  • i respect a tribute or cover to Dire Straits over any original song by any idiot on the top 40 right now, like turn the radio on now. yep, anything related to Dire Straits is never never a waste of time. a waste of time is covering an auto tne song.

  • whatever, it sux in comparison but THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY PAYING SOME SORT OF TRIBUTE ( OR TRYING) TO THE BEST BAND EVER- AND THE BEST GUITARIST EVER= DIRE STRAITS. I would listen to all of Dire Straits in a VW bus if my dad had one, duh.

  • *could be introducted to them." Basically he is saying i doubt we will do the song justice, but maybe if some of the younger generation listen to our version then that will introduce them to the greatness of dire straits. As for the weather he is just commenting on the bands skill, there ability to ignore there drab surroundings and write songs like this one.

  • @Gez97 mate your in the wrong here id just give up now if I were you, when SuperAmik said brilliance he was talking about the origional dire straits song. Also if you watched the introduction to this video he says and I quote "Romeo and Julet, I think is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I don't know if that's a reason to cover it, because we probably wont do it justice, one of the reasons I guess is mabye a person who is a fan of the killers who doesnt know about dire straits.

  • Comeback when the killers are as good as the Straits then maybe you can argue the toss, until then unlucky. Nothing wrong with the grammer chump! and dont worry no-one will copy The Killers coz theyre shite compared to Knopfler one of the greatest guitarists of all time FACT and its embarrassing so see a great song put to shame

  • This version sucks, should be no such thing as a cover, do your own stuff if your good enough. Brilliance?? i dont think so, theres never any brilliance in a copy

  • @Gez97 OK, whatever you say, you grammatically challenged dipshit. Also, cover and copy - you might want to learn the difference.

  • Pathetic that you think that Dire Straits dont sound like they come from England, typical yank ignorance and classics should never be covered, stick to your own pathetc music if you thinks its worth it

  • @Gez97 Take a deep breath and relax there, junior. Clearly you missed the obvious fact that The Killlers were paying deep respect to Dire Straits, Mark, and the song's brilliance. Brandon's point about the song not sounding like it was from England was a compliment, dumbass. England has shit weather, does it not? He's saying this song transcends it. For the record, I'm a huge Dire Straits fan and a passing admirer of The Killers. Yet, I find this cover excellent. Get a grip, twat-boy.

  • crazy mormon

  • great cover.

  • Yup... No Comparision to MK and the Style O.... But it beats the living hell out of the Indigo Girls lame attempt!

  • Well, im 24, and i love Mark Knopfler, and i love Brandon Flowers ! and this just works for me !!!! End of !!!

  • song* xx

  • the original is my fav son ever.. but this is def amazing n does it justice <3

  • respect to killers for respecting dire straits and mark knopfler. the cover was great but it simply doesnt beat dire straits. Dire Straits live performances are wayyy better than their recorded song! so give respect to them and little bit of time to watch them. but im glad they covored it, brings back the real music and dire straits :).

  • He does have a valid point. Covering older musicians stuff would get the younger audiences familiar with their work.

I thought they did the song justice; and appreciate the beautiful tribute.

  • Exactly how I got into Dire Straits

  • I always enjoy cover versions. They remind me of what I like about the original and sometimes offer nice surprises. If you don't like cover versions, don't click on them to listen. Brandon and the boys handled this with sincerity and respect. They may have been performing on film at Abbey Road but how different is this from you singing a favorite song in the shower with a scrub brush for a microphone? When people love music, they express themselves through it, whether they wrote the song or not.

  • I prefer the original...but The Killers do it justice!

"...the dice was loaded from the start..."

  • This is fucking awsome... :'-) Maybe better than Dire Straits' version..

  • He was playing the piano and then he was stading up singing?! XD wtf! (i just realized that)

  • @kvg4541 watch closer... its another person playing piano

  • @kirkyraucous Wow, you are right! Thanks!

  • I hate the vocals, although instrumentaly it's sound (pun intended).

