I don't know if it's just me but I think this Gaffer tape thing is like a Singaporean "phenomenon". I don't see videos of people from other parts of the world with gaffer tapes on their cameras because they're worried of scratches. Same applies to people who refuse to remove the clear plastic from an electronic device. Being local myself, I know many people practice gaffer taping for "protection" but it just looks horrid no? oh well, To each their own. :) Just my opinion. :)
@eSQuiR3 hey i agree this seems to be singaporean. anyway this isn't my lens, it was a rented lens. i don't gaffer any of my equipment, i simply take good care of them and use them carefully.
@ianhyk yeah... no worries, I was just commenting on the habit. I've read other replies you made mentioning it was rented. It's just the Singaporean mindset. It's horrible. oh well. Been contemplating a purchase between the 17-55mm and the 24-70mm. Happy shooting
Hi. I have got this same lense, have bought it new abour a year ago or so.
I noticed that there is a slight residual noise of sorts when I focus this lens that keeps going about a couple of seconds after focus. You need to listen to it in silence or close to your ear. I wonder if this is normal??
I find this rather weird. anyone here can confirm this please?
1) my favourite photos are landscape and portraits, I have this lense ( 17-55mm 2.8) do you think i also should also get the 50mm 1.8?
2) is the 10-22mm a good wideangle lense, im currently looking for a wide angle lense and was thinking to get that one.
3) for wild life park shooting, what would you recommend for a telephoto lense? I need one so Im looking for adivce, I almost got the 17-200mm f/4 but maybe the focal length might not be enough. what do you recommend?
1) 17-55 should do okay for portraits but the 1.8 will give you shallower DOF and since its cheap why not
2) yup get the 10-22, can recommend without reservation.
3) 70-200 you mean? If you're on Full frame, that's not going to be enough.. on crop, it might be barely enough. can consider the canon 100-400mm or the 300f4 L
I tested this lens yesterday, the focus is extremely quick and precise even in low light which is amazing! Down on built quality though, why can't they make it as tough as the L series lenses?!
I think for outdoors with good light, f4 is sufficient. What might not be sufficient is the focal length.. 200mm may be short, and you might wanna consider a 1.4x teleconverter.
Good review. I've decided on buying this lens for indoor use, and the 70-200 f/4, since it's cheaper than the 2.8 version, and I only intend to use it outdoors. Do you think f/4 would be sufficient for "hunting" wildlife?
Btw, your English is good, so speak with more assurance!

@eSQuiR3
i agree, gaffer tapes are more obvious than scratches. True to that.

Yes Y not, the 50mm 1.8 should always be apart of any photographers lens pack.
Plus its not like there expensive. and believe me ur going to be in situations where 2.8 is not enough. Get It i say.

I'll be using it on a 1.6 body, wouldn't 320mm be sufficient? What other lens would you recommend.
