  • you dipshits eric respected gary as a guitar player when eric couldn't play for george harrison he reccomended gary moore to play look it up

  • I admire Clapton but I do not like this version. Gary Moore plays and sings it much better. Does not sound anywhere close to the original.

  • There is a great deal of great guitar players gary was one of them the reason hendrix has always been # 1 is because thhe guitar was like another arm it took no effort for jimi he was a natural guitar player, a great guitarist and i'm sorry i forgot his name went on to say that there won't be another hendrix in his lifetime

  • @dictator54

Eric Clapton is quoted as having said about Jimi Hendrix "You never told me he was THAT fucking good."

  • gav try to play this in that emotion.. gary inst better just different and also (most of his time) borring Eric can play every note right, but for that you must be a musician to understand this

  • Hearing this for the first time, and i'm thinking, this is a true sincere and heartfelt Tribute from one legend to another. Its a very tasteful way to do it. If he had of tried to do an exact copy, it may have looked like he was either showboating, or not doing the tune justice, however it's hard to please everyone.

  • @Retromantra Well said Retro!

  • R.i.P Robert William Gary Moore.

  • I've seen both Gary Moore and Eric Clapton play live on many many occasions, and they are BOTH masters of their genré of music.

  • why is every one saying Eric is shit, so fuck its the thought that counts, im happy that people still care a bout Gary, thank you Clapton Gary will be proud!

  • Gary :( almost a year ago :(

  • @gugusfu I know ... I was just thinking about that last night ... and I cried again. What an amazing guitar player...so many beautiful notes that he left with us...I can only hope that I leave ANYTHING as a Guitar Player that moves people enough to remember me the way we remember Gary...only Heaven knows

  • I think it's so cool that gary played with cream (BBM) and covered Erics music and now that he's gone Eric covered Garys music....

  • very simply a tribute from one master to another...

  • hope i never found his tribute to gary moore.and i just want to see him play this when gary was still alive !!!, i lost my trust to EC now !!. RIP Gary Moore !

  • RIP Gary Moore. As Good As Hendrix.

  • @HatedByMostOfficial better in other's opinion

  • Thank you Eric.So appropiate, sober and so clean.

  • much prefer garys version.Gary had fire he played with balls Parisienne Walkways i cant say anything clapton did knocks you off your feet.Gary was rock Blues shredder metal as well and jazz very versatile pity eric didnt acknowledge what a great guitarist gary was by inviting him to play

  • EC, GM and "slowhand" are the three of the best guitar players.

    wbr veijo from finnland

  • @stadilainen46 EC (Eric Clapton) is Slowhand!!!!

  • nice tribute

  • Why is Clapton doing this? He did nothing BUT slag off Gary Moore when Moore took up playing the blues. What a cynical, two-faced d**k Clapton is for doing this - and doing it so badly.

  • When u think about it Spens, Clapton is a Grandad of electric guitar when Gary Moore is ALL the finest points of what I ever aspired to be & although Gary could "play" the blues, he is UNDENIABLY SO MUCH MORE than the "slag" as you say, that is being passed off as "the blues" these days~when kids like John Meyer can come on the scene in the "90's" sounding like I did when I was 16, we have a time warp problem here people...create something NEW and stop beating "the blues" to death

  • EC's recurring dream is being Gary Moore...then he wakes up and discovers he is human after all! :((

  • Thanks for your comment. I did preface my comment by stating that Gary was possibly a better technical player than EC. As you say......it is a personal viewpoint but

my opinion is that EC's compositional skills are on a different plane to Gary Moore's.

I am a Gary Moore fan & have everything that he has released......my criticism of GMs playing is that he often over plays.