  • sorry, originals are always better, becuase its like the roots, ya know? but i really do love this :)

  • Already know Mark Knopfler, Brandon, love him, and I love you too Brandon xxxx

  • The Killers is a good band and they do a nice cover of this song, I'll give them that. Is this verion BETTER than the original? My answer is a big fat NO. Not by any stretch of the imagination, in my opinion.:-)

A friendly suggestion, may I? Seach for live versions of this song, watch them, they are even better than the original. Dire Straits seriouly know how to give audiences their best performances!

  • nice fig

  • o they did it justice all right. :)

  • the backing music is so bad. Flowers does a good job of making this his own, never going to really compete with the original tho.

  • so cool they give tribute to DS, excellent version just love it, some people would never know it was Killers

  • I like the original still - it had a pureness to it. It was simple. This one adds a few more elements into that in comparison takes away from the words the simple guitar in the back. He sings it a little differently too. Its good but not better.

  • I love My Name is Earl there :D

  • Great job :)

  • oh it's nothing compared tho royal wood's "Juliet"....

  • ya all wanna hear the best version and the craziest guitar playing - check out Montey Montgomerys version - bet ya can't listen to it just once.

  • earl hickey?

  • It's nice in England in Midsummer. It doesn't get dark until 11pm.

  • the best cover for this song out there

  • the clouds of England

  • nice that you're trying to introduce the newer generation to these "golden oldies" i love the dire straits myself

  • Great song poor cover version

  • This is in my top 5 love songs of all time. I cryed the first time I heard it.

  • It's probably impossible to match the guitar work, pacing and dynamics of the original by Dire Straits but the vocals here are really interesting and a fresh take. Great cover.

  • It's probably impossible to due the original guitar work, pacing and dynamics of the original by Dire Straits but the vocals here are really interesting and a fresh take. Great cover.

  • MY NAME IS EARL...........WHATS YOURS??????

  • this song is so beautiful.

  • drummer looks the double of Earl Hicky lmao

  • Good effort - got to respect The Killers

  • dave keunings my idol. writes great, awesome (and i mean this word in it's actual meaning not in the overused way like "DUDE, AWESOME!" songs, and is an overall lad, especially when drunk.

  • Look how fucking passionate these guys are.

  • Buena versión pero no hay duda: La original de Dire Straits es insuperable.

  • better than the original

  • @MarCuSTr33 It is good, but original is way better, becouse Mark is genius :D

  • @MemeNatorius sorry going to have disagree but its good that everyone has there own opinion, the killers for life.

  • Clearly a homage -- like they said. Nothing wrong with that.

  • man i miss the killers

  • WHO CAN DISLIKE THIS? :O

  • THE SONG REALY START AL MINUTE 1:00 IT'S A VERY GOOD SONG Good quality from the video

  • this is a cover of who?

  • @yezzey3 Dire straits :) you should hear the live version, I can assure you, it's one awesome song ^^

  • I was really expecting the Killers to do something new with the song and make it somewhat their own but this was a huge disappointment. Playing it straight out as it was written only highlights how bad Brandon Flowers' voice is, compared to Mark Knoffler. If they had changed it enough to accommodate how BF usually sings it could have been really cool and new and still inspired younger audiences to seek out the original. They aren't doing anyone justice here.

  • @leahjuly The fact that most people disagree with you says something, doesn't it? Perhaps your opinion isn't so almighty.

  • I never noticed that Earl Hickey's in The killers before now.

  • through the bars of Orion

  • thousands of people could cover this song flawlessly, but not one could write

a song anywhere near as good, the "IDOL" Generation put to much emphasis on

how perfect something is sung when they couldnt write a song to save thier lives...

  • How VERY dare they....??????

They're not fit to lace MK's shoes.

  • @trackdaybob look man, I am a big fan of MK, but they pay tribute to this great artist. They actually did a great job. They are all clearly inspired by the great MK and you need to respect them as they covered a beautiful song and actually covered it well

  • Made my cry . Especially at @4:12

  • ah Romeo I use 2 have a scene with him, still an awesome song,,,

  • i like the fact that at least brandon references the song's origins, but why diss england and say he can't believe dire straits were from there!!! think that 'little' island has produced some good bands over the years don't you!!!!

and much as i like brandon (and the killers) , mark knopfler has got a 'man's' voice and that's what this song needs

  • 1981..on a beach in Rimini Italy..I first heard this song..I had no clue who did the song..It was on a loop..I waited and hear dit twice but no name was given...so I went to a record shop and started with the 'A's" and when I got to D ..I found Dire Straits..!

