All religious symbols and rituals need to be banned from schools, and RE should be amalgamated with history as a subject. There are not "many" parts of France where the police don't patrol but there are some Parisian suburbs where it is the case. Everything I hear about England makes me feel it's a hundred times worse than France.
@FedupwithR You probably hear about most of the worst cases. It is difficult to get a true impression of what the worst bits of one country are like compared to the worse bits of another. Those who live in the worst areas don't travel abroad and so can't compare. France has more Muslims and probably larger all-Muslim areas, but Britain has more assertive and demonstrative Muslims. France also probably has more violent crime associated with Muslims.
French Muslims have been here a long time and are well integrated. It's only in recent years that problems have arisen due to radical Islam and the lack of jobs for the young. Without been able to compare crime figures one is just left with impressions. We have never had demonstrations of angry Muslims waving hateful, anti French slogans the like of which we see in Britain.
They should be told to assimilate or leave - mosques should be limited and where too many exist should be turned to rubble. Civilised ppl need to take back their country and re embrace its Religion and culture now!

I live in Northern Ireland and I’d like to say as someone how is just old enough to remember the bad old days that time has been the healer. The longer we live with each other the better things get. Now the vast majority of the population doesn’t care what religion you are. We still have our views on a united Ireland but we don’t kill each other over them any more (mostly). Radical steps just make the problem worse and I honestly don’t think Muslims or out to take your freedom.

Here's a funny story for you. Hindus living in new york city, missing their ability to seek divine attention from the ganges, has started to treat Jamaica bay, as the new ganges. I think the thrust of your argument is correct. You want England to remain English. But the threat can be anybody, muslims, hindus, jews or christians. You don't want any of these groups to be a privileged minority with sensitivities to be 'respected.' Personally, I don't want to live under christians, hindus, muslims or jews. I want to live under the protection of the anglo-american-canadian legal system.
You're wrong about your ideas of muslims in india. Muslims in india are indigenous, and not immigrants. They are the descendants of converts to Islam hundreds of years ago, who probably converted because arabs came and said they didn't have to suffer under the caste system. Muslims in India enjoy no privileges, political or otherwise. They are second class citizens, just like Hindus in Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Then they started ruling little villages, and probably forced conversion on the locals. Point is, the muslim population in india is local. In many instances, they are considered converts from the lowest caste and therefore 'untouchables.'

I'm sure you have a depth of Indian history that I do not possess, so I won't argue with you. All I know is that my family is from the subcontinent. They're muslim. They've been living there for hundreds of years and not immigrants. My ethnicity is South Asian. There is no Arab blood in my family (thank goodness). I was born a muslim.

@NotForHire42 The difference is the NHS, Americans have to pay for their dentistry in full, which they can't afford, so they have insurance, and as we all know once private insurance starts only perfection becomes acceptable to somebody who has paid their premiums (or had their employer pay their premiums).
In contrast the NHS says if work is cosmetic and not clinically necessary you have to pay for it yourself, so we don't bother and we get used to seeing people with normal human teeth.

We need to abolish 'faith' schools and the notion that children automatically belong to the religions of their parents. All religious symbols and rituals need to be banned from schools, and RE should be amalgamated with history as a subject. Religions should be taught in the context of what people believed in the past, not differentiated from other old mythologies just because they happened to survive. There is still a monarchy but we don't have monarchism lessons!

Those who live in the worst areas don't travel abroad and so can't compare. France has more Muslims and probably larger all-Muslim areas, but Britain has more assertive and demonstrative Muslims. France also probably has more violent crime associated with Muslims.

Now the vast majority of the population doesn’t care what religion you are. We still have our views on a united Ireland but we don’t kill each other over them any more (mostly). You're wrong about your ideas of muslims in india. Muslims in india are indigenous, and not immigrants. They are the descendants of converts to Islam hundreds of years ago, who probably converted because arabs came and said they didn't have to suffer under the caste system. Muslims in India enjoy no privileges, political or otherwise. They are second class citizens, just like Hindus in Pakistan or Bangladesh.

That stuff about women is almost certainly Muslim propaganda. The US had blacks in congress prior to the civil rights era. Blacks had no rights. Israel has Muslims in the Knesset. Muslims have no rights. The last two prime ministers of Bangladesh were women. You may be tempted to believe that women over there are more than equal. Not true.

If they knew all the BS that's in the Koran, they wouldn't stand for it and a "protestant revolution" would ensue. Take for instance the prophet's picture. Nowhere does it say you can't draw his picture. He didn't want his picture or statue to be worshipped and so said, no "likeness" of me, please. It's not in the Koran. But Muslims get crazy because these Imams are not put in jail.

If any random Imam at a random mosque deviates from the the "Mosque of England," they will be defrocked, and put in jail. Every mosque has to operate under the auspices of the "Mosque of England." If the "Mosque of England" does not say "Death to Geert Wilders," no Imam can say it. This is the other problem with Islam. There's no central political body that has think about how to get along.

@MartinJWillett I am against all religion. I find nobility in no religion. If you look at the religions carefully, Islam is not any worse. The problem with Islam is that it has religious law and that there has been no Martin Luther in the religion, so it still lives in 700AD. Other than that muslims are not any worse or better than any other religion, let alone hindus. "You can't shame" any religious person into treating you fairly, not just muslims. Anyway, gotta go. Eventually you did say that "you" would not do it and it was "wrong", but not before trying to avoid saying so.

@MsReefmaster Just for semantics, the difference between american and british dentistry is uniformity and colour. Americans see clean teeth as being cleaned and looked after by a dentist, uniform, and bleached 'whiter than white', British see clean teeth as just been cleaned and looked after by a dentist only, anything more is just cosmetic frivolities and not really needed. Like straightening an eye if you have a squint.

@NotForHire42 The difference is the NHS, Americans have to pay for their dentistry in full, which they can't afford, so they have insurance, and as we all know once private insurance starts only perfection becomes acceptable to somebody who has paid their premiums (or had their employer pay their premiums).
In contrast the NHS says if work is cosmetic and not clinically necessary you have to pay for it yourself, so we don't bother and we get used to seeing people with normal human teeth.
