Why is it so bad to spend money on reborns? People spend stupid amounts on designer clothing, sports cars, train sets, stamps, rare breeds of dogs etc.
Whats sad is when a reborn takes away from 'life'.. Some Women become obsessed, and bathe them everyday, and waste 5-6 hrs daily caring for a pile of silicone. Women become emotionally attached, then feel BAD if they dont care for the 'life like' doll. A hobbyist doesnt pretend their items are real. A hobbyist can walk away from their collection without feeling they r leaving a human. Many mums put their re-born b4 their own kids. Reborns are fine as long as they stay a hobby.
I'm 43 now, and my 4 (real) kids are grown up. We have a wonderfull relationship, but I have so many 'nursing' hormones left! I have my pets and baby animals every year at springtime - lambs, foals etc - but still... I really yearn for a baby in my arms. So after 2 years of thinking I finally bought a reborn doll and he makes me very happy! That feeling of a baby in my arms... it's so relaxing for me and my hormones :-D
I think the dolls do look a little creepy but I can understand how the woman loves the babies. I think Dr Phil is being rude and the comedian is picking on her pretty harshly. She is trying to make the lady look crazy when she really isn't AND she is acting like a tattletale.
So what if she puts diapers on them and so what if she creates them and "plays" with them and pretends they are babies, to be honest people are making these reborns and selling them for over $100,000 and even more sometimes. I put diapers on my reborns and i make them does that make me a crazy psychotic weirdo?! no it don't. Why bother sending that woman out to peoples houses and criticizing what they love to do? just my opinion...
Obviously the woman on the right never played with dolls as a child and does not collect anything. The collector KNOWS they're dolls and doesn't treat them like real children. She just enjoys collecting different looking dolls. A lot of people do that. Just because they're more realistic looking than your average baby doll doesn't make the collection "creepy" or "obsessive".
i have 3 of these dolls set of male and female twins and another boy but they were presents and i dont bother much with them the price of these dolls is crazy id rather spend the money on a good holiday with my real human friends

I make reborns for a hobby~to me they are just very lifelike collectable unique dolls~I dont cuddle them etc they're just posed~(like ornaments)~But then people have been collecting dolls in various forms for generations reborns are just the next modern collectable~
In regards to those people who do cuddle their dolls~Each to their own~they arent hurting anyone~therefore others should leave them alone~personally I enjoy making reborns~but am not interested in treating them as if they were real.
Don't you think it's weird that we're criticizing realistic dolls when we allow our sons and daughters to play with grossly exaggerated representations of the male and female forms that create unrealistic expectations and body image issues? Let's get our priorities straight.

i think they are a wonderful idea, and definitely a hobby, these women are not crazy! most of them look like grandmothers who miss having their children/grandchildren and for them it's more lifelike than a photograph of the babies they once had.

You have to put diapers on the baby it makes the butt feel more real and it makes the baby more realistic. Besides you have put diapers on anatomically correct boys or you will see them through the clothes.
that commedian is being very rude!! I am an artist myself (painting, and jewelry making) and I spend as much time and money on both as she has with dolls. Only difference is the type of media being used to represent your artistic expression. I'm sure some people have a serious prob. with these things, but that nice woman is an artist.... if that rude guest had any type of significant artistic talent then she would understand that!

I love dolls, I always have since I was a kid, I only like baby dolls and the ones that look most real, I have 6 kids and always thought it would be nice to have a doll that looked liked each one of them from when they were little that I could display like pictures, a moment I will never get back again, you can't get that from a picture.

I collect reborns and am getting another one which will make me have 2! The REALISTIC reborns range from 200-2000! Some are 2000 and don't even look real though! Sometimes the best are $200-300.

I think it is so sad that people can't really see the advantages that they have on the community as a whole. They do no harm and only bring good. Agreed, why don't they go adopt a baby or volunteer at foster homes. There are plenty of babies/children out there who need love. But these ppl rather look like and idiot with a doll and spend rediculous abouts of money on it. Something is WRONG with that seriously.
