  • Man i look at your truck and then look at mine and say too myself i gotta alot stuff too do too mine haha...I have the same set up as u only mines a w350 and is urs 4x4 too? And also how do u like the pwoerstroke intercooler ive been hereing alot on them and how fast will ur truck top out at?

  • @Unlimited3406 Mine is a 3/4 ton 4x4. Powerstroke cooler works well, but takes a little work to get it in there. Top out, I guess only around a 100.

  • Nice sounding diesel engine. Just how a diesel is supposed to sound. Adorable looking kids. What I don't understand is the gauges up on the pillar of the truck. I like the tach on the steering column. It's too bad the truck didn't come with a tach. But why the extra gauges?

  • @Seattlecarnut Just to watch boost pressure and exhaust gas temp.

  • @1958johndeere620 Ah! Ok. That makes sense. It's too bad it didn't come with these things to begin with.

  • Very nice first gen

  • How many rpm's does your truck turn at a steady 55-60 MPH

  • @DougyFresh50AE Maybe 2k at 60, don't pay much attention.

  • Hey I have a question, it's probably kinda stupid but oh well haha. How do you hook up the tach? I can't find a video that shows how....

  • @dirtbikemechanic The 89, 90, and most 91's have no crank sensor. What I did was get a pick up from Isspro that reads 2 magnets that you epoxy on the balencer. I use their tach as well. Works very well, and does not need to be calibrated like some other brands. The 92 and 93's have a crank sensor and you can just hook an Isspro tach to the factory wire tach plug under the dash. I have done that on my 92 and 93.

  • @1958johndeere620 Ok cool! Thanks for replying! It helped a bunch!

  • is that 727 stock??

  • how u get it to hold up mine slips

  • @thefarminkid8760 Get it rebuilt. If it slips then its frigged up.

  • Beautiful truck, however i would replace that exhaust manifold with an ATS one asap. those old bolts bend over time and can easily break when you try to remove it, then you have to drill out the bolts and thats a real mess. ATS makes the best exhaust manifold for this truck, itll never break or crack no matter how much heat. it serves me well :)

  • were this trucks turbo charged in 89?

  • @Skeeter150R Yes all dodge cummins trucks were turbo engines. They were not intercooled until 91.5.

  • @Skeeter150R no its a "turbo" diesel but it does not have a turbo.................

    wow

  • @LifEndsQuick Just because it has a turbo on it in 2008, doesn't mean it was turbo charged in 1989 when it came from the factory.. A simple question that he was asking.

Even though all Cummins were Direct Injected Turbocharged Diesels.

  • hey man, i saw the clips of your 93 dodge ci=ummins and they both are nice trucks man, how many miles on both of them?

  • @CumminsCrazedredneck Both have about 130,000 on them.

  • ahh yes, teaching the kids to love diesels at an early age. good lesson in life, fuck gas, buy diesel. oh, when i have kids, im gonna teach them to love diesel pickups and old jeeps, gas powered or not.

  • ahh yes, teaching the kids to love diesels at an early age. good lesson in life, fuck gas, buy diesel.

  • rattle rattle

  • ur reverse lights are out...

  • Something tells me your daughter is going to have a lead foot! lol

  • Comment removed

  • hello friend I have a motor and I like to modify my H1c, I say to change the turbine housing 18cm by 12cm, you think it would increase the boost, the old-growth yours H1c the s300? Thanks for responding friend

  • ware did you get the rpm gauge

  • @navajacob122 Look down 4 posts.

  • stock manifold?

  • @LoG191 Stock exhaust manifold

  • Nice tach and autometers! Where did you buy them from? OH and where does this take place?

  • @Busdude97 The autometers came from Diesel Fuel Systems in Bangor Maine and the tach came from Isspro direct. Took place in Maine.

  • @1958johndeere620 Oh cool. I like the dual autometers and the tachometer. Tanks.

  • @1958johndeere620 Oh cool!

  • did the isspro tach come with that mounting set-up or is that your custom setup? also how much does it require to hook it up?

