It's not very clear but those children must be hers. We know Demelza only has brothers of whom Sam is the eldest and Drake the youngest. This scene makes it look like they are Tom's children also.
That's why Winston Graham hated the first half of the first series. He wasn't happy with how they changed Ross and Demelza's early relationship. I don't blame him. He wrote it so beautifully and they stomped all over it. He complained but there was nothing he could do.
I never knew why the series has Demelza cast out by Ross after their tryst, when the book has them marrying quietly afterwards. The book version gave them a much better relationship overall than the series does, and that's the only flaw I see in it, but the series is still totally delightful
