"There was never any evidence that cars were hit by rocks on that day," said Garry Connolly, the chairman of the race organising committee.

People should learn how to spell properly before posting their anti-rally comments. You sound like the numb-tounged rednecks you truly are. The people of the Tweed oppose many, many of the unsustainable developments proposed. The rally is but one of them The Greenies are the voice of the trees and animals, it does not matter if they are a minority, they speak for those who can't They will save what they can of this world for the next generation But yeah, they probably should get their cars tuned

wonder what kind of job you have fisty?with such a broad range of vocabulary.you do nothing at all to make us ,the residents want to ever consider hosting your sporting event.
They think the rally's going poison the area, well the council should go and have a look at these people's houses and see what conditions they are in. Insufficient sewage systems, old reck cars laying around leaching into the ground, rubbish just dumped into the bush land. The list just goes on !!!
I find it a complete embarrassment that these people are protesting about something that is a complete blessing, and the area is very lucky to host such a great event.
< I agree! The few against the rally obviously have a second agenda, they have struggled to make one argument backed up with actual facts. Maybe the council should start looking at some of the residents dwellings, and see if they have submitted development applications? And take a look at their impact on the environment.
And they could follow up with more random inspections on their cars, the oil leaking smoke blowing bombs!
you have no idea about the facts, and you have no idea about the state of their homes.People like you would never be invited into our homes, which is what keeps them special.get a real job
These people can protest about the WRC coming to the tweed, but they can't protest about highways being build though forests, the destruction on costal areas, and developments etc.
These people don't have a leg to stand on.
They say the rally will kill Koala's...o.k I've lived in the tweed valley for pretty much all my life, and I have never seen a Koala,(and I am often out in the bush adventuring).
Rally is a beautiful event and bring money to the valley. People maybe must to think to improve their busineses because almost 50,000 people will go to see the action and propably them will need to buy many things. So improve your marketing and make merchandising
Good onya people of the Tweed and Kyogle shires: WE elected our councils to make sensible decisions on our behalf and it's an absolute outrage to see the State donate money to a private enterprise to host andenvironmentally damaging event when our local hospitals can't even afford to pay the baker!! Underfunding North Coast Area Health by $8 million and giving RRA an undisclosed amount (in WA around $6 million per event) makes me feel sick.
In 2007, international tourists spent a whopping $1.8 BILLION dollars in Australia. That's $1,800,000,000. The socioeconomic report says Tweed AND Kyogle together should make $11 million. In fact, two-thirds of the money will be spent in places other than the Tweed adn Kyogle. We are much better off targeting ecotourists than encouraging gas-guzzling revheads. Instead of protecting the natural attributes of our unique region, we are killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
Mind you, the Rally organisers are trading on the very beautiful natural surrounds and values which they will be damaging. It's the same sort of greedy grabs that greedy businesses go for everywhere. Where I live there used to be a thriving Koala colony. Now Real Estate agents are offering rewards for anyone who can confirm the sighting of a Koala in the area. Why? So they can rip up more trees and build houses to sell - all on the back of the environment they've destroyed.
And how exactly are they damaging the environment? Did you drive the local roads after last weekends rally? I did, and I did not see a single road kill or damage to the road. Stop using this event as a stage for your own agenda.
I didnt hear a single complaint from last weekends rally, guess its only a problem if it comes by your house.
So did you build a house or do you live in a tent? What makes it ok for you to build and no on else? All this crap about koalas and dressing up as animals for you protests is laughable.
More animals would be harmed by the local traffic, ever noticed that animals are usually hit at dawn and dusk? Not in the middle of the day.
The Northern Rivers shires of Tweed and Kyogle are already on the map as spectacularly beautiful Rain Forest regions abounding in naturtal flora and fauna. As shires promoting themselves as a sea change and tree change environments why sully the image with a dirty rally?
The smart money would be on the preservation of an environmentally clean image for Tweed and Kyogle shires to generate smarter wealth. Its the economy stupid.
Shame on the NSW Government !! Creating a special legislation to approve this inappropriately located rally. Listening to and responding to, a request from such a despicable person as the head of FIA, ahead of a large majority of local residents , who do not want this rally for the next 20 years.
With excessive amounts of rain in the Green Cauldron, local community dirt roads, NEED to be sealed, so the masses of people living and visiting, don't have to navigate wall to wall pot-holes. .
If there are potholes there now, what do you think will happen after a couple of years to a tar road? The ground will sink under them, the same as it does now, and you will end up with a tar road even rougher than the dirt one you have now. The only difference will be that the road will cost a lot more to maintain and it can't simple be regraded.
Oh i just went to the link of these clowns, dangerous driving will increase placing local people and wildlife at risk. As if the WRC are really going to indanger life of residence, you people have to much time on your hands. What about the rights of the motorsport enjoying public of this area ? What rights do they get ? You may think your doing the right thing, but maybe, just maybe if you listened to the WRC proposal, they would answer some questions.
These people really get up my nose, tree hugging hippies. I pay my taxes just like the rest of these idiots, get a life, you dangleberries, greenies will kill this country

Australians should be outraged to see Australia's Green Cauldron used as a giant speedtrack for the Repco Car Rally. The Tweed Valley has been named as one of only 8 National Icons, along with the likes of Kakadu and the Wilderness Coast. We wouldn't tolerate a speeding boat race down the Alligator River in Kakadu, and nor should racing cars be tolerated in a biodiverse hotspot. SHAME ON TWEED COUNCIL and EVENTS NSW.
Most of the rally stages in Kyogle contain areas of Core Koala Habitat, a shameful choice by Repco Rally Australia and Events NSW when options for both the rally and the koalas are considered. The fact that our koalas are in trouble, the wild population is in decline and they are in desperate need of help and protection is widely recognised and publicised by experts. Help protect our koalas and say No to Repco Rally Australia!
When a kangaroo was killed in The Rally of Canberra a fews ago, most of the teams and officials thought it quite amusing. Very sad. Keep up the good fight, Our animals need you.
How many kangaroos get hit every day on the Pacific or New England highways? I can only remember about 2 or 3 being killed in rallying accidents. I don't hear you people whinging about fishing or hunting, I'm sure they kill more animals than us?
Also, what do these sports all have in common? They all want our natural habitats and animal populations to flourish! We don't want to needlessly destroy these things, especially when our hobbies rely on them! (I'm not a fan of hunting, for the record)
Rock on Australia-!!!! It's about time we stood up to be *counted* and listened to and create a roar of protest. Corrupt government officials sleeping with developers and other nefarious industries will kill this amazing and fragile land a buck unless we all create a roar than cannot be stopped.
