Hi there, Ben, KØBLR here...I have a question. How does one aquire P25 gear could be used for P25 ops. I guess I like the DSTAR because a lot of the stuff is there can be had ver P25 in my opinion that one rreally has to hunt around where to find it? Please feel free to tell me I am wrong.
I have listened to far better P25 from radios being used next to Firetrucks, even right next to the pumps, that has to be the worst P25 I have ever heard. X<
Yes the Astro Saber uses the IMBE vocoder. The Astro Saber has been around for over 10 years. P25 with AMBE+2 would be phase II. I do have access to a Mototrbo radio that uses AMBE+2... perhaps I can make some recordings of that.
@kb9mwr hi mate , if U culd help me to anderstand beter " if I have 1 pair of motorola Digital radios and 1 pair of motorola Annalog radios , both pairs of radios Maximum Output 5 W , in strait line of sight which one will have longest distance of TX , will it be litle diference or big diference , please let me know cos Im iterested to buy a pair but Im not shure which one to pick ,,,, THANK YOU ,,,,
I think the Motorola handheld you're using has the IMBE vocoder, do you know? The AMBE+2 vocoder has noticeable noise suppression... I'd be interested in seeing a comparison between D-STAR, P25 w/ IMBE, and P25 w/AMBE+2. KE7NWL
AMBE has never been known for its voice quality.

It would have been interesting to have heard an analogue comparison as well.

Yes. DeathStar is such a dead end! :( P25 is the best option until codec2 is adopted by the ham comunity. .-.-.
