Ok everyone... they weren't "inspired" by it... they fucking STOLE it! I play and write songs and ,in my time, I've stumbled across a few coincidences here and there BUT, I can also spot thievery when it occurs as well.
I saw these guys and got to meet them they were tellin fans of there problems with there label Columbia and the lack of help and surprise dropped after this album, fuckin tax break band for the label
Absolutely loved this song. I remember this playing on the old Headbanger's Ball back in the day. This band would have done well during the past decade. They were ahead of the times.
What is sad is I still like some of Disturbed's stuff, but I cannot get past how blatant they were in "borrowing" this riff. I also dislike the fact that in my circle of acquaintances, all of whom love metal, I'm the only one who knows this band.
Seriously, Disturbed was inspired by this song just like Godsmack with Alice in Chains and other metal groups today, inspired by some kickass riffs and chords from earlier bands, but Disturbed has their own "twist" in the riff so technically its original just like other bands who usually 'cover up' the riffs in a sense.
God smack was inspired by KORN i know cause i showed sully the Korn video in my living room .
Listen to go away..that was their first big hit Mad korn riffs..My roomate was the drummer then when they got a contract they kicked him out and called Tommy their old drummer and child hood friend and took him back,
But that's typical Sully ...he takes 75 % of the money and makes the band split the other 25 % He's a Douch !
Blind Willy's in NH opening for SBC, Stompbox said they were filming this video for MTV. They didn't use the footage. And I'm still waiting for my 15 minutes of mosh pit fame.
Damn, I've been looking for this "TAPE" for about 7 months. I can't find it anywhere. anyone know where I get cans digital copy of this? any cd's/mp3/wavs?
this was a truly great band. And for sure disturbed ripped this off. I used to dj in a rock club and everytime I played this someone would ask if this was a new disturbed track.. Personally i dont like disturbed, but you can just hear this riff on down with the sickness
I think this was just a complete and utter coincidence... I admitt I am a Disturbed fan and I can accept if I'm wrong, but I believe it may just sound the same... or are they the same chords?
suicidal tendancies (80's) a band that got very little recognition had many great songs that few heard. pudd of mudd used their riff in she fuckin hates me. alice in chains was the inspiration to godsmack which funny enough completely stole their bandname from and a.i.c. song yep you guessed it, "godsmack" any musician or hell, idiot will tell you its all been done!
@t2d2420 Damn, man, that must've been hella cool. This song inspired a song of mine that I did back in the mid-ninetiez. How did "No Woods" sound live?
if u think this is a blatant ripoff ? i love manson but his guitarist stole the main riff from beautiful ppl, from a live version of devo doing mexican radio in 1990.
i hope u retards know, that just because these songs sound the same with a riff dosent mean that disturbed listened in on this song and said, "well shit, thats pretty cool i want it!" guitarists write riffs by feel and whatever to them sounds good. dosent that just make the riff 2x better?? who gives a flippery fuck if it sounds good?
Disturbed sickness album came out 2000 but they werent name disturbed back then in the 1990s they were called brawl in the 90s so just think about it who copied who they just remade sum of there songs
Mr. Turlik, thank you so much for releasing the Stompbox footage. You're music is still apart of my daily rotation and I would like to extend an additional thank you for hooking-up my friend with some old WAAF (and others) audio. We jam down to y'all daily at the shop and it makes the daily-grind that much easier with this soundtrack! A Stompbox reunion show some year? My GOD, I PRAY that's what the Myans were hinting would happen in 2012! Much love from NH! Miss you guys!!! -JVP
Guys crashed at my house back in the day in Durham, NC after a show in Raleigh...drummer left his contacts there...his mom called like a day later and I ended up mailing them to Boston!
anyone who plays guitasr knows that when you just jam sometimes you come up with stuff that sounds very close to a real song and you may not notice it till later, the down with the sickness riff is so basic so it is possible that disturbed came up with the riff they use without knowing it sounded similar to this song
Copywrite laws state that you have to use the same 7 "chords" in a row to steal something. Having said that, metal is an old genre, and a good deal of the basic riffs we here these days are really just older stuff getting rehashed. You can hear alot of black sabbath in the guitar lines of main stream metal/rock bands if you listen, just as an example.
I wouldn't knock disturbed too hard for it. At least they got their inspiration from a kick ass band who sadly didn't get nearly enough airplay
@firstleviathan WOOT WOOT way to stick for disturbed my fav band of all time big time head banger i never critsize other bands as they work really hard to try and get recognized so all disturbed haters how would you feel if people were dissing and cussing your music well if you how it feels that how disturbed fans feel Disturbed for life and stompbox isnt such a bad band as my first impressions were wrong
man i saw these dudes at the 930 club in d.c. by chance. i was bored and kicking it in the city and was like "kets see who is at the 930 tonight. was totally blown away..what ever happened to this band?
Oi,all I can say is thanks to these guys for letting me shred during the filming of this..2..Thanks for killing it live if it was 10 people or 200..3 E...for being my ninja thru all the "Times"..!!!!
To the guy who wrote the Mudvayne comment...get your years straight. Mudvayne came around long after Stompbox and Disturbed. And this song...No Woods...was being played by Stombox long before they even got the contract with Sony. No one seems to mention that Sully was in the Boston music scene when Stombox was huge.......
ok, seriously people. who gives a donkey's dick on whether or not disturbed stole the riff. how about you keep your own fuckin opinion & not argue about it in a comment. god, this is why people really do have no lives cause they send useless comments that don't make any sense or it's just a gay mean opinion of the video. just enjoy the song for that matter.
