Abusing a move because of its hard-to-circumvent nature is by definition SPAMMING. You can use whatever euphemism you like, but the fact remains. If overcoming this tactic were so easy, it wouldn't be used - fact.

Moreover, you wouldn't see a thousand FBs thrown per round and throws whored every time someone's rote pattern doesn't work.

At any rate, you can pick 'em up a lot cheaper now. I've seen 'em around for like half what I got it for. Moreover, you don't actually need a TE stick, a standard edition is just fine as command inputs in SFIV are designed for control PADS, and thus are Wii-easy to execute.

Couple this with the fact Wiiyu is near broken in how he has no real bad match-ups (compared to other characters, some of who have most of the roster going against them!) in a game that is as match-up and spam-centric as any fight-game ever made, and you've got Gaygo Umehado!

He plays bare bones SF. If you can't figure out a way past the projectiles, who's fault is that? Certainly not his

@Sablicious Other fireball characters can cancel out Ryu's, give yourself super armor, characters like Zangief, Balrog, Abel, (to name a few) have moves that can go completely through fireballs and potentially punish Ryu. Bottom line is that this is the way the game is played. When Daigo played 3rd Strike, he didn't spam Hadoukens because they weren't good in that game. They're good in this one, so why shouldn't he use them to their full abilities?

The "best way" to play SF, or any fight-game, is to NOT pick the top tier, near-broken characters & spam hard-to-circumvent, rote patterns

It's this attitude that makes gams like SF4 the bore fests they are - peeps play only to win, not to get better. They chose characters & use play styles - no matter how face-palm boring - that are most likely to win. Hence 25% of onliners being Ryus/Kens

At least MK9 looks to buck this trend with its diverse roster & fun-looking gameplay

@Sablicious Ryu comes in about 6th on this tier list, which is high, but not broken. Again, many characters have ways to get past the fireballs, so it sounds to me like you're trying to justify your own inability to breakthrough on Ryu's alleged brokenness. The reason you see a bunch of Ryu/Ken players is because they're so familiar, being series staples for the past 20 years. And MK9? Mortal Kombat hasn't been relevant to anything pertaining to competitive fighting games in like, 7 years

@Sablicious That's why your supposed to utilse all of your characters attributes and abilities to avoid them like other fireballs focus attacks and jumping. Some of the characters are over and underpowered but if you know that then simply pick the one's that aren't and if you can't avoid something simple like fireballs then that's simply your fault. Try practicing or watching videos like this one to conjour up some strategies against it.

@Rapthorne54 No. MK's been an utter turd gameplay-wise since day dot. However, its roster, narrative, design, presentaiton far surpass SF's.

Having said that, there are no more 'hardcore' fighting games any more--they died with coin-hungry arcades--only HARDCORE PLAYERS. As such, any game can be played in a hardcore fashion; from your generic shovelware FPS Halos to SF. This, however, does not make the GAME hardcore, only its followers.

All games are, at their core, casual now. Thank Nintendo.

This is why MK2011 looks like it may be superior to SF & its rehashes - it actually looks FUN.

SF4 is not fun. Outside of the satisfaction derived from winning, there's little to enjoy in a game that promotes & rewards rote pattern spamming & limited character abuse.

SF4 is an entry-level fighting game made primarily to move units in this era of casual gaming, & it shows.

At least MK is TRYING to improve & give gamers what they want, not just stuff a pacifier in their faces.

And it always comes up with something different to its style of gameplay in every series its come out in. mortal kombat's only done that maybe once or twice, besides have you even seen mortal kombat being registered as a competitive tournament level game? perhaps the new mk may be a better game but that remains to be seen, and until then [s]sf4 remains supreme.
