@keithtuber I heard they're making a whole new computer system just 2 play this game so i wouldn't say for certain it'll be a ps3 release aswell (hopefully there is). But it definitely is on pc
the official news says its only "paused" for xbox. besides the xbox have lots of other great games comming out around the same time- so i can wait. besides by March 31, 2011 xbox will have kinetic for it so no controller- that will be so fun

why couldnt they keep lightning and hope and stuff in it :/ like certain characters.
They could have done something with Hope cosidering he can get older and older to 21 and keep saving the world or something. :/ they never seem to keep the same characters anymore. :/

and im not so sure. but i know that Cloud Strife was in Crisis Core. and Cloud was also in the movie Advent children so they kept him in it for 2 things. but im not sure if cloud was in other final fantasy games.
@mackayash but what i ment by they could put hope in something else like he could find his way in another ff game like clouds been in kingdom of hearts, also in dirge of cerbus and stuff like that :/
@xxxBirdy6xxx yea but dirge of cerberus is fan service - people begged SE for a remake of FFVII, instead they got spin offs, Dirge of Cerberus being one of them (and Advent Children). In this case, FFVII was really popular and that is why this happened - FFXIII is no where near as popular, and especially Hope from what i gather so don't expect this to happen any time soon :P. As for him showing up in a future KH game, that could be possible but i wouldn't count on it either.
@XJ0rdanX1 At the moment, they've taken the game back because it was so monumentally shite on release, and extended the beta. Would imagine it'll be PC-exclusive, but of course if there's any justice in the universe (and Enix aren't COMPLETE FUCKTARDS) they'll release it on BOTH 360 and PS3.

I don't agree that they ported it to Xbox and became sellouts but whatever, business is business. I wouldn't say FFVII has been milked dry but rather the entire series itself. 7 is just the best one and they want to elaborate more on the story because people like 7 for its story.
And I don't know why people didn't like Crisis Core. The only bad thing about that game was the summoning, other then that it was better then the actual 7.
@EloLawliet Crisis core was them taking FFVII plot and laying it on top of a Kingdom Hearts battle system. To me, that makes it fuckin' suck. The characters introduced kind of destroyed the significance of sephiroth, especially since genesis and angeal both had wings...what the fuck? The story of FFVII was good enough. I wish there was more too, sometimes, but its difficult when mostly shit came out because of that.
The only shit to come out of FFVII is Before Crisis... I don't know why you would complain about Kingdom Hearts' game play, it's infinitely better in both story and game play. The significance of this game is to explain why Sephiroth is all pissed off and how the game begins. And if you didn't think the ending scene of Crisis Core was incredible then you shouldn't even be playing FF.
@EloLawliet I've been playing FF since i was a wee tyke. I felt that this just sort of messed it all up...Crisis core was based on before crisis, so I don't understand why you hate before crisis but not crisis core, since it's story line was much more farfetched. It already explained why sephiroth was pissed off in FFVII, and back then it was much more than "Yo dawg, the lied, and genesis has got mah back." It was more the realisation of his destiny, which is stronger.
When I said Before Crisis I was referring to the cell phone game where you play as the Turks.
And yes I have realized that they do say Zach comes from. The game itself is more to tell of the Buster Swords history more then anything else. It basically tells where Zach comes into play and why he was even included in the game. I thought it was a great game and completely enjoyable. But I don't play games to get all super nerdy about them (Except Pokemon and Ratchet and Clank :/).
@Torkulguy I hate to jump in on an arguement not intended for me, however, I disagree with you good sir. Crisis Core was a great game given you like good cinematics and story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's what has gotten me back into rpgs and final fantasy. I believe for the most part it was a testament to what could be done on the PSP in terms of CGI. It was more or less an interactive movie for fanboys of FF VII, on those grounds it served the VII series amazingly.
@Torkulguy Also, in terms of story, I don't think they ever solidified the whole Zack Fair story well even in Final Fantasy VII or Advent Children. I think Crisis Core basically tied up loose ends and made a cannon story to the actual game of what happened to make Cloud the way he is, I mean, between the death of his best friend and of course Aerith in VII. I think it made an official story that fans could refer to once and for all and I liked it personally.
Heres what i have to say, The FF series was very extrodinary but started losing its touch after FF 11 when class change shperes Gf's were taken away and re inserted in FF 13 as some form of demon seal called upon when faced with your ultimate challenge, i in fact have played "every" single FF game alive since i personally find the game dditcing or well "use to" after FF 13 i have to say the game has lost most of its touch and needs to make a well suited comeback...
@MrShineOnline1 I believe that the first FF to appear on any modern system was always too easy and linear.. hence not as good... except for FFVII, which was linear for a while before it got really open. But look at FFX on ps2. I swear it is the easiest one and bloody linear too.
Maybe FFXIII is the same case? Easier game to test the waters of PS3? We will see improvements in future installments.
But you still claimed a game that isn't even out yet is better than another game that also isn't out yet. Plus, I have no idea what this 'first amendment' thing you're talking about is.