@GirLovesYew Yeah. Weird, huh? That people take notice of blatant rip offs and would want to comment? Go figure. There's this, like, totally gay thing called copyright law.
If your going to say Disturbed ripped these then we might as well say every other modern hardcore band ripped them off as well because the style is not that different.
I lived in Boston in the mid-90s and these guys were such a great band. Years later, I heard the track by Disturbed and had to smile. Anyone that knows music knows it is a complete rip off. I would love to know why Stompbox never considered any type of lawsuit. JTurlik...any thoughts?
@kritikkal Jeff is my brother...and lawsuit was considered...but now, years later, who gives a fuck. Might be different if Stompbox was still around. I think it's a shame there are so many bands with the name Stompbox out there...and they suck! The live shows were so awesome, tho, eh? I watched a guy get a compound fracture of his arm at a show in Pittsburgh...small crowd, but the moshing was insane! LOL!
@Assassin938 oh yeah they stole it...cuz it sounds "just alike!"....these people are dumb cuz they hate disturbed...ya'll can keep stompbox or whatever the hell these guys are called
@disturbed21293 have u seen disturbed ? like not even in person but as people ? dont think deep on this statement because i know ur retarded.... dude that guy would love to have sex with another man...if he hasnt already hahahaha. disturbed blows and so do their fans. as cool as jugallos i say hahahahaha. GFYS
Can we discredit one band from one incident of a similar riff? One that may not have even been intentional? Now, I can understand people hating Creed for ripping off Pink Floyd for the blatant plagiarisms in almost every song.
Wow, music is influenced by other music and writing music is based off the same formulas and scales!! Who knew :O
Listen to Mudvayne - Pushing Through and tell me the main riff of that isn't similiar. If you don't know how music works then you really can't talk shit about how the riffs are similiar.
it sounds the same, but i dont think disturbed up and "stole"it. i fucking hate disturbed, but i dont think you could just rip someones shit off without being sued.
Word! Saw them @ The Fastlanes II in AsBury Park,NJ in '94..There was only like 7 other people there but they gave it full hundred regardless.. Very underrated plus not to many singers can rock a beard that he had that night! Maximum Respect to Stompbox..
@OrthodoxReuBen.. cool man i was there too. they were opening for degeneration i think and you are right there was no one there. went strictly to see them and they did kill. totally underrated and gone too soon....
We're all so young and fresh! You could feed a small nation on the weight gain of me, CaveDave, and Zeph alone. Maze still looks exactly the same, though.
The Sickness was obviously influenced by this song. The difference is, is that I have listened to The Sickness probably 120 to 150 times and will and will love that song until I die. Whereas with this song, I really have no desire to listen to it ever again. It is heavy and has a good beat and all but, its... well... typical. The Sickness is brilliantly put together and is in a class all its own, above and beyond No Woods.
Disturbed fucking BLOW. Whoa Ah Ah Ah Ah! Even Richard Cheese's version of DWTS is better than the Disturbed "original."
This song is the jam. I love the beat change @ 1:28 and the Helmet-esque phrasing that they put into almost every song. No Woods is infinitely better than DWTS, and Stompbox is better than Disturbed could ever be, even with only one album to their name.
Disturbed is so lame for stealing this riff. Stompbox was awesome back in the day. The early-mid 90's was the best time for metal. SO MUCH good stuff came out then.
@HARVEYandDIRTDEVIL It's funny you say this. I also caught wind of these guys through that Rock Video Monthly. I remember it also had Downset. I've been a big fan of both bands since.
I used to catch these guys in Boston all the time back in '93-'95 while I was in college. They were going to break huge and then all of a sudden they started calling themselves "Slower" or something. I checked out a gig at I think Paradise and the bassist was singing.
God, I hope JTurlik isn't like working at a McDonald's or something now. That would really bum me out. And I want to know why he didn't sue those d-bags in Disturbed for stealing his best riff!
I love this band, but seriously people?! do you honestly think disturbed took this from them? they probably don't even know who the fuck they are. get over it.
This song is badass. I cant find these guys on LIMEWIRE. I have been looking for this song for this song for yeeeeeeeeaaaaaars. I have an old tape sleeve that has names of songs I used to listen to on my WALKMAN.
LOVE this song! Pretty good CD, too. Saw these guys at Tipitina's in New Orleans, LA opening for Kyuss on the Sky Valley tour. They managed to win over a Kyuss crowd, which is no small feat.
Love this son love this band Heard of them hanging out in Kenmore SQ. back in 94 still blasting it today. Tried to catch them play a few times i think i saw them once at the Boston Hemp freedom rally with toxic narcotic and tree...but that was a long hazy time ago..either way ONE of the Best bands ever...
wait...you guys are complaining because the main riff is similar?
what about the rest of the song?
Do NOT think for a second that disturbed just took this song, slapped their name on it and sent it off. for all you know it was a coincidence!
besides, should u not be happy that a good band like disturbed thinks, or likes the same riffs as stompbox? it just shows that great minds think alike!
Everyone is talking about how Disturbed "stole" this song. There are so many songs out there that coming up with something completely original is almost impossible. For example I was writing a song for my band the other day, and it turns out the main riff it was the same as the riff to cherub rock by the smashing pumpkins. I love the pumpkins but never for a second did I think about copying their music. It just sounded good.
Music industry is so huge that its almost impossible to come around with original stuff nowadays. This might be just a coincidence or maybe they did steal it, impossible to know.
Right, because Bullet stole their riff from Slayer? You can't copyright a riff. There's this little thing called coincidence; which is pretty common with the rock music genre considering it's so broad
wish these guys would have trumped Korn!

