  • I know where one is exactly like this thats been sitting in a barn for 30 years. completely rust free. Looked up the vin. It used to look exactly like this one. EXACTLY! From the paint job all the way to the wheels and hubcaps. its now painted a primor gray, but you can see where it was red at one time. It has the 260 V8, and the top has been cut off of it. But its definately worth saving! Contact me if interested

  • @vwbusssesareforever Hey, Brandon! I appreciate the tip...I'm not in the market for another car, but hopefully one of my viewers will see the comment and get in contact with you. It would be nice to see that car brought back to life! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 cool. yeah, I did some research on it, and though the vin says its a '66, the owner says its a '67. He said it was his brothers car, and that he got it back in the 70s, and its been sitting in the warehouse he has for almost 30 years. He last had it running in 2001. He said it was running warm for some reason. I'll try and make a video of it if I happen to get back to the place its.at. Its almost always locked up, and I cant usually get in there.

  • @vwbusssesareforever Hey, Brandon! Before I actually purchased a vintage car, I was looking into these Sunbeam Tigers, joining a local owner's group. One of the things I heard was the tendency of the engine to overheat...no doubt because the original engine compartment was not designed for this transplanted Ford engine..I think an auxiliary electric fan can clear up those problems. Good luck! Thanks! :) Jack

  • My dad used to own one of these cars there small but mighty

  • @reyn1234reyn That's a great memory of this car...glad your dad had one! Thanks! :) Jack

  • me and my friend put one of these in the local enduro in our state. piece of shit only lasted 50 laps.

  • @snower5554 Sorry to hear that...British motor products had some really bad problems, and eventually led to their demise. On the other hand, some lasted fairly long and are still with us. I think it's that variability that makes us uneasy with even thinking about restoring one. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Thanks so much for the memories.....in the 60's my friend owned one with a modified 260 V8. With little(hard) 13 inch wheels on the back and a 2.88 rear end this car would make more smoke than a top fuel dragster.

With the V8 in such a small car the whole body would shake

Number 8 spark plug had to be taken out from inside the car...with a hole in the firewall

    doug p

    Canada

  • @terryford18 Hey, Terry! Glad I could help out with the memories! I also heard they tended to have cooling problems ...ah the teething problems of adapting a car to a new powerplant! Thanks! :) Jack

  • nice Tiger, i always thought these had the look of a '55 Tunderbird, and i bet they can go pretty good considering there light weight, also note Carrol Shelby helped them shoe horn this 260 Ford V8 into these cars, but of course Shelby was smart and didn't give away all the secrets, as he didn't want any competition for his Cobra's

  • @BRENTHENRY1989 Hey, Brent! Yeah, I don't know who copied whom! It's what this little car needed to be a real performance car. Check what terryford18 has said..such performance was not without concessions..the car designed for a 4 has trouble making the transition to an 8. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Very nice.

  • @knifipu Hey, Jack! Very nice indeed! Thanks! :) Jack

  • The sign said $45K or best offer. So Jack, what was your best offer? These cars were derived from the Sunbeam Alpine and even though they were pleasant cruisers they just lacked grunt. Rootes asked Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles to fit the little Windsor in an Alpine and of course the rest is history. With this little V8 it totally changed the character of the car and it became a TIGER. Chrysler said their 273 wouldn't fit so it was dropped.

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! I know i would not give that kind of money for it...it's a nice car, with an interesting history. At one time I considered buying one, before the value was so high. I heard that there can be a problem with engine cooling with the radiator that was supplied. Thanks! :) Jack

  • @cheddyrod No grunt? bull hocky. Options included a 245 bhp motor with gobs of low end torque

and a range of gear ratios from 2:88 up to 4:57 or so.

  • @nocaloola Yes, the 1600 cc Alpine lacked grunt. Now what is this about bull hocky?

  • @cheddyrod "Lacked Grunt"? hahahahaha. Understatement of the decade. 1600cc baby engines are pitiful. They're OK for Grandma. They are OK for racing against 50cc motorbikes, but when a short-stroke V8 comes on the scene, step the F back.

  • Wasnt this the car from "Get Smartt"? Love it!

  • @1DRock37167 Hey, Daryl! I hadn't thought about that for a long time...and I think you are right! I always remember him talking into his shoe..nothing to attract attention, of course! :D Thanks! :D Jack
