  • I know this is late, but you guys realize the terrible irony that the same forces that fight your gas platforms are also fighting the wind turbines. Cape Wind isn't going up any time soon and neither are the gas platforms.

  • Pre BP Spill propaganda...

  • How long will the natural gas project take to pay back its greenhouse gas emissions or "footprint"? Oh, that's right, never.

  • @spernoadversa

Wind operates the WTG's. The clues in the name. The oil is used to lubricate the gearbox, and hydraulic systems. A siemens 3.6mw turbine uses about 750 litres of gearbox oil. Each turbine has a massive carbon footprint from its production and maintenance, so it would take years to pay that back. Take into consideration all the CO2 used to get each technician from home to the site daily. They constantly break down. I've just left the industry-on good terms, I'm not sure about

  • How about you operate these wind turbines without natural gas , oil or coal . Put a bunch of solar panels somewhere and use the energy from that source to operate these windmills. I wonder why they haven't done something like that yet .

  • The IER is a front for the Koch Brothers.

  • IER is funded by ExxonMobil, so this is clearly oil industry promotional propaganda. Robert Bradley (IER's Director) used to be the speechwriter for criminal and former Enron CEO Kenneth Lay. Google "Robert Bradley IER." Imagine the lies this immoral man was okay with writing? He now uses IER to support the oil industry's agenda while ignoring what will happen if we continue to release greenhouse gases. Oh, and the risk for another oil or natural gas disaster? NOT WORTH IT!

  • Why not just have both?

  • This video is excellent, but comparing the cost of NG vs. wind fueled electricity, the producers fail to recognize the value of inventory and associated "on demand" production the NG technology offers. Even more "readctive power" will be needed if we add more weather based power, so a cost comparison between wind and natural gas isn't really possible. It's like comparing the cost per mile of owning a lemon automobile vs. a reliable one. Cost per mile is one thing. Dependability is another.

  • A very well made video! I wish we could get more like this for other issues.

  • how many birds will be killed by the natural gas platform vs how many from a wind farm as big as Rhode Island?

  • Golly Gee Whiz, this wind farm could actually be a reality if it weren't for the leftist's like the Kennedy's and liberal Chowds who opposed it because it was unsightly...Talk about hypocrites. Talk a good game but when it comes time to put up they just whither away. Can you imagine what an unsightly mess it would make when the wind farm rusts away into a mass of corroded steel because there's no lubricants to keep them spinning because we're afraid to drill?? JUST DRILL IT!! Peace, Love

  • Wind Farms, another lefty pipe dream. Can't produce enough electricity to light a night lite.

  • How long til that platform runs out of natural gas? And how long til we run out of wind?

  • @AftermarketCRX

That's like saying, "Let's start generating electricity from dirt, we've got tons of it!"

The life expectancy of wind turbines is expected to be 20 years, and many gas fields produce far beyond that. You have to consider that the actual turbine generates the electricity -- it's not like we can just open the window and have the breeze cook our dinner.

  • @qerplonk

Same thing with solar power. Yes, the sun may be sustainable (til it becomes a dwarf star..) but sun ENERGY is not. We cannot absorb the sun unless we stand in its rays, and we can't grow food from it to eat unless we know where to plant. Likewise we cannot get electricity from it unless we know how. And currently, the market suggests we don't. So to waste all of our resources on inefficient technology isn't sustainable. It's the opposite. We couldn't sustain anyone but billionaires.

  • @guyjohn59 That's right. I keep hearing the argument "well we've got to support them until they are able to run on their own." That's like the parents making excuses about their 35 year old son who still lives at home. What's the time window here? The first solar cell was created in 1883 and the first wind turbine came around in 1888. There are simply things out there that are better at creating energy, and wind and solar will n-e-v-e-r match up. Period.

  • @qerplonk They'll never match up to what the real industries could have been, absent politics; but with politics, they could unfortunately become much "cheaper". If politicians say that coal, oil, etc. have to pay Earth back (to the government) for using her resources, then wind, solar, etc. could unfairly and wastefully become cheaper. Even if the politicians leave legitimate industries alone, but subsidize the "green" ones, same thing. People will say "told you so!", when they really can't.

  • @guyjohn59 Haha I never thought about it that way, but you're right. The government wants us to pay the Earth back through them. What a ridiculous scam. I think people are going to wisen up -- after all, it seems hardly anyone talks about hydrogen or ethanol any more.

  • I see that those who disagree provided no facts, so it proves they are just biased.

  • this isnt an eye opener... this is bs

  • Great video we need to tell the truth. Thank You for just presenting the facts. Can we make every Senator and Congressman see this. O I forgot Washington is ina brain free zone where common sense does not rule. Thank You for your research. !

  • I work in the gulf of mexico on every oil and gas platform has been making thier own electric power for decades off of natrual gas. It is proven and if the oil companies where to get into making electricity for the rest of us the cost would be lower because they all ready have to much n gas.

  • It is what most of us know or guess or think! WE NEED TO GET RID OF THE REAL problem the dirt bags and traitors in Washington. They are selling us out and charging us for doing it.

  • Well since when is the Govt worried about cost efficiency? They dont think but just do as their pupputeers tell them to do.

  • When O When will people learn. Wind is so limiting its ridiculous. Add in the thousands of products N.Gas produces (not just energy) and it makes wind look like a joke! Sigh...politicians who support wind are ridiculous hypocrites. Good Job IERDC finally someone telling it as it really is!

  • Hopefully people will see that wind power is not the real energy that we get from NG. Wind power is energy spawl using massive amounts of land or ocean. 7700 turbines vrs. one NG drill off the coast of my state, NC? I will take Natural Gas any day! DRILL! Obama has been led to believe that wind energy works, which is equal to believing that pigs will fly.

  • @ridgeprotector An eue opener!

  • The DC Socialist corrupt government knows that energy is just as important to our economy as money. They already taken control or our money through taking over banks, businesses, health care and higher taxes . Now through "crap and trade" and prohibiting offshore gas and oil drilling they will gain total control of our country and our liberty.

  • I am a big supporter of more drilling, especially for NG. But the comparisons drawn in this video are ridiculous enough to lead me to believe the authors don't understand the subject material.