  • @03crf That is a pod from isspro. I got the pod, tach, and pick up assembly from isspro direct. If you go to there sweb site and check out the PDF catalog all of it is listed there.

  • stock trans?

  • lol awesome. I laughed so hard when the camera changed to show the little girl hitting the gas.

  • @Vintagesandui800 yes they did in 89 through 93

  • Did these trucks use Torqueflite transmissions?

  • @Vintagesansui800 The 89 through early 91 had the 727 and the 91.5's through 93 had the 518's.

  • what year powerstroke cooler? or do you think it will matter?

  • @countryboy660 Mine is from a 2001. Find one of that style ( junk yards will know which years are the same ) and make sure it has the aluminum end tanks. Some had plastic end tanks and may not like the pressure as well.

  • how did you mount the intercooler? I have a 90 and i want to do the same. any help would be great.

  • @countryboy660 I set it where it needed to go, marked where the holes needed to be cut for the cooler pipes. Then I set it in place and used the mounting holes on the power stroke cooler as a guide. There is alot of things to frig with to get it in there. The hood latch, tranny cooler, a/c condenser, resupport the core support where it was cut, cut the radiator supports ect. Its not as easy as one would think.

  • this truck is sick

  • is the motor an 89?

  • @tendersmash Yes

  • do you have the 366 spring

  • @1958johndeere620 when your driving are you hitting 65mph in second gear i dont have a tach on mine but it doesnt seem like it would go that fast in second

  • @913cummins89 When it was set to a stock rpm it would only do about 75 to 78 mph in 3rd on the gov. I took the high idle screw and backed it all the way out. It will do 65 or better in 2nd now and most likley will do close to a hundred wound all the way up in 3rd. Don't car to go that fast to find out.

  • @1958johndeere620 i accutally just did that do mine today and am picking up a 366 spring on monday so hopfully it will help a lot

  • nice truck my buddy has same one that we are currently working on

  • the engine is fine, he knows what it is built for.and also Cummins built some tough stuff.

  • Is the 2WD or 4WD?

  • " W " means 4 wheel drive. A D250 would be a 2 wheel drive.

  • That's an awesome sounding and good lookin 1st gen cummins. I'd live to find that body style with a p-pump in it.

  • i like how the little guy said yea i had it all the way to 3 rpm lol i used to read tach's like that untill dad told me that it means theres 3 0's behind it. great truck!

  • Hey man you gotta start somewhere ;)

  • yea im pretty sure everyone read tachs like that at one time.

  • @6030diesel haha thats the way i used to read tachs too. cute kids, you can never start with the gearhead stuff too early

  • does anyone think a 1988 mack truck turbo would be able to customly fit on this truck?

  • Think the EGT's are getting a little high. i thought 1100 degrees are lil high.

  • 1100*F is safe. You should never go higher than 1250*F sustained, for instance pulling a long uphill grade. People run these engines to 1400-1500*F all the time in bursts without causing damage.

  • Great build. I love it how the boy asked why there wasn't any smoke. That's a good kid. And what kind of exuast do you have. It sounds like you left the muffler on. Great cummins though.

  • It has a kit from Stans Headers. Its a 4 inch system with a donaldson muff.

  • wow. that is awesome. it has great boost for being muffled

  • Its straight through, no back pressure.

  • @1958johndeere620 I am building a W250 and i have a few questions.

Is your isspro tack have an alternator pick-up? What does it use for signal? What do you think of POD injectors?

  • @Chadellac1 Sorry for the real late reply. It snuck by me. I have a crank sensor from isspro on the balencer. Pods are a cheap injector that will make maybe 20 to 40 more horses on a non intercooled truck. They work in intercooled trucks also but the spray pattern is not the best for those style pistons. They have a little higher pop pressure which retards timing some and also puts more stress on the pump.

  • man u get real hot real fast

  • haha my dad buys his trucks from dejana

  • I would love to have one of these older Dodge trucks with a cummins in it, Great video and what a great truck!

  • 36psi? lol thats alot..

