I was disenchanted by the church at an early age, when I was sent to a Missouri Synod Lutheran school. What they taught and what they practiced was very conflicting, even to the point of being hypocritical. It was difficult to be there, since they didn't approve of me questioning their dogma, but I did, and over time developed my own beliefs.
Today I go to a Unitarian Church. We have members who are Christian, Pagan, Buddhist, atheist, agnostic, Taoists, etc.
We learn about all religions and aren't pushed to follow any one in particular. We can be independent individuals, believing in what is right for each individual.
Our common ground is humanism... helping others and caring for the world around us. THAT's what I attracted me to it... the good works. Every year, we build a habitat house. We house, feed and clothe the needy.
Every summer, my church sends a delegation to Guatemala to give scholarships to Mayan kids so they can complete their education through high school. We adopt trails, help the elderly, provide child care, help people find jobs, serve meals on wheels, and more. We care. I'm proud to be a Humanist Agnostic with Christian Foundations and Educational perspectives on a spectrum of faiths, incorporating those aspects that enhance my moral creed.
