This series reminds me of the days of street racing in the philippines in the 80's! Everybody drove reckless then, there were no rules. We would actually race during traffic, on the highways and small sidestreets, sometimes during typhoons. We suped up our cars and just took off. Almost everybody raced. I raced every day for four years and never lost.

@LEMON3705 have you not learned anything from watching the series??? takumi wrecked shop on hundreds of drivers who had better more expensive cars then he did. bunta is a well seasoned racer and takumi is still in the learning stages albeit he's crazy gifted. bunta beat him with skill alone.

something i tell ppl all the time a real race involves turns. a straightaway only proves who has the bigger engine.

@LEMON3705 yes but tak's car is nowhere near the bad car category. the AE86 has near perfect weight ratio as well a well balanced chasis and body. on top of that his 86 has a racing engine and top of the line suspension. his car is by no means a bad car. even so you could hardly call his previous opponents bad drivers and he still took most of them to town

One of my favorite scenes in the show. He should've suspected that it was his father, since the impreza did the same technique he uses to win against faster cars at the corners. Even though a racing engine was placed in the 86, it still isn't the fastest in a straightway. I think that the new engine gave the 86 around 250 HP, while Bunta told his friend at the gas station that the Impreza had around 350 HP.

That engine was rated at over 250 bhp at 11,000 RPM. They also had a formula Atlantic engine that was a 16V that produced 240 bhp at 9,000 RPM (^_^)

I also own a Impreza and over heren in the Netherlands it's called a GT turbo, but i nde rest of the world it was called the WRX, even being the old GC8 chassis.

the 22B is also from the GC8 ''family'', but 2 door and wider then an average 2 or 4 door GC8.

The WRX name was adopted in the western part of europe sinds they introduced the MY'01 model impreza.

IMO he overtook so easily on the straight because he had a faster exit speed than takumi at the final corner using the same exit-oriented gutter run technique so i'd say his technique is prob more refined (though it is possible that 4WDs might perform better at the gutter run than RWDs)

the sti is an amazing macine theres no doubt about it. in the ralley its got pretty much everything covered but, u gotta look at what AMS tuning is doing with their evo. theyre beating open wheel car track records!! thats just insane. the 4g63 is possibly the best factory 4 cylinder ever made. both good street cars. i have friend with both and theyre both amazing cars.