  • I agree with that tunefultony to a large degree in that being a Guitar player myself of over 40 years, I have seen & done it all & along my path in Life I've picked up the ability to Produce...being a music Fan as well as a player, I often times just LISTEN objectively...and what I hear MOST of the time is, as you say, over and/or nervous playing but then again, there's something to be said about spontaneity...Wish I could have Produced Gary just once~Sweet Dreams are made of this

  • This is a nice version by Clapton, he did it his own way instead of simply doing a cover, which is really what blues players do... it's common to hear many different arrangements of songs. I'm sure he could have done a great electric version if he had wanted to. Gary could lay back too, it was just his style to inject more rock energy into his playing, people saying he didn't have the feel for blues... really? I think he did. Clapton can play blazing lead too, he's just got a laid back style.

  • How could there even be 8 dislikes for this...what is wrong with people who can dislike a fine tribute by the Eric Clapton to Gary Moore? EC-you are timeless and I have appreciated you from the 60s up until today. I'm glad you are a happy man now! God Bless You, Slowhand!

  • R.I.P Gary,vermisse Dich!!!

  • Awesome.

  • Thanks for posting this man - superb... The keyboard player can do it as well. Great musicians, great song. God Bless Gary.

  • Awesome version, it's great to hear good muso's put their own spin on well known songs.

  • Never been a Claptout fan,This video confirms why.

  • @Dogslow I urge you to listen to Clapton on Little Wing by Sting......all the way through

  • WOAW!!! I LIKE THE NAZI STYLE BACKDROP.. ROGER WATERS DID SAY THAT MODERN ROCK CONCERTS OWE MORE TO THE NUREMBERG RALLIES THAN MUSIC. I THINK HES RIGHT

  • nice one E C... respect.

  • R.I.P Gary - U was the greatest Blues man ! *Tears in my eyes*

  • Why can't we respect that EC and Gary are/were two very different people/players

? EC is awesome, Gary was awesome.

And for all you 'experts' that feel the need to pass judgement on Clapton. how do you know that Gary was never invited to Crossroads? How do you know that EC never tried to play with him in the past? You don't, so why not stop all the crap and just focus on the music!

  • @scottyluvsguitar I know he never asked him because Gary said so in an interview, sit down and stop talking crap, it's well documented that Clapton never gave Moore the credit he deserved.

  • @masterofscotland

    Where is the interview?

  • @scottyluvsguitar i think those words go for the rest of us in the world ...Haters just fuckoff....Simple.!!

  • @scottyluvsguitar Reverand!

  • I am blue for Willie Big Eyes.. its been 3 days, shytown has had 3 dark days in a row. and I mean dark. Its for Willie, we all will miss him. a great blues man, a big hearted great VIP. dammit its sad.

  • Way too many opinions listed here!! Moore and Clapton both brilliant! This is a fitting tribute, and by paying tribute to Master Moore EC has gone up in my estimation!

  • Theres no way Eric could have matched Gary if he had done this song on the electric guitar, very wise Mr Clapton!

  • @gav25x yes but eric sure can play a great solo. a beginning a middle and an end. as i said they are all great and fantastic and i know they all respect each other.

  • @gav25x bullshit. i love gary moore, but everyone knows clapton did things to a guitar that no-one else could or has

  • Comment removed

  • @optimuskgb What things were those?

  • @optimuskgb What things are those? I'm curious honestly.

  • @optimuskgb Sorry, that's just not true and you obviously cannot answer what those things were. Clapton is a great player but so was Gary Moore, so is Dave Gilmour, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Paul Kossof, Martin Barre, Mark Knopfler and dozens of others. If anyone could do things different, it was Hendrix.... So what were those things again optimuskgb???

  • @gav25x r u a guitar player?

  • Like the idea of Clappers honouring Gary..

Good thing he didn't even try to do it electric......

  • OK, so it is not the most technically accomplished video ever made but the sentiment is there and brilliantly so. EC and Gary appreciated each others talent as blues men and this, as a tribute, is very touching. I think Gary would have approved, and why not? One of the worlds greatest guitarits playing a song in your memory? I can only hope for that when I die.someone will play as well as this at my wake.

  • fairly tiring stuff

  • It's nice to see one of the greats playin tribute to Gary it shows that Gary touched many hearts with his music even the greats. B.B.King as his brother Albert showed there appreciation of Gary's talent when he was alive by playing with him and showing the fans that they were in awe of Gary's lightning playin.RIP G. MOORE

  • @dictator54 Albert King was not related to B.B. King in any way, shape or form...

