  • its a 1.5litre, twin supercharged, V16, that was revving out to beyond 11000 rpm in the 1950's. the quality of the sound is like no other engine, and you have no idea how loud it is unless you've heard it at full cry.

I had to shout in my friends ear, when it was at full throttle, at the other side of goodwood racetrack, i.e about 1 mile away! It makes Concorde sound rather quiet!

  • Jesus!! Gots to get me one of those.....

  • Holy shit,it's the Stig's V16 racing brother in black suit!

  • That's an awesome sound! =D

  • Boy :) the modern Judd V-8s sound like this!

  • what an epic sound!

  • Wow these cars are like the Spitfire of the car world..

  • I just got the cd The sounds of goodwood and oh my god the sound from this car is very like a F1 no shit and it is a 1.5litre 12000 rpm engine made over 50 years ago Hell yeah

  • i was at the revival for the 2008 meet and it caught fire but oh the noise was spectacular what a scream and never ran properly at all and i asked what fuel it runs on i t runs on acetone petrol and alcohol what% of each i don't know i wasn't toled

  • Not a bad day out for a petrol head! I've only been to the Festival of Speed on two occasions, but I've thoroughly enjoyed both times. Getting close to the cars (and drivers) in the paddock after seeing them run up the hill is a definite highlight. I'd love to go to the Revival, too...

  • i wish these cars were on the track agian

  • Seriously... I wish all race cars sounded like this thing. I would watch soo much more motorsports if they did.

  • they should start a new type of league for cars of different ages.

  • there is probably some sort of league like that that already exists somewhere in the world, its just not known enough maybe

  • one of the best motor racing engines ever made, suffered from unreliability as it was so ahead of its time.

  • Superb engine!!! It's a 1500 cc no?

  • Yes, that's right! Found data saying 600bhp @ 12.000rpm...

  • Yeah, Supercharged V16 1490cc. About 600 HP

  • what are you talking about 1490 cc's?. cc is cubic centimeter and im damn sure a v16 is more than 1490 seeing that ive ridden bikes with almost the same size motor as a 1490cc

  • 1490 cc, It's a Formula-1 you know. Small cylinders

  • engines are only as big as you make them the amount of cylinders is irrelevent - this one had a supercharger pushing about 75psi

  • That's true..but god damn 75 psi...thats a lot of pressure. The engines were built with strong metal i suppose...

  • mate im not being a smart ass or nuthing but 75PSI!!!!???? i think u mite hav ur facts wrong there.... only the best superchargers these days can reach that!

  • google it my friend you'll be as impressed as i am. modern top fuelers run far in excess of 100psi.

  • yes key word MODERN!....

    not ancient sleds

  • yeah but they weren't running anywhere near as efficiently back then, nor using such advanced fuels as now. early forced induction was all about extremes of pressure. you should see what they were running in the old aircraft. mental stuff. the blitzen benz was a 21.5L four cylinder and that was 1909. still only 200hp. do some research you'll be pretty impressed i'm sure

  • yes i did hav a look nd wow i am very impressed!

sorry mate i stand corrected. thats pretty amazing!

i dont really get to work with that stuff mainy just diesels and turbo diesels (as im a diesel mechanic)

  • cool i'm a light vehicle mechanic myself. you'd know all about ridiculous pressures, i'm still astounded how high the fuel injection pressures are in modern diesels. mental stuff. not to mention they're kicking arse at lemans.

  • well yeh diesels these days are so much further advanced than nealy any type of engine out....

i stil see the mazda rotary engine as the most amazing...

  • This engine ran at 5.7 bar, which is 82.7 PSI of supercharged boost... so there is merit in the statement. This motor truly is amazing, especially considering it was made in the late 40's and early 50's.

  • that is magnificant. sounds well tuned as well

  • Those 16 cylinder BRM engines rock!!

  • HA HAAA!

    Amazing!
