I was using korg ESX-1 the same way for making all sort of percussive instruments from raw 8 sec Sine wave @ 50 hz, 80, hz, 200 hz, 500 hz, respectfully I loaded all other waveforms triangle, pulse, saw and some noise. Then sculpting the sound with LFO and little imagination and you have yourself Analog Drum Module. Peace for the all ESX-1 users and to all music lovers outhere.
cool. I was experimenting a lots using sinewave and white noise on esx! try to put some resonance on hihat and snare for more natural metalic sound:) also put 12+ boost on loaded waveforms for a pure fatness!
Hi man ! thanks for the tutorial i just got got an ESX1 for Christmas and your video helped a lot , im in to the process of loading samples and i have read the manual and i load them successfully to the internal memory but once i try to play them they just sound like a fuzz no matter how many i tried they are all . aiff or .wav files, both giving me the same result.. help would be much appreciated ...
what are all the buttons for? all of them different functions? can you put your own sounds on these buttons? sorry for all of these stupid questions but i don't know how this stuff works. as for the kaossilator/kaoss pad...what is it good for?
I just sold my pride & joy, Moog Rogue from 1983, that I had since then. It was analog & basically not used much. Needed the money, sold for $400, sigh
Thanks man!! I didn't have any other equipment & when I bought it, I was really into Rush & wanted to make those "sounds" from the 2112 & Hemispheres albums (the water) anyways, , you guys are really talented!
Hi. I just got my EMX today. I've managed to create some beats. How do you go about making a sine wave on it, like you did at the beginning? Thanks man.
on the EMX you would need to sacrifice a synth part i guess, unless korg have a long sine wave as a drum sample (i sampled a 5 second sine wave from soundforge generator)
fucking noies!

Hey cool stuff!
Whats this black synth with some red lights you are tweaking?
Also whats this Filter Stomp-Box? Does it have MIDI or how did you sync it to da beat?
cheers
WackyJackyTracky 9 months ago
@WackyJackyTracky the black thing is the MKS50 programmer, (the synth is in the rack)
the green boss stomp is the slicer sl 20, it syncs to midi

want to do remixes is the esx1 good for that and if not can you recomend hardware/software for doing so thanks for demo
secondsoutkid 11 months ago
@secondsoutkid ableton live is probably the best software for remixing
the esx is nice but for remixes with long-ish samples, the octotrack will be the king
muzik4machines 11 months ago
@muzik4machines safe fella will look into that

@electrikcity7 thanks
are you using max 16bit 44.1 samples? 24 bit is not suported IIRC, and over 44 neither

hey cool vid can the ESX1 be used as a midi controller for a DAW
djnosleeves85 1 year ago
@djnosleeves85 thanks, it can for the knobs, but not for the mutes/solo :(

I'd make a song with of the beat of 0:44 (you can hear it only for a very short time)

sinewaves + whitenoise= magic
that´s why I love raster-noton music

basis of all sounds (sine at for sure with FFT, and i guess the noise is just all sines mixed equally, so sine waves FTW! :))

agree ;)
I used to fill my esx with tiny sounds from the nord modular..fun!
love the sequencer from the esx

are you using compression on your sine wave????
pmsan29 2 years ago
none at all, its direct output from the ESX into the mixer, direct in the computer(no out comp neither)

Thanks man. I'm about to hook it all up with Ableton so hopefully I'll be able to get some of the great sounds you're producing out of it.

Nice i'll have to experiment on my EMX1

Nice minimal type drum sounds - you could almost get away with just the drums and some effects :-)
hsifylleg 3 years ago 2
thanks, that was the goal at first, then i decided on adding the synth(the last 2 crappy minutes) with the cheezy arpegiator of the ESX