Thats not what i said. They first unveiled FF 14 and then one year later FF13, they launched FF13 a couple of months later, and just months after they come up with a trailer for FF14? Either its Fake, or Square needs to better plan their release dates, because showing off a brand new game, and then stoping showing off the game, to then show off yet another game wich is suposed to be previous to the one they just show, and then 2 years later, launch a trailer of the game is just purely stupid.
@gyrotuffjonykirby they started showing of the ff13 games literally over 4-6yrs ago so them releasing a single trailer for this doesn't mean anything other then they were thinking they might make it at some point and a random time in the future .. though i did here a few people they pre ordered ff13 got a code to beta test it lol
I too enjoy the series however FF11 Just didn't work out for me as i don't have a credit card and don't intend on getting one. I think If squaresoft wants a larger audience they need to introduce the 3 month prepay cards like world of warcraft and those other mmorpg's have.

For me, wow died a long time ago when they introduced the easy gear aka burning crusade, i hear it's even worse now with purchasable epics. If square improve this MMO over FF11, then I am certain this MMO will be good.

@pikachuu2 Ive played FFXI for 5 years and WoW for 2 months, FFXI wins because u actually have to bust ur ass to get gear, it took me a month to get 80DK with full tier 9 gear, WoW is way to easy specially with the dungeon finder now, FFXI is challenging, i also heard that the new updates on FFXI are just tests to improve FFXIV, SE is makin sure they perfect FFXIV which is really awesome cant wait for this game.
@CasperPL1 FF11 was way too grindy. It's why it wasn't popular. I did like the way you obtained gear in FF11, it just wasnt suited for the right gameplay, since youd get campers 24/7 7 days a week just for 1 boss spawn.
@gyrotuffjonykirby Final Fantasy 14 has been planned since 2002. Making a trailer like this for a corporation like Square-Enix is really simple, they unveiled Final Fantasy 14 in 2008. A year later and we get a trailer, a few days later and it's translated into English, it's not hard, converting Japanese into English is quite simple. I don't see what you're going on about, it takes 6 months to fully translate a 40GB game to English from Japanese, a one minute 4MB trailer won't take long.
I'm not against SE making a mmorpg game. Sure go and make a good one by all means.. just don't include it in the main FF series.
Make it a spin-off like FFTactics/Dissidia. Call it FFOnline or sth. The main FF line has a rich tradition of being an awesome single-player experience. Why spoil it?