  • @themikeaustin We all brothers !

  • A great musician, will be sadly missed but his music will live on for ever! RIP Gary

  • Great...RIP Gary...

  • Corrrection ! Gary was influenced by the blues from a young age, hence the Peter Green connection. He also supported Rory G when they where both unknowns. Gary did venture into Rock but so did Eric with Cream. Please do not be mistaken Gary was at heart a BLUES player !

  • Gary Moore could play many types of genres in music, and it's nice Eric Clapton played this but I have to say Bonanassa doing Midnight Blues was a highlight for me, also the version with Gary's son Jack and Joe together was beautiful. Joe can play anything, blues, jazz, rock etc I can listen to some of his songs dozens of times over and over and not tire of them, can't say that about too many others. But it's not a contest, personal taste, these guys are all great!

  • Well I love this version, it is what Eric is like now. I respect that! If you want a young guitar God to pay tribute to Gary then listen to Joe Bonamassa's tribute~ Midnight Blues~ from Hong Kong, which is awesome! Both players are paying their respects in their own way!

  • Gary Moore was a great player BUT didn't have the touch of a great blues players. There is a reason why Clapton is where he is in the pantheon. Also Gary and Eric played a different type of music. Gary was informed by rock i.e. Thin Lizzy. Clapton by blues i.e. Blues.

  • @fireblossom2u

Agree, GM was a good player but his blazing licks and rapid fire pentatonics didn't do it for me. That's why I don't like Bonamassa, Jimmy Page or Rory Gallagher either. All great players, just not to my taste. Wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same thing?

  • @chooseyourblues "blazing licks and rapid fire pentatonics" is a gross understatement and somewhat of an insensitive description of Gary Moore's playing my friend...the "Heart" and "Tenderness" in so many of his so sweetly placed notes are what tell the Story of Gary Moore's Artistic Legacy...

  • @PAXTV999

Not as far as I'm concerned. As great a Rock player as he was he never moved me like others. Gary was alway just 'too much' for my taste.

  • To wonnthree,That's BulSh*t, EC was not trying to imitate but pay respect and tribute to a a very great artist. So u R sorry indeed.

  • im sorry..but..BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • @wonnthree ..well I think you summed up..in what you think...

  • Nothing against The Old Slowhand, very decent that he made this tribute, but I prefer the original. It's a shame that Gary Moore was so underrated, the guy could play literally everything from Jazz/Rock,Latin,Blues,Celtic/Rock or shred the living crap out of a guitar if he wanted. Not to mention he influenced so many great players from all genres.R.I.P.

  • Gary Moore was a very underrated guitarist, i saw clapton and moore live in 1989 and clapton was boring and overrated while moore gave one hundred percent, gary even came out after show and signed his name and spoke to me and other fans and asked if we enjoyed show. Ive waited for years for clapton to invite gary to play with him and he never did cos gary would have showed him up and while this tribute is heart felt, its too late cos gary is gone. RIP GARY MOORE!!!!!

  • @gibson492 ..well remember..if it wasnt for EC..there would have been no Gary..it was EC influence that kick started Gary off

  • @brymacbluesband HE WAS ONE OF GARYS INFLUENCES, BUT GARY TOOK THE GUITAR TO ANOTHER LEVEL AND COULD PLAY EVERY STYLE LEAVIN ERIC BEHIND. I JUST WISH THAT ERIC WOULD HAVE ASKED GARY TO PLAY WITH HIM WHICH HE NEVER DID.

  • pero que version de mierda loco!!!

  • tunefultony...i do think gary was versatile as well but i certainly respect your opinion very much

  • Eric Clapton is much more soulful singer than Gary Moore. I liked Gary Moore when he used his fast picking for jazz rock, but he tended to shred every fucking where. Why would Eric Clapton who is a master of restraint and understatement be interested in this egotistical dickhead even though he was obviously talented.

