I wonder how it would have gone in a street fight situation? Kagawa seemed to be the smallest of the japanese but he has tremendously powerfull kicks which he didnt utilize....but he did very good anyway
unless you have been a ref you wont know how hard it is to call some of the shots between two very fast karateka iam ref in my style and yes you do get it ronge some time but we dont have the addvantage of a replay. in this vid it was very close and i would have given some points diferent to this ref but it depends what they like to see.we like to see true form ie a striaght punch both feet on the floor not over streching to reech the target good balance and so on both sides laket in these areas
You're right that it's really difficult to judge kumite. But really often, the judging is not good or biaised. An ex-champion will have an advantage against a newcomer simply because he "should" be better. Things like that.
Si alguna vez existió un kumite deportivo verdaderamente bueno, en el cual se nota karate y kime, fueron los de la JKA. Arriba el karate tradicional!!!!
Yes, it's hard to judge who wins. In Shotokan rule, Japan is the strongest and how do you think it? You probably think no. Yes, that's only a touch game. In a real combat, I'll bet Germany. Japanese Shotokan Karatekas just win thanks to the referee.
The only thing I'm agree with you is that this is just a game. Central referee seemed a little bit weird, but Japan was better than germany in the three fights they won. And in a real combat, I'll bet Japan for a lot of these guys. But if you don't like this, nothing oblige you to watch this video.
Yes, I may not come to this video as you say. But I wanted to let foreigners know Shotokan is not all in Karate. I'm worried if they believe Karate is not effective to a real combat. That Kumite style was created by Nakayama, pupil of Funakoshi and that was far away from Okinawan original style. Real Karate is effective and one hit one kill, believe me!
lyoto machida is a shotokan point fighting champion and hes also the UFC's light heavy weight champion. Nothing wrong with shotokan to me. this "touch" game gives you crazy timing and speed.
i'm fed up with hearing about machida. shotokan's excuse is always machida. shotokan produces machida only and his style is no longer shotokan. he mastered other martial arts and created his style. if you fight in the UFC, you can't fight like him.
@toki1221 im fed up of hearing from morons like you, search for craig burke on youtube, he was a WKF (karate point scoreing) champion, he had his first professional mma fight a few weeks ago and won by KO in 5 seconds, so shut the fuck up, karate is effective
@toki1221 We should be happy that one man proves to the world that Shotokan is effective. Its about damn time we get credibility. I embrace the fact he is a good fighter. even if he lost recently, and his style is still shotokan, he still moves like us therefore it is us. The grabs techniques are all there, you see it preformed in all Katas we have. And he just applies it to his opponents and proves it to the real world. So embrace it, who cares if hes the poster boy for Shotokan Karate!
@shotojojo1986 low guard, jumping step, no contact without full power, no gedan-geri, etc how can pure shotokan fighter fight in a real combat? talk is cheap. just do it.
Shotokan is about avoiding contact, so I wonder why they don't block better?

Gotta say good spirited matches, but not too impressed with the judging.

If it was 1983 then it would be West Germany. Since the Real Germany was in the East.