  • Not really. My 93 has 44 psi and even that is low. There are trucks out there with 80psi plus.

  • that still has balls lol.. nice truck btw..

  • thats not that bad at all i figured it be screaming at 70

  • it looked like it was about 2500 rpm a t 55 man i would love to get a first gen in my hands

  • I think you will find that was in 2nd gear. I held it in 2nd for some of those shots. I know before I turned up the rpm's the truck would do around 75 at like 27 or 2800 rpm's. in 3rd gear.

  • so third is 1:1 whats your cruising rpm and mpg

  • Yes 3rd is 1 to 1. Mpg is around 14. Can get over 18 on a trip empty. Cruising rpm's, never really pay attention. I would have to watch the video to tell ya. LOL.

  • is that a 3 or 4 spd tranny

  • This is the 727 3 speed non lock up tranny. The 518 is the overdrive 4 speed that the 91.5's through 93's had.

  • got to start the kids early

  • what year powerstroke did you get the intercooler from?

  • I think mine was from a 2001 with the 7.3.

  • so would you suggest it, because i have the same truck.

  • Some say it is easier to put a 2nd gen dodge intercooler into a non intercooled truck and for an intercooled 1st gen ( 91.5 to 93 ) it is easier to put in the powerstroke unit. I like mine, it works good, but took a long time to make it fit.

  • yeah i have a 93 and i was looking to put a new intercooler into it. well thanks man for your help. i really appreciate it!

  • hahahahaa lol

  • Nice 1989 W250, I have the same color truck, but my is a 89 D350 dually with a 360 Getrag tranny..

  • very nice.

  • how do you adjust the Pump Screws? can you explain for me plz? i dont wanna mess anything up with my truck soo i wanna get some help from someone who knows what hes doing

    thanks

  • I would sugest you read up on a first gen forum. There is so much to it. I would read DTR or Cummins Forum. It is free to join and basically thats how I learned. It is easy to mess up the pump or engine if you do not do it correctly.

  • I've always admired the 6bt. 'Never been able to afford one though, and the ones I could were all junk. Well, the trucks were junked/worn out, not the engines of course! I'm not too familiar with high performance diesel, especially since I'm an IDI guy, but it looked like your EGTs were running close to 1400 degrees, yikes! I try and stay away from anything above 1050. Can a Cummins take higher temps? Great video! Your kids are a riot!

  • Yup, 1400 is pretty easy. My 93 which has a upgraded stock H1C gets even hotter. Cummins says no higher then 1250 sustained egt's. Basically when the truck is empty you can hold it wide open because when it gets to the point of burning it up your going so fast you have to back out. I could not tow with it and use all the power it makes. It would be toast on the first hill.

  • I got a 1992 with 370 marine injectors, s300 with a 12cm housing, im not going to list all the goodies but 1,600 degrees is the limit. My truck runs at about 1,200 degrees 24/7 just driving no load. So yes it can take higher than 1,000....thats almost a joke.

  • How does the 727 Tranny hold up for that much power?

  • So far so good. I don't put many miles on a year. I never tow with it.

  • Awesome... Nice truck btw ! Cummins power!

  • What brand gauge piller is that?

  • The pillar pod is an autometer. The tach mount is from isspro.

  • what did you have to do to the 727 you are running in it? I have a 90 dually I want to build a 727 tranny for.

  • Its a stock 727.

  • i bet you that 12v will last long enough for those kids to drive it around town

  • 0-60 in 5 secs? cool!

  • I think its more like 8. I wish it was 5. LOL.

  • I have an 89 3500, I love my first gen Cummins. I just wish I could figure out why my a/c quit. lol Where did you get all of your mods, and what do you mean by turning the pump screws? Thanks.

  • Well the turbo came from a diesel shop, the exhaust came from Stans Headers on the west coast. The powerstroke cooler came from a junkyard. The pump screws are hard to explain. There are a few screws you can turn for more power and rpm's. If yours is stock and unmolested then it has tamper proof caps on high idle and fuel screw. You should read up on power mods on a diesel web forum like DTR or Cummins Forum ect.

