  • @Sheldon2point0 - I think he meant that you can actually hear the vocals more prominently than in some recordings.

Not really liking the tambourine on this one, it feels too choppy and dotty, instead of a little more relaxed. Also not really enjoying (being a trumpet player and having played the solo before), how the soloist in this recording changes the rhythm completely instead of just messing with the tempo.

But I love how the horns and woodwinds make themselves known and play their parts

  • im in southwest dekalbs high school symphonic band in decatur ga and were playing this song for a rating i play the french horn and i was shocked at all the horn parts that were in here i hope we can pill it off

  • This piece is great and performed with such intensity! I love it! GO FRENCH HORNS! :D but I must say that the trumpet solo was really, really well done here!

  • muito bom mesmo

  • we played this song last year in our Wind Ensemble! it was GREAT!!! GO FRENCH HORN!!!!!!!

  • This piece was AMAZING to play. I loved singing and playing bowed vibraphone.

  • 1:11-1:15 is my favorite part xD

  • Played this 5 years ago. Good memories.

  • when I got the bari sax part for this song, I about crapped myself! XD I'm used to having the "oompah-oompah" part lol. We've got about another month till we perform. Hope it turns out well...

  • hmmmm i dont recall hearing any bowed vibes in this? there is supposed to be unless i missed hearing it

  • otima execução

  • the fact that the band is singing the choral part is pretty amazing.

  • @bicbriteliner

Most bands do when they play this song.

  • i have just revieved this song for our senior band an i have to play the french horn for this piece dose anyone have any pointers for me?

  • ya i no love it.

  • You guys didn't do "Paradiso?"

  • No, we only recorded the first 3 movements.

  • That's too bad, I would have loved to hear the last movement.

  • The brass section did very well, minus a few higher note jumps. The woodwinds were not as great. If you can't nail those runs it just sounds like a big mess. Plus the camera keeps jumping around and a nauseating speed! Great piece though!

  • talk about nauseating. . .

  • this is a great piece, but i almost cried laughing at 04:06 when i saw that guy's face

  • LMFAO

  • My high school band is playing this for our spring concert. We sound a lot like this band.

  • Where is your band? Not to ask personal questions, but my band is, too. Just give me a State or something so I know whether we're in the same band by some chance.

  • Georgia

  • I played this in 1994 at USF's Festival of Winds under Anthony Maiello, the man who commissioned the piece. He was the most amazing conductor I ever played under.

  • 4:25 also sounds like Star Trek.

  • 1:45 sounds like Jumanji or something. I don't understand how that is considered rising to heaven. I like the theme this one and paradiso have, and the singing in all of them (exception is inferno)

  • I had the privilege of playing the trumpet solos on this piece last year. This is definitely one of my favorite pieces that I've ever performed. And it was just plain cool to be antiphonal :)

  • We played this picec during my sophomore year in HS and then we did the inferno my senior year. I played timpani on both pieces. I was actually offered a spot in our regional symphony orchestra because of the inferno, but I joined the army instead

  • There are 4 movements to this symphony domi.

  • Great job! This is my favorite band composition by Smith.

  • Paradiso is missing

  • I played this song my sophomore year of high school. I loved playing the trumpet part in this song. I remember playing the lower part of the duet. I just loved the hopefulness this section had after playing Inferno and Purgatory.

  • omg im a high school sophomore and im playing this now!

  • Haha, no way! Me too!

    I'm a flutist

  • broadway, is yur director mrs.wiebner?

  • A lot of schools seem to be doing this song. I'm a high school senior playing the trumpet part of this this year. ( I have no Idea who Mrs. Wiebner is either, In case you were wondering.)

  • Absolutely outstanding performance on all three songs of 'The Divine Comedy'. Kudos