I agree, call it FF online, but 11 and 14 shouldnt be in the numbered series. I also dont like the concept behind ff 13 versus, the game looks cool, but why not just call it ff 14 or even 15 if they are being that anal. I have no issue with Square reusing the game engine from ff13, by all accounts it cost them a lot, but Final Fantasy used to be a vaulted title, and they cheapen it with this. The roman numeraled series should be held to a different standard.
@Bigbudd0045 Glad you agree mate. The main FF series have a long history of being the singleplayer game that sets the bar for the rest. It is for that reason that people still return to play that particular FF that made the greatest impression on them even though that game is old. As for me, FF8 was it. Heck, for older players,it maybe FF1.
But FF11 and FF14 will forever be denied that nostalgia effect. When online games get outdated, they disappear; like how FF14 will undermine FF11 IMO.
@anadus7 ur pretty stupid buddy, FFXI ONLINE and FFXIV ONLINE still counts as the final fantasy series, every final fantasy is different not all have the same story line this just happens to be a Final Fantasy ONLINE, dissidia is more like a sequel to all the final fantasy games since it has almost every character from all FF's, FFXI and FFXIV does count, so if a ff fan says he played all but FFXI doesnt count he didnt play them all.
@anadus7 I think it is a shame that people skipped 11. If they had played it they would realize that the story is just as rich, if not, richer than the others because the story keeps evolving. Each expansion has its own distinct story that adds to the over all world. I personally love 11, and can not wait for 14
@chaliechan101 I havent played XI so I cant really say anything abt its plot. I did read wiki article on it tho and the impression I get is that there is a premise to XI and this premise provides the motivation for players to progress/level up etc.
Because of that, XI does not feel like reading a story anymore and thats where the old single-player charm is lost IMO.
But, assuming if there's indeed an engaging plot in XI, the game would not be supported indefinitely. The server's gonna close down eventually because its going to get outdated. It seems to me that XIV would undermine XI just as how Windows 7 would undermine XP eventually.
When XI is finally down, XI-fans like urself would not be able to play it in the future. That's what i mean by the lost nostalgia effect.
@anadus7 Also one thing that FFXI does much differntly than most other MMORPG's that I have played is, they include wonderful cut scenes, which I think pays homage to the classic games at critical story points.
@anadus7@anadus7 Id take anything i read in a "wiki" with a grain of salt. And Im quiet sure that in order to progress the story in any FF or RPG for that matter you have to level, so that is nothing different. I just find the fact that you can watch the stories unfold with like minded individuals in a real party much more charming than just doing a single player game.
@anadus7 Spot on man... They simply don't fit in at all. Its annoying to not be able to claim you've completed and enjoyed every main final fantasy because of 11, and now probably 14... Its not even because they're necessarily bad, they're just a completely different type of game.
@anadus7 I've played all of them and didn't miss 11, its your fault, its not that expensive playing an MMO, it'll just put you down about $120 a year, big deal...also, the numbering isn't that big a deal either, what makes Tactics any less main than any numbered FF, its not as if the games have been sequels to each other and FFXI broke that.
@gameking965 yea of course, all MMO games are like this because you're playing the game with millions of people online around the world, so they need to fund server maintenance and worker salaries and markup through us, the person using the service. Its not different than Cable TV, except that MMOs are addictive as hell and too awesome. Let me ask you something: do you pay a monthly fee for any service online, such as a game site membership or anything of the sort?
@gameking965 Its not different paying for this game - I was skeptical when I paid for my first MMO but you literally end up saving a crapload more money in the long run because all you'll play is the MMO. Try it out if you're interested, you get 1 month free of charge as a trial.
@anadus7 Some people, including myself and in this era of gaming actually most gamers, prefer MMORPG. I get sick of completely repetitive fights with AI that are pre-programmed to do something completely predictable. I'm very excited they're coming out with another MMORPG and I look forward to playing it harder than all of the other FF games i've played.
@Skiffee I think you misunderstood my comment. It was never my intention to say that mmorpg is inferior to single-player games. I am merely pointing out that the Roman Numericals in the FF franchise have a proud history of delivering not just gameplay, but great narrative stories as well. There is a certain sense of sentimentality to it.
I am just suggesting that an FFmmorpg could have been made as an off-shoot franchise much like Tactics n Dissidia n both have done well respectively too.
@anadus7 I agree with your statement. but truthfully I don't really think it matters since every different FF is a whole different story (FFX and FFXIII is an exception). however on the other hand, I truthfully think square enix is advancing too fast with their games. FFXII still have FF Versus XIII and FFXIII Agito. FFmmorpgs don't necessarily need an off-shoot if they can clearly create an overall story for the entire mmorpg.
this is crap why would they reserve a name like FINAL FANTASY 14 for a FUCKING MMORPG call it final fantasy 13 online maybe? buy why do you need to reserve the name for a fucking MMORPG.

