I have seen his picture. He looks white. His lawyer, the victim and many others have described him as such.

One of the others did say that Smith participated in groping the girl but more importantly he played the key role in luring and manipulating her. His role was pivotal and her phone was found in his room. It was used to taunt her father after the rapes began and there is a great deal that indicates he deserves what is coming to him and I agree, he will get it.

There are much deeper issues here than just racial hate though it was certainly in the hearts of at least some that raped, assaulted her or cheered it on. When people were spreading word of the gang rape they identified her as a "white girl" and encouraged people to go participate. This was how the people that called 911 found out about it. It should also be pointed out that they are not white, nor are the majority that expressed outraged at how she was so viciously assaulted and violated.

There could have been underlying politics in the community and even planning to make the whole thing with everyone present a very pre-meditated crime.

The girl was lured to the secluded area by someone who pretended to be her friend and she trusted and felt safe with him. There are many indications she was targeted for this well in advance.

It was a 20 year old named Ortega that started the rape and assault that Smith did not participate in.