I bought everything they had and have loved them ever since..

  • The song says Australia? I don't think so..

  • @zoologistoyourbee ...Australia..? Nah not to me..to me it says "back when you were young" and lived life to the absolute fullest..no worries..no bills..no nothing but me and the wind at my back.. That's what it says to me and when i here it..I can for a moment go back there and remember..! :)

  • @EWETUBER2 It says.. that everybody been there. On that hopeless serenade.

  • This is my favorite song of theirs.

  • @EthnicCleansingBag actually i guess is dire straits song.

  • brandon looks really sad after the song :/

  • original was dire straits and that was the best but killers have done an absolutely grand job of covering they are stars x

  • 19 , dave yawning haha

  • a guy just dedicated this song to me.... :D

  • the best of Romeo and Juliet

  • This is a beautiful song!!

  • 1:58 yea that's a good view :P

  • Is it bad that this song sounds like it could be about me? I definitely can relate it to my life, hm.

  • I like how he actually interprets Knopflers voice.. in his own fashion though. I love both!

    ~Nout

  • Brandon Flowers, I love you.

  • I Sang This Song To My Girlfriend... She Loved It! Cause She Never Heard It Before, So, She Thinks I Made-Up That Song For Her... Thanks Killers!!! :)

  • @ExsNOhhhs You should thank Mark Knopfler as he's the original writer of this song!

  • Not bad. Usually I don't like covers... but I have to admit that this cover fails to evoke the kind of feeling like the original by Dire Straits

  • i love this song I heard it once for like 2 seconds on the movie Empire Records and have loved it ever since. I like this version but I like the original better. Great song no matter who sings it though.

  • OMG ITS JASON LEE!!1!!111

  • Don't like it nearly as much as the original, but it still gave me goosebumps. He kinda sounds like a goat.. That's my problem with this cover.

  • Is Earl!! LoL!!!

  • Really a nice effort on a great song.

  • someday , will time be right ...

  • @U2Ela The two greatest and most passionet lovers in all of the discworlds history where by, a strange twist of fate, born thousands of years apart.

  • Wonderful, Dare I say it as good as the original

  • " I'm amazed their from England " .................. Yeh Brandon Flowers & the Killers their from ENGLAND and they will rock on in our hearts long after you are gone and forgotten

  • Comment removed

  • @mim22070 The Killers's cover was better than the original.

    Problem? o.Ò

  • @mim22070. you're an idiot.

  • @mim22070 No reason to get upset, what he ment is if you listened is that the songs sound like they are from the deserts of australia, not from the clouds of england. Listen before you judge.

  • love the original, love this cover.

dire straits and the killers ftw.

  • this is so good, great filming, too

  • @Gibnah97 lol i'm guessing it was a girl filming because well... 1:58

  • 84 people will never truly enjoy life.

  • Please can people stop making comments about the 'X' number of people who dislike 'X' Youtube video. It's not clever, it's not meaningful, it's not funny, and most importantly, it's become really annoying.

  • @DavieC87 11 People liked your comment.

  • @Lewis31A Haha that's pretty funny.

  • @DavieC87 naaaa

  • @DavieC87 27 people are you tube comment meta-trendsetters

  • @DavieC87 well,sometimes it is funny

  • @DavieC87 You should probably have different notation: X & Y to avoid confusion between the number of people and the Youtube video. Algebraic naivety aside, the point you make is rather pertinent. It is unoriginal above all else.

  • @TJsalami I posted the original comment, but this is a new account of mine.

Just so you know, I am not algebraically naive, I just wasn't using algebraic notation. In my line of work (and I assumed generally) 'X' means 'fill in the blank'. When using figures and tables everything is labelled as 'Fig./Table X' until the report is complete. As far as I can see you are the only person who spotted the potential for confusion.