- No story

And I don't know why people didn't like Crisis Core. The only bad thing about that game was the summoning, other then that it was better then the actual 7.

@EloLawliet Crisis core was them taking FFVII plot and laying it on top of a Kingdom Hearts battle system. To me, that makes it fuckin' suck. The characters introduced kind of destroyed the significance of sephiroth, especially since genesis and angeal both had wings...what the fuck? The story of FFVII was good enough. I wish there was more too, sometimes, but its difficult when mostly shit came out because of that.

The only shit to come out of FFVII is Before Crisis... I don't know why you would complain about Kingdom Hearts' game play, it's infinitely better in both story and game play. The significance of this game is to explain why Sephiroth is all pissed off and how the game begins. And if you didn't think the ending scene of Crisis Core was incredible then you shouldn't even be playing FF.

I felt that this just sort of messed it all up...Crisis core was based on before crisis, so I don't understand why you hate before crisis but not crisis core, since it's story line was much more farfetched. It already explained why sephiroth was pissed off in FFVII, and back then it was much more than "Yo dawg, the lied, and genesis has got mah back." It was more the realisation of his destiny, which is stronger.

When I said Before Crisis I was referring to the cell phone game where you play as the Turks.
And yes I have realized that they do say Zach comes from. The game itself is more to tell of the Buster Swords history more then anything else. It basically tells where Zach comes into play and why he was even included in the game. I thought it was a great game and completely enjoyable. But I don't play games to get all super nerdy about them (Except Pokemon and Ratchet and Clank :/).

@Torkulguy I hate to jump in on an arguement not intended for me, however, I disagree with you good sir. Crisis Core was a great game given you like good cinematics and story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's what has gotten me back into rpgs and final fantasy. I believe for the most part it was a testament to what could be done on the PSP in terms of CGI. It was more or less an interactive movie for fanboys of FF VII, on those grounds it served the VII series amazingly.

@Torkulguy Also, in terms of story, I don't think they ever solidified the whole Zack Fair story well even in Final Fantasy VII or Advent Children. I think Crisis Core basically tied up loose ends and made a cannon story to the actual game of what happened to make Cloud the way he is, I mean, between the death of his best friend and of course Aerith in VII. I think it made an official story that fans could refer to once and for all and I liked it personally.

Heres what i have to say, The FF series was very extrodinary but started losing its touch after FF 11 when class change shperes Gf's were taken away and re inserted in FF 13 as some form of demon seal called upon when faced with your ultimate challenge, i in fact have played "every" single FF game alive since i personally find the game dditcing or well "use to" after FF 13 i have to say the game has lost most of its touch and needs to make a well suited comeback...

@MrShineOnline1 I believe that the first FF to appear on any modern system was always too easy and linear.. hence not as good... except for FFVII, which was linear for a while before it got really open. But look at FFX on ps2. I swear it is the easiest one and bloody linear too.
Maybe FFXIII is the same case? Easier game to test the waters of PS3? We will see improvements in future installments.

Thats not what i said. They first unveiled FF 14 and then one year later FF13, they launched FF13 a couple of months later, and just months after they come up with a trailer for FF14? Either its Fake, or Square needs to better plan their release dates, because showing off a brand new game, and then stoping showing off the game, to then show off yet another game wich is suposed to be previous to the one they just show, and then 2 years later, launch a trailer of the game is just purely stupid.

I too enjoy the series however FF11 Just didn't work out for me as i don't have a credit card and don't intend on getting one. I think If squaresoft wants a larger audience they need to introduce the 3 month prepay cards like world of warcraft and those other mmorpg's have.

@pikachuu2 Ive played FFXI for 5 years and WoW for 2 months, FFXI wins because u actually have to bust ur ass to get gear, it took me a month to get 80DK with full tier 9 gear, WoW is way to easy specially with the dungeon finder now, FFXI is challenging, i also heard that the new updates on FFXI are just tests to improve FFXIV, SE is makin sure they perfect FFXIV which is really awesome cant wait for this game.

