paid..so...Amateur I guess. :)

  • is this amutearly made or pro's?

  • Glad the baby lived...If you've ever killed a child, whether on accident or in combat, it weighs on you more heavily than all the rest...especially if you have to see your kill close up...Good work though.

  • can we expect a sequel? you could take this SO far if you tried and i think it could be extremely popular with the zombie/horror coummunity. (especially the zombie airsofters, but shhhhhh...)

  • @YouHaveNoSandwich I have thought about making a sequel. I return home in a few days after my second university semester so i might think about doing something. Im not too sure where to take the story.

  • @flatbadger I think that maybe just having a sequel about the character having halucinations or a mental break down, fighting enemies that aren't there and then crying himself to sleep, or something along those lines would work. as long as you keep the gritty kill-or-be-killed feel of it......man you could do some nasty things with that axe....ooh, maybe an origin story of the axe passing from person to person as it is found, stolen, forgotten, found again, etc...

  • @flatbadger really, you could do some HORRIBLE things to people with the axe...

  • Very nice, cant believe its only 550 views.. i enjoyed watching it, make more! and make it longer :)

  • ahaha that was nice

  • That was amazing! :D

  • really awesome :)

  • exelentt!!!!

  • yeah i killed a guy wawawawawawaw OH SHIT

  • I have starred in a short film myself recently and that was pretty creepy! Great work guys!! I like :)

  • only 300 views?

should have at least a couple thousand.

  • @TheDobbleD Thanks. Tell your friends :)

  • @TheDobbleD Its just how youtube is sometimes....forgets the best for crap, hey I'll say it. :)

  • fantastic job, ive sent you a video response with a short i made that is very very similar although you did a much better job! We even had the same elements e.g. person is gas mask enters house and steals tins of food before being acosted by the owner.

  • OUTSTANDING!!! So wonderfully thought out and constructed! Plus... It was post apocalyptic... can't go wrong ha ha.

  • @isaacsace Cheers. Yeah apocalyptic films are usually quite interesting. Thanks for the feedback :)

  • Superb stuff - great piece of the apocalypse - really, really good :)

  • preferred the william howard school panto film!