  • are they BFG all terrains you got on there?

  • Yup.

  • Dose your break and ABS light stay on in that truck?? looks like the were and i was wondering if you fixed and if you did, how so?!

  • Yes it does stay on. If you want it to go out you can take out the glove box and unplug the ABS controller. Then you take out the ABS unit thats mounted on the frame near the rear end. It takes a special fitting to mate up the brake lines once you take out the ABS unit. I have done it on my 93 when I replaced the brake lines due to rust.

  • that dosent mess with your brakes at all?

  • Makes them work like the ole days before ABS. And yes they will lock up if you get hard on the brakes. The abs controller is your foot,,,, the way it should be.

  • I was filling a few people in on the 47RE which apparantly people know little about. Lets just add that they were designed(the TF727) for use in cars so to stand up in trucks with 400+ ft lbs torque shows theyre are a good trans

  • The A518 is the 727 with an over drive unit, and to all the people bashing the 47RE (thats the auto tranny used in the second gen cummins) theyre are a 727 with a bigger torque converter and bell housing with a lockup torque converter and different clutches.

  • Thats what I said above.

  • I hope you got you another 727 already built waiting in the wings......you're gonna need it....lol

  • Im sure it won't last long. It pulls pretty hard. We will see.

  • if it was a C6 it will last forever!

  • I feel your pain. Hopefully my 4:88 gears will pay off.

  • What you could do is slap in an A518 automatic from a 1991-1993 Dodge Cummins Ram with torque converter and you won't have any problem with it. I'm just saying.

  • The a518 is the same as a 727. It just has an overdrive on the back. Strength wise they are the same. I plan to do that swap if one ever falls into my hands.

  • That would be cool. Don't even bother with the autos they used in 94-2002 dodge rams. Those were pieces of shit. I know someone who has one in a bone stock dodge and she uses it to pull horses around and its starting to go out. This will be her 2nd or 3rd tranny and its a 2001 i believe.

  • Actually the best upgrade for us is the 94 and 95 trannys. They are still the same as the older 518's but have the added feature of a lock up converter. If and I say "IF" they are done correctly they can handle some good power and also the lock up feature is real nice. The 94 and 5's are still a non electronic tranny so they are an easy swap.

  • oh really? Well i do know if done correctly they can be built to be strong

  • well ive had a different experience with those trannys. my dad had a 97 2500 that was used for towing its entire life. the owner hardly ever changed the fluids on it, and it was towing everyday, and above the weight limit. wen my dad bought it, it had over 200k miles, and despite having horrible fluid, it still drove okay. it wasnt perfect, but after my dad did the best he could to make it better, it wasnt a horribe tranny. so i think those trannys aint so bad after all.

  • Dude, your kids know this stuff now wait till their like 20 lol

  • a cummins with a nra sticker.. thats awesome.

  • hope my kids turn out to be like that. haha

  • Awesome kids.. "Right, Hope?" That's too funny.

  • Yup. They did that with out me telling them what to say. It was funny.

  • is the 727 automatic tranny a 3 speed direct? What's the top speed? about 75-80 mph?

  • Yes 3rd is 1 to 1. Stock settings provide about 75 or so. Mine will do about 100 now. Not sure cause speedo only goes to 85. With the rpm's I am turning it figures out to about a hundred.

  • it seems really quick

  • It goes well for a truck. It is slow as hell compared to a fast car. Its over 6000 pounds.

  • I heard that someone makes a transmission adapter for Cummins to Hydromatic if you wanted to get rid of the 727 for a TH400 or a 4L80 witch has a OD

  • I'm pretty sure advanced adapters has something for it. That's where I got everything to convert my old Chevy to Cummins.

  • That is a nice truck and dont let no one tell you anything else, there aint nothin better than a a cummins diesel

  • I love you.

    Thats the best comment ever.