@CasperPL1 FF11 was way too grindy. It's why it wasn't popular. I did like the way you obtained gear in FF11, it just wasnt suited for the right gameplay, since youd get campers 24/7 7 days a week just for 1 boss spawn.

@gyrotuffjonykirby Final Fantasy 14 has been planned since 2002. Making a trailer like this for a corporation like Square-Enix is really simple, they unveiled Final Fantasy 14 in 2008. A year later and we get a trailer, a few days later and it's translated into English, it's not hard, converting Japanese into English is quite simple. I don't see what you're going on about, it takes 6 months to fully translate a 40GB game to English from Japanese, a one minute 4MB trailer won't take long.

I'm not against SE making a mmorpg game. Sure go and make a good one by all means.. just don't include it in the main FF series.
Make it a spin-off like FFTactics/Dissidia. Call it FFOnline or sth. The main FF line has a rich tradition of being an awesome single-player experience. Why spoil it?

I agree, call it FF online, but 11 and 14 shouldnt be in the numbered series. I also dont like the concept behind ff 13 versus, the game looks cool, but why not just call it ff 14 or even 15 if they are being that anal. I have no issue with Square reusing the game engine from ff13, by all accounts it cost them a lot, but Final Fantasy used to be a vaulted title, and they cheapen it with this. The roman numeraled series should be held to a different standard.

It is for that reason that people still return to play that particular FF that made the greatest impression on them even though that game is old. As for me, FF8 was it. Heck, for older players,it maybe FF1.
But FF11 and FF14 will forever be denied that nostalgia effect. When online games get outdated, they disappear; like how FF14 will undermine FF11 IMO.

@anadus7 ur pretty stupid buddy, FFXI ONLINE and FFXIV ONLINE still counts as the final fantasy series, every final fantasy is different not all have the same story line this just happens to be a Final Fantasy ONLINE, dissidia is more like a sequel to all the final fantasy games since it has almost every character from all FF's, FFXI and FFXIV does count, so if a ff fan says he played all but FFXI doesnt count he didnt play them all.

@anadus7 I think it is a shame that people skipped 11. If they had played it they would realize that the story is just as rich, if not, richer than the others because the story keeps evolving. Each expansion has its own distinct story that adds to the over all world. I personally love 11, and can not wait for 14

@chaliechan101 I havent played XI so I cant really say anything abt its plot. I did read wiki article on it tho and the impression I get is that there is a premise to XI and this premise provides the motivation for players to progress/level up etc.
Because of that, XI does not feel like reading a story anymore and thats where the old single-player charm is lost IMO.

But, assuming if there's indeed an engaging plot in XI, the game would not be supported indefinitely. The server's gonna close down eventually because its going to get outdated. It seems to me that XIV would undermine XI just as how Windows 7 would undermine XP eventually.
When XI is finally down, XI-fans like urself would not be able to play it in the future. That's what i mean by the lost nostalgia effect.
UNLESS ,of course, SE gonna support XI forever.

And Im quiet sure that in order to progress the story in any FF or RPG for that matter you have to level, so that is nothing different. I just find the fact that you can watch the stories unfold with like minded individuals in a real party much more charming than just doing a single player game.

Its not different than Cable TV, except that MMOs are addictive as hell and too awesome. I get sick of completely repetitive fights with AI that are pre-programmed to do something completely predictable. I'm very excited they're coming out with another MMORPG and I look forward to playing it harder than all of the other FF games i've played.

@Skiffee I think you misunderstood my comment. It was never my intention to say that mmorpg is inferior to single-player games. I am merely pointing out that the Roman Numericals in the FF franchise have a proud history of delivering not just gameplay, but great narrative stories as well. There is a certain sense of sentimentality to it.
I am just suggesting that an FFmmorpg could have been made as an off-shoot franchise much like Tactics n Dissidia n both have done well respectively too.

@anadus7 I agree with your statement. but truthfully I don't really think it matters since every different FF is a whole different story (FFX and FFXIII is an exception). however on the other hand, I truthfully think square enix is advancing too fast with their games. FFXII still have FF Versus XIII and FFXIII Agito. FFmmorpgs don't necessarily need an off-shoot if they can clearly create an overall story for the entire mmorpg.
