i have some information for you, ice punch is a stab move, not a special attack move. it uses att stats, not special att. you can see this in the video, ice punch doesn't one hit ko dragonite, while dragonite is 4x weak against ice. GENGAR has to learn ice beam or blizzard, not ice punch. Ice punch should be used by pokemon like hitmonchan, machamp etc. If you don't believe me, try it out.

Thank you for telling me this. After looking at Diamond, Ice Punch has the physical attack attribute, and I was mistaken. Yes, you are right.

Although Ice Punch is a very effective strategy in this battle, if you want massive overkill, look for SPECIAL Ice moves for Gengar, since his stats tend to be higher in the Special Attack area.

@PowerToMario Useless comment is useless but anyways, ALL ice moves in gen 1,2 & 3 were specially based, so ice punch was a good choice on gengar :/

@muslumcu70 I think this message is slightly muddled - you can get STAB attack moves and STAB special attack moves - STAB stands for Same Type Attack Bonus, it's ntohing to do with pokemon type :P

@muslumcu70 What I mean is, it runs off Special attack still, because of it's type - they don't introduce physical special attacks until Generation 3. By my last comment, I mean that it has nothing to do with attack stat :P STAB means that if your pokemon is part ice, for example, then ice attacks will do 1.5x extra damage. STAB has nothing to do with whether an attack is physical or special, it affects all types :)

@muslumcu70 nonono, the elemental punches still run off special attack until 3rd generation onwards, generation 3 is when they introduced 'physical special' attacks :)

you need to get pokemon for a person in kanto. you will get the stone of the type of pokeon they want. for example, if you gave them an oddish, which is a grass type, they would give you a leaf stone

Well well well....it takes some real strategy to get to that, nice job PTM. Your team I wouldn't probably assemble mine the same way you did, but obviously you knew what you were doing. I learned a lot about your strategy type from this LP and I must say you are quite smart at it. Can't wait for more Pokemon.

Make sure you don't get Gyarados unless you plan to use him. There are more options than what I've shown. =P

Genius move with teaching Ice Punch to Gengar. Coupled with the Hypnosis and his high speed (and its invulnerability to Hyper beam), it definitely was MVP here. Congrats on your victory! As Morbo once said, "May death come swiftly to your enemies!"