  • Your kids know their stuff lol

  • I hope my little girl does that in a couple years haha

  • They love the smoke pedal

  • my girl is almost 2 years but everytime she see's the truck she goes nuts

  • nice truck i have a 91 250 with bigger turbo and turbo back exhaust but cant find any other aftermarket parts anywhere if you could help me out and tell me where to go i would appreciated it love the truck man

  • Hey nice truck! Building one very similiar. Did you install the tach? Where or what did you use to get its signal from?

  • The tach and pickup assembly is from isspro. If you look on there web site and open the PDF catalog you will find the tach and the magnetic pick up assembly. The early non intercooled first gens did not have the factory wire harness for a tach. The later trucks some late91's 92's and 93 had the crank sensor and computer.

  • The pick up assembly has 2 magnets that glue one the balencer and the pick up reads the rpm's by a 2 pulse per revolution.

  • o btw, nice job on that thing. looks like its been takin care of. love the sound of a turbo diesel.

  • Ya. it needs a paint job. It has the common flakey late 80's paint that the big 3 had. I don't drive it in the snow and salt so its not rotted. Thanks

  • thats what i'm talkin bout. those kids are bein raised right. wish my dad would have been a truck freak like i am. hes been on my case cause i just bought a turbo for my tacoma and hes harrassed me for every other dime i've put into the thing too lol.

  • Very sharp looking 1st gen! Gotta love em. Say, did that 4 inch exhaust come with a muffler? it sounds a little quieter then strait piped. It makes a nice deep tone though. Its what were planning to do on our 01 2nd gen.

  • Yes on muffler, Its a strait through donaldson but is very quiet.

  • Nice truck.I have a 93 extendd cab 4x4 3/4 ton w/ 3200 gov spring, tweaked pump, and thats that for the perf. part of it. Where did you get your tach and a-pillar guage pod at? I cant seem to find one. Also, what turbo are you running, and what performance things have you done?

  • I got the tach from Isspro. The pillar pod is from autometer. The turbo is a Borg Warner S300G. It is the 57mm unit not the big pricey one. Performance wise only Powerstroke intercooler, 4 inch exaust, S300G turbo, and regular pump tweaks.

  • Im crossy's son on the DTR forum. If you got a 366 3200 rpm spring that would seriously be the best upgrade. nice truck

  • I know ya. Im on there as well. Richie O. 3200 spring is on my list.

  • how much money have you put into this truck. Looks great man!! 5 stars

  • Thats between me and my dog and he ain't talking.

  • haha. nice truck!! having some problems with my 03 . thats why i ask how much is in it. not sure if putting money in it is worth it. or just get a new truck. wasnt trying to pry. Have fun with it!!

  • how is the torque flite 727 holdin up if its stock i recomend you get a torque converter and shift kit before you blow it i have the same truck but a year newer and i just blew up my tranny

  • Its been done once already. I have 2 89's and my other one finally blew also after 236,000 miles. This tranny has about 40,000 miles on it. I know its not going to last at these power levels but O well. Converter by Goerend is on the to do list for sure.

  • yea aparently if your idle is to high its really hard on the tail end of the tranny thats how mine ended up going it was at about 800-900 idle after i turned my pump up i never got around to turnin down the idle and i heard it was better with a lil higher idle but thats with the newer ones

  • Lol, damn, look at that...When the turbos spool up the black smoke goes bye bye. I love your effin truck man..

  • my favorite truck

  • Don't need stupid people posting dumb non related posts here. If you wanna chat and fight go some where else.

  • how much boost are u able to but through that engine?

  • At current fuel settings I run 35 pounds of boost.

  • Were the mods on your truck hard to do or easy? Or did you do them by yourself? Whatever it is it came out awesome, fast as hell, too! Keep up the good work on this truck.

  • The hardest mod was installing the ford powerstroke intercooler. It took 25 to 30 hrs. I have done all current mods myself. Once you get the pryo and boost gauges installed you can adjust the fuel using those as a guide on fuel settings.

  • Wow, and thank you for the wonderful info!

  • I am so in love with that truck already

  • is there much performance differnce between a turbo diesel and a normal turbo engine?