  • @kewlfonz .. I totally agree with you, having seen Gary on lots of gigs, he would play great then start turning up the volume drowning every one out..he has no thoughts for any other guitar player..even BB King told him he was burning him out....but I must say when he was on song..he was good..now we have the new Breed of Players, Bonamassa, Davy Knowles,Matt Schofield..RIP Gary the mantle has been carried forward..

  • Eric Clapton's version is much more tasteful than Gary Moore's version even though Gary Moore actually wrote this wonderful song. Gary Moore has never understood the meaning of the word restraint or taste and that's probably why Eric Clapton never acknowledged him.

  • 1974romina..your comment makes no sense..dont mean to be rude...and Clapton was never that great as they say..Moore was much better and versatile..clapton cant play variety like Gary

  • @wonnthree I don't agree 100%........I think that Gary Moore was a technically more proficient guitarist than Eric BUT Clapton has so much more versatility. He can play & sing anything & always with consummate good taste. I am a fan of Gary's work but feel that he lacked restraint. He played far too many notes........too often.

  • @tunefultony Clapton "more versatile than Gary Moore"? In what life? Gary could play virtually any style - blues, rock, jazz, folk, hard rock, heavy metal - convincingly whereas Clapton is just a very good blues/rock player and that's about it. In terms of sheer ability there are several levels between Gary Moore and Eric Clapton. If you like Clapton better - that's down to personal taste. To me, Clapton has always been the epitome of middle of the road, whereas Gary always played with an edge.

  • @HalalKafir who cares who's better than who. they are all great musicians

  • @MrFender54 This wasn't about who better - it was about who is the more versatile player. Clapton has always stayed in his little blues/rock box while Gary ventured out and played many different styles with different bands and line-ups. Anybody that claims Clapton was "more versatile" than GM simple has no idea what he is talking about and needs to educate himself on Gary. Listen to Skid Row, Colosseum II, Thin Lizzy, G-Force, his work with Andrew Lloyd Webber, etc. and then talk.

  • @tunefultony If you were to listen to Colloseum II or the first Skid Row album (it was years ahead of its time,Moore was only 17) there's no way you could beleive Clapton to be more versatile. Moore could be incredibly delicate too. I don't think Clapton's a great acoustic player. Moore rarely used acoustic but on the few tacks he did he demonstrated more variety than Clapton's done. That said, Clapton's playing with the Bluesbreakers and Cream sublime - a perfect stylist.

  • (from Italy) I ever had a suspect. Starting from the first 70', John Mayall made a sort of Mafia and he choose and help for commercial business Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck. He knew there was else great guitarists (Gary, Ritchie Blackmore, Rory Gallagher, Albert Lee and Alvin Lee) but...they remains out of the Swimming London...Why?

  • Too little too late. I, like many commentators here, am left feeling somewhat bitter and bemused by this when I should be pleased. Shame on Clapton for never acknowledging Gary whilst he was alive. This smacks a little of a guilty conscience perhaps.

  • Gary Moore was and is my idol, Clapton never invited him to any of his concerts even CrossRoads where you can see a lot of bad musicians,...Why he is playing still got the blues now why he didn't invite gary before,,,, I think he is a lier and oppurtunist....

  • @NStani

    so fuckin' true

  • @NStani dude Gary was a brilliant Musician but an arrogant dickhead, that's why he never was invited, and eric pays a tribute to his legendary music not to his personality.

  • @Reezer83 100% bang on!!! I saw Gary Moore balling out his soundman once at a pub in Kemptown. This pub is so small/intimate, you'd have trouble swinging a cat in there. Still Gary Moore has to shout at his soundman—I mean just swing yer arm around and twiddle the PA knobs yerself Gary—It was right next to you... Arrogant dickhead is exactly the right phrase for Gary Moore.

  • Fuckin hell I wish I could have gone to this! Goddam Leaving Cert. and lack of money

  • @EclecticSceptic I hear ya man i'm doing the leaving at the moment aswell, ain't it just a bitch with this weather!

  • @haydenjohnoleary Great! Is there an official dvd release from this concert?