I first heard this song on "Rock Video Monthly" back in the early 90's and it still gets stuck in my head today :D

@TheOnlyDisturbedOne
If I know who they are, I'm betting the guys in Disturbed knew who they are.

LOVE this song! Pretty good CD, too. Saw these guys at Tipitina's in New Orleans, LA opening for Kyuss on the Sky Valley tour. They managed to win over a Kyuss crowd, which is no small feat.

AWESOME BAND!!
straightedger9 2 years ago 2
wait...you guys are complaining because the main riff is similar?
what about the rest of the song?

It just sounded good.
howxboutxno 2 years ago
whats the deal with the disturbed and stompbox argument. The lyrics are different and disturbed put their own flavor to the beat
xwarrior74 2 years ago
The music was ripped off, duh. The beat as you said.
NeverAloneForever 2 years ago
yep disturbed is a bunch of loser who cant make there own music so they copy off bands who make there own music and dont copy off others

wow disturb did copy their main riff from this band =/
metlover123 3 years ago 15
Music industry is so huge that its almost impossible to come around with original stuff nowadays. This might be just a coincidence or maybe they did steal it, impossible to know.
SniggeFIN 2 years ago 2
@metlover123 its likey that disturbed doesnt know about this
stargod4 1 year ago
@metlover123 they didnt copy it exactly theres vatied parts and disturbeds down with the sickness is still good even if the main riff was "copied"
xxxDISTURBEDxxx100 1 year ago
@metlover123
Right, because Bullet stole their riff from Slayer? You can't copyright a riff. There's this little thing called coincidence; which is pretty common with the rock music genre considering it's so broad
Krow83 1 year ago
@metlover123
There's this thing called coincedence.... you can't "own" a riff.
Otherwise Jane's Addiction would be sueing Judas Priest, atm.
How about you do some research rather than just making yourself look like a straight-up tool?
