  • Great vid mate, I viewed & rated it 5 stars.

  • It was built 1954 to replace the Stanier Pacific "46202 Princess Anne" destroyed at Harrow and Wealdstone in October 1952. Pity the vid is so short.

  • the Duke a mythological loco? 'cause thats what some see it as

  • It does have fancy 'valve gear' (using poppet valves a bit like a car engine, but with admission and exhaust valve timing that can be varied independently of each other) This is more efficient than any other ever designed. Jaguar cars use a similar principle to max the power of their engines. Hope I'm not sending you folks off to sleep!

  • Tis 'Duke of Gloucester', British Railways unique class 8P, the only one of its class and the only BR engine ever built with 3 cylinders. But not experimental! The intention to increase the numbers of the class never came about, partly because the loco was not completely satisfactory, partly because there were already plenty of power class 8 engines about (LMS Duchess, SR Merchant Navy, LNER 'pacifics' for example) and partly because dieseliation of BR was on the horizon.

  • This is duke of Gloucester, the unique restored experimental steam engine. Rated at 8P, but not a class 8.

  • chooo chooo

  • I think that is a standard class 8 steam locomotive, Built at Crewe works.

  • The one and only.
