"Hey, Joe" is an incredible song. You know what I really like about Slash in this video? He doesn't do acrobatic stunts or anything silly; he just stands there and plays the hell out of that Les Paul. Out-STAND-ing video, MetallicAsDevel! Thank you for posting it.
Eh what about Steve Winwood&Mitch Mitchell here lads? Are they not even worthy of a mention?Has to be all about Slash???Mitch Mitchel played drums on the original studio track. He played with Jimi at Monterey. He also played with Jimi&Billy Cox at Woodstock.Winwood was Jimi's keyboards on Electric Ladyland (e.g.Voodoo Chile Blues). He's singing the song here and doesn't even get a mention on comments.. WTF??Slash plays a peach of a les paul-xtra sweet-but he's defo the lightweight on this stage.
@adio123456789 nope, the high e is the one of the lower part of the guitar ...(the thinnest string) and when your guitar strap is set low you can easily access that, but you can't play the low E string so easily..
@adio123456789 in case of confusion, the low E string is the thickest string on the guitar.....I don't know how you grab your guitar, but from my experience, you need to wrap your whole hand around the fretboard in order to reach the low E string when you set your strap really low, and I find that pretty difficult...the high e I can reach with no problem...
Slash doesn't smoke any more because him mom died of lung cancer and he doesn't want that to happen to him. And Slash puts so much heart and soul into his music and the music he plays to me he is only second to Jimi, Clapton, and Page because they put the guitar in Rock & Roll!
The thing about Slash is that he's very much a gimmick. There are so many guitarists that are better technically. I think the same about Hendrix. One thing Slash is amazing for is his dynamics and Riff writing capabilities. You only have to listen to Guns n Roses to hear that. Hendrix was a phenomenal song writer so that helped to propell his guitar playing. There was a hell of a lot of feedback and noise with his playing. But like Slash he did it with style. i love them both
I have slowly grown to appreciate Slash. Hated him at first. But watch ZZ Top-and some other legends try to cover this. I bet Slash made Jimi smile the biggest. A rebel with soul. Outta control :)
@loranceb Are you retarded? when slash plays he has that blues feel and he has alot of soul in his playing. Dont hate him when he is a stunning guitarist.
@Johnnyis31RS Lots of people say that Jimi was just a drug addict who was always out of tune. I think Slash was great for this song. My only problem with this version is that he only played single notes and not any chords which sounds a bit weird. The fact that you're bashing on the most influential guitarist of the last several generations is really lame man.
@Johnnyis31RS He's one of my favourites. I love Jimi, I was just saying how subjective opinions can be. You think Slash is the most overrated guitarist of all time. Lots of country guys think Jimi is the most overrated guitar player of all time etc.
@Johnnyis31RS actually my favorite guitarists favorite guitarist is .. robert johnson. im sure robert was one of jimis favorites. if it werent for robert there would be no rock and roll.
Slash does a great job here, as always. But if you want a real cool version of Hey Joe that makes the jaw drop check out Roy Buchanon doing it on " Live in Austin Texas " or better known as Austin City Limits. Dude kills it.
I was skeptical at first but Slash did a great job. What I like about Slash is that he has style and doesn't just shred. I don't think he even has a whammy bar on that les paul...but it almost sounds like he does. Slash plays the right notes at the right time and that's what counts. I'm not even a Slash or Rock fan but the dude sounds great.
ajajaja is this shit?? in most of the song I hear the bass, and slash is just posing, Slash once again be embarrassed in front of the cameras, you fucking shit guitarist!
@MrWileyk "Flavorofthemonth" is a bit condescending dont you think? For a guitarist who's had a lasting and incredibly successful career for the last 25 odd years. The band members obviously thought he was the right man for the job...
@connorpatmore That's only because SRV wasn't alive to play this as it would have actually sounded like Hendrix instead of GNR. Hendrix had much more soul and a lot less show off that Slash.
@egcroan Stop hating Slash. He gave an awesome performence with enough soul in it, And it didn't sound like GNR at all. I don't know what's wrong with this tribute.
@Henkie010Penkie His playing is actually terrible throughout the song (stiff, insecure, etc.), then he plays the solo in a more comfortable but generic way. Nothing to write home about, I'm afraid. You know you're going to play with Cox, Mitchell and Winwood, you'd better make sure you know what you're doing. I have nothing against Slash and don't think this song can't be played by anyone but Jimi (the Byrds' version is superb), but this is rubbish.
@ClueBand If he was playing as poor, stiff, insecure and arrogant as everyone says... If he was showing off and repeating himself as everyone says... And if he had limited skills and no versatility as everyone says. Why did they choose Slash to play the Tribute for the Greatest Guitarist in History in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which isn't a commercial organisation. They chose him, because he was the most suitable person for this Tribute. He did great, but some people just want to hate...
@Henkie010Penkie What silliness. What about Popa Chubby, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Derek Trucks, Vai and many others? We'll never know why Slash was chosen, but my guess is that he appeals to a totally different age group and demographic (while the other amazing players on stage don't), or he was simply available. Sure: some people go on the internet to get rid of steam and "hate", but others may have a sound musical education and hear the serious limitations of this guy, and be disappointed.
@ClueBand I agree, there might be others suitable to play this tribute. But the fact is that Slash is playing. Limitations? He created his own sound/playing style, which perfectly combines Blues with Hard Rock. He doesn't only play easy stuff, as many people blame. He made some of the best Riffs and Solo's in Rock history. I hear you say he's terrible, insecure, and that he doesn't know what he's doing. That are unclear and undefinable arguments. Just say you don't like him, don't say he's poor.
Yes is good, he is not Jimi Hendrix, but I´ve heard never a better cover than this! And I´ve always thought that nobody can play these song! I´m frankly flat!!! Slash´s guitar solo to be kneeling down.
It's a bit sad to not only hear this song(not a good tribute song and not even by Jimi Hendrix but, "Wind Cries Mary" would have been better) but to see Mitch mitchell looking so bad and to know that he died, just about a year later.
FINALLY A LONG VERSION OF MY MAN JOE....R.I.P HENDO AND THANKYOU FOR SLASH AND WINDWOOD... PLAYING TRIBUTE'S LIVE AS I'VE SEEN THEM DO SO.. THANKFULLY........