  • @luit13 Really i don't know if you're mocking the quality of the video or not but i don't think there is a dvd coming out!

  • @EclecticSceptic blame it on the system

  • hey clapton , you do not like gary.why r u playin his song? You want to make a difference to this song after he went away?you're such a coward cheap street artist...

  • Sorry ... Clapton cannot be compared to Gary... Also he didn't say a word about him till he died...go home Clapton!!

  • Comment removed

  • Ruined by a fucking organ...... even when 'the doors' done it. It NEVER sounded good.

  • You got to be kidding Eric never gave Gary Moore any respect or recognition while Moore was alive. He never set foot on stage with Moore, had he done so he knew that the title of guitar god would be passed over to Moore!! This is a lame weak version of a Gary Moore classic, shame on you Eric

  • I went to this gig and the song was probably the most tender and heartfelt of the night.

For whatever reason, EC was moved to make this tribute, and it touched many of us. I t took me back to Gary Moore's original, which is wonderful, and so the circle turns...

  • Goodness me Gary will be smiling at this. He always wanted to play with his hero. 2 legends brought together at last!

  • such a tasteful and touching tribute, deliberately not doing a guitar solo... a fine man indeed, Mr. C.

  • Very nice of Clapton and a cool version of the song. We miss you Gary. RIP

  • I ever wondered why Clapton never invited Gary to his Crossroads festivals - what a pity. I think, to Clapton Gary was too load and too heavy? (and an epigone of him?)

  • Yikes Thank you Eric but....this is not right !!! ????

  • Oh yeah!! Viva Gary!

  • Well, here Clapton is exposed as the poor guitar player that he has always been. Very sad that outstanding players like Gary are gone and that we are left with this clown.

  • @SkinnerSG

Sure this is not the best Clapton did, and there are lot's of things of him which he did not as a guitarrist, but as a singer and song writer.

Anyway and after all: It was Clapton who inventend modern Blues Rock guitar style. And if you listen go Gary, you find a lot of licks he owned to Clapton.

  • @carlolf Ummmmm... those licks you speak of actually came from Albert King and most blues players quote them in their playing constantly; from Stevie Ray to Joe Bonamassa. Them's the facts!

  • @chosenfool Of course there a lot's of licks every blues gitarrist learnt from others. The real point is that Clapton sounded quite different when he played the Les Paul over a full blow Marshal, used those sound colors and the way he bended the notes. This created a new way how an electric guitar can be played, and soon he had Peter and Mick as followers. Well, and 2 or 3 years later: enter Jimi H.

Gary himself stood on the shoulders of these guys, and somehow he was just a genious epigone.

  • Go home Clapton.....

  • @3rdpersonphotos I don't know... The role of great musicians is to play great music, not to please us fans by paying tribute to each other so we can feel good about it, I guess. Clapton is a great, and I'm happy about this tribute, even if I never heard him praise Gary. It's not like you have to do some things to do other things, otherwise it kinda becomes some sort of trade, don't you think?

  • RIP Gary Moore..

  • don't understand this guy he never mentioned gary once when he was alive not once ! never gave him any recognition . strange eric !

  • @Mr1959flametop : I know what you mean... yes... you're right... however maybe they had some private contact, we just don't know of it... anyway better late than never... I like it what he did... :-)

  • Only one Gary RIP

  • he played this tonight in Belfast and it was so amazing and emotional...

  • This was an amazing show and an amazing arrangement of still got the blues. It was a great to see eric playing tribute to one of irelands greatest musicians. R.I.P GARY.

  • dearie me.....there is only one Gary Moore...RIP.the best. Please bring on young Joe Bonamassa to play with the fire in his belly this guy lost many years ago.Joe to play Garys music will be great. As appreciation though to Clapton...thanks.

  • @mickybpalace

I saw Clapton 2 nights ago and believe me the fire is still there. Bonamasa is great, seen him 3 times, but with Clapton you just know he is the Boss. Just my humble opinion.

  • R.I.P. Gary, we miss you!