  • @TJsalami As for the lack of originality of my post, I agree. I hadn't seen such a comment before I posted it, but I should have realised it was inevitable. I was naive in this sense. I'm not sure how my comment is pertinent in the context of this particular video, unless you mean the topic of the posts I referred to - which is a given - or maybe you meant it lacks pertinence. Which ever way, overall your evaluation of my post is condescending and seemingly inaccurate in the point you make.

  • @DavieC87 is this not one of those comments? do you put this on every video you watch? next time maybe pause and think, because you're turning into one of those annoying people......

  • @DavieC87 nah there are still some good ones ;D

  • @DavieC87 no one is forcing you to read waste time reading the comments...just sayin'.

  • @DavieC87 yeah 94 people are just really annoying.

  • is that a 'more four' logo in the top left corner...?

    lol

beautiful song. he is so damn gorgeous. and his voice.. argh!

  • 84 people slipped...

  • hey look its romeo...

  • respect to this artist for having respect for the original artist

  • Brandon Flowers sings this song so beautifully, even though I love the original it has never gave me goosebumps, but this does, they most certainly did do it justice.

  • justice was done brandon

  • great song :)

  • well done...

  • Just Got GooSeBumPs ....... GooD Song ! Good Cover , I like the way he vibrates his voice and changes the melody a little , 10/10

  • i dunno if its possible for a cover to be better than the original... is it?

it's just all that 80's stuff is just a bit. laid back.

    this is passionate!!!

  • i love this cover sooooooo much!!!

  • Great cover. Too bad these guys are arrogant.

  • @anotherman08 when? no shit, I really want to know. They make compliments and say they won't do the song justice.....to me that isn't exactly arrogant but if you have a point, please say it...

  • @anotherman08

how do you think so? From what I heard in this video, they are afraid not to do the song justice which is not exactly arrogant...is it?

  • the killers are so cool, and nice idea to cover dire straits, they did their best

  • yeah!!! the killers!!

  • Both versions are very good, however, what made this song so beautyfull was its lyrics and its guitar, and thats why i prefer the dire straits version, but i am not saying that this onde isnt good, not at all! and mark's voice is a little better and "old".

  • 'Juliet when we made love you used to cry' quite possibly the most powerful lyrics ive ever heard

  • Which one left?

  • do anybody can tell me where can I get this song´s score? but the killers's song

    dire stairs is different

  • Comment removed

  • @UriasGilberto Their b-side album, Sawdust, has it.

  • the drummer well looks like Earl Hicky or however you spell that name... lol

    anyway... love this song <3

    XD

  • Oh My God I feel in love with this song!!

    I Love YOU, Killers!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lolo631

it´s a pity that Brandon Flowers is no more a killer, because he left the band.

    I almost cry. :(

  • @UriasGilberto he did not leave...

  • @kzojgonlji if you want you can hear his solo song. "crossfire" is the song's name

  • @UriasGilberto yeah i know, but just cause he went solo because the other killers wanted to take a little break after touring and recording for 6 years doesnt mean he did leave the band....

  • @UriasGilberto I'm pretty sure he just started a solo project. I don't think he left the band.

  • nice cover but dire straits are the men

  • I love song!!!

  • beauitful love song ! great cover

  • i think i prefer the straits, but non the less this was very good

  • I love them for giving it a go and their reasons for doing it.I couldn't see any other bands these days attempting a song as big as this.A good version obviously not as good as Dire straits but a good effort just the same.Well done.

  • @modo03

yeah right. i agree. what a beautiful song. and its like this: people of common sentimentalities....we resonate to that certain frequency.

  • Superb cover, heartbreaking lyrics.

  • It is mainly the voice in the original that delivers the actual expression.

  • well the original is so great song you can't fuck it up with whatever cover.....

  • not nearly as good as the original.

  • its okay but it just doesnt compare to dire straights different generations i guess but i recomend anyone who hasnt heard the original version to look it up

  • Love the 'clouds of England'
