If you use the night shot preset and pop up the flash then yes. Otherwise you will have to manually dial in the camera settings to achieve a slow sync flash.
OK, TNX 4 the info. Out of interest this is a later version. Because they basically sold me a body & a separate lens but as a kit deal (Boxed separately) I got the SMC Pentax DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II Lens. So this one is supposed to have the dust seals in it. (MK2 model even). Although I got an open box for the body (Glass cabinet, Displayed since Saturday we saw them putting it last visit). But for $615 I can't complain. Some stores wouldn't go below $670.
Thanks dude! I'm wanting to buy one of these this week. And your review is much better than any of the professional ones I have watched! Well done!. Do you know if it has bad pixel mapping built in? Also the best price I have found in Australia is $609. Know any better deals? .-.-.
Yep! It does have Pixel Mapping. Don't know where you could find a better price though, I'm not in AU, keep looking though, that magic deal is out there somewhere!
Thanks Kris, Hey I hope your around. I need a quick reply on this. I'm about to go and buy one. There all just about sold out in my area. $590 with SIgma 18-50mm or $670 with Pentax 18-55mm is there any real difference between these two lenses? Am I better off saving the money and getting the Sigma lens?
I'm pretty sure there is no real difference between the two lenses, but honestly I'm not sure. Either lens should be sufficient, I'd recommend the Pentax lens but if you want to save a few bucks and you will probably not notice the difference then get the Sigma.
HI Kris, thanks for that. The DA pentax lense focuses faster and is dust proof apparently. I just got a better deal of $615 and I'm going to go grab it now. THat's with the Pentax lens. Only thing is the body has been in their display cabnet. But hopefully that's OK. I can't see anyone mucking around with just a body only unit. I would have prefered a boxed one, but I guess there are very few left so I have to be quick. Otherwise I'd have to consider a POS K-M. ;) .-.-.
Sure no problem, always glad to help out, after all that's why I posted the video! Yeah, the Pentax 18-55 is a good kit lens, I still use mine regularly. It's not dust proof, only lenses with the DA* designation are, but as long your careful (face camera down) when changing lenses you should have no problems.
If I had of known they were selling out and that the new K-M model was so crappy sooner I would have got in quicker. But at least I got one. Thanks again. I'm sure I will have more questions yet, like how do I stop the flash from popping up in AUTO modes? :)
Simple, switch to another mode, such as the one with the Flash symbol crossed out or use one of the semi automatic modes! In AUTO, the camera will automatically use the flash whenever it feels the need to do so.
Hey Kris! I have the K200 for 6months now. Thanks for your review and answering my questions before. What lens do you have or planning to get? Am planning to get 43 1.9 and 70 2.4 primes for portraits and also the Tamron 90mm for macro. Kinda partial to the primes which forces me to consider compositions exposure etc..DO you have a flicker?
It's the menu system, scroll all the way down till you find it, I think it's called Dust Removal or something like that. I don't have the camera in front of me right now, if you still don't get it comment back later as I shall have the camera then.
hey great video man helps alot...i just got this camera and its great!!! just a quck question...how do i change the camera to continuous shot mode?? like if i wanna take pictures of kids or during a hockey game and the features ud recommend?? thanks alot
Very nice video tour Kris! I'm thinking of buying this as my first DSLR, just curious about one (stupid) thing - how do you take the lens off the camera? I tried a Nikon D80 in a shop and it had a release button next to the lens, does this work like it?
Well that depends on how much you already know about photography. If you know what shutterspeed, aperture, and ISO are then I don't see a problem with anyone using this camera.
You're the first american who pronounced nikon correctly! hehe... Anyways, I'm gonna get my first DSLR I have narrowed down my selection with the K200d and the sony A200. The reviews say that the JPEG output of the k200 is underexposed and too sharp. Do you have to consistently tweak all your shots or you can save a setting for the camera to fallow so you wont have to fiddle with it and just go on with shooting? What about the slow autofocus in low light conditions. Is it really that slow?
One of the great things about the K200D is that you can fine tune the JPEG output parameters exactly to your liking or you can use one of the available presets. Normally I use the natural preset which provides just that, a natural image, then I usually add a little contrast/saturation/sharpness to suit my needs for the particular photo or you can of course shoot RAW. The AF is not as slow as some people make it seem, it's actually pretty quick in low light, in normal or good light it's very fast
Image tone set to natural in camera and then post process on the computer. In digital photography you will have to post process to get the best possible image quality, it's a digital darkroom.
Well I have never owned the Canon 450D or Nikon D80 so I can't really say. I chose the Pentax system because it offers what I need for the prices I want.
Hi.I've just bought a Pentax k200d and I have a little problem. The monitor won't turn on.I mean I can see the pictures I took, but the image I can see through the viewfinder does not appear on the monitor so that I can check the composition before taking the picture.I.m probably doing something wrong, but I don't know what.I would appreciate it if you replied.Thank you!
hey....thanks for the video...it was really great.....btw i am purchasing the k200D and its my 1st dslr.....so cud u also post a video of lens removal and attachment please???
I really would like to do that but I do not want to risk getting dust on the sensor but essentially the process is the same as every SLR past and present.
You just press a button on the front of the body and twist the lens on. Then to mount it you simply put it in its place and twist it on.
Hey! Great vid! I bought pentax k200d 3 weeks ago and it's just great. And for a great price too (body, pentax 18-55 lens and Tamron 70-300mm lens for 600€).
The K20D mainly has a higher resolution sensor, a penta prism viewfinder, more dedicated buttons and controls, a intervalometer, and faster continuous FPS among other things.
I got it yesterday afternoon.. So far I like it except I find the colour to be flat compared to the little Powershot A80 i used to use. Maybe somefine tuning, but in autopict mode, colours are not really vivid. Still got to make some readings.
That's great to hear! Maybe it's finally the time to buy Pentax. I've have had a terrible time deciding what will be my first DSLR. But maybe now i have found just the camera for me. Thanks once again!
Great vid indeed! This vid helped me alot to choose Pentax as my first DSLR. Very good fast review. How is your Pentax working nowadays? Any problems? I would like to hear about them if there are any:) And sorry about my english, i'm from Finland:D
Thanks! No problems whatsoever! The camera is working great and just as well as when I bought it. I've shot about 2,500 pictures already in about 1 1/2 months. Don't worry I understand you perfectly, your English is very good. =D
Great vid Kris, you were right about not being eligible for the rebate, Amazon also lowered the price on us by $50.00 I guess that's what we get by being the first on our blocks with one. :)
Great vid! I was wandering...does this camera have a slow sync flash mode?

Hello kris, can u tell me if the pentax lens da 18-55 is weather sealed??
arfannnn 3 years ago
No, it is not. Only lenses with the DA* designation are sealed.
kris1991 3 years ago
Thank you very much, what can you tell me if I won't to shot with this camera moving objects ( like kids, or animals)?
arfannnn 3 years ago
It's definitely fast enough to shoot kids and animals. Although in lower light you may want to consider a faster lens (f/2.8, f/1.8,etc.)
kris1991 3 years ago
how do you think this camera would work for someone who has never used a dslr before?

Well that depends on how much you already know about photography. If you know what shutterspeed, aperture, and ISO are then I don't see a problem with anyone using this camera.

The K200D does not have live view so you cannot compose pictures using the LCD monitor on the back, you must use the viewfinder.
