  • I'll wait till I see SRAM's answer to this.

Not that I can afford either version of Di2. ^_^

  • technology is good other manufacturers who dont like to upgrade will be left behind or spend millions of money in R&D just to catch-up or worst to close their business!

if you can afford have the money to buy it why not?

but if your happy or dont have that kind of budget for me i think the basic design and cable system i good enough .

in the case of pro riders everything for them is good they will ride any components or bikes because they get paid to...

  • Looks like Campy is left behind in the dust, with shrunken market share, stupid management, and faulty designs, which don't even look good anymore.

  • fuck me, what a rip off. Seems no reason to change. I can change smoothly with my cables, always have. I can keep them 1000's of dollars in the bank.

  • rubbish...

  • Too bad many ProTour riders still choose Red or SR11. Real pity. Really missing out on all the good stuff.

  • bicycle its not eletronic its mecanical ,batery sucks ,cable better

  • @fabianomoto well, if everyone thinks like you, we'll all be riding single speed and live in huts with kerosene lamps.

  • @Microglia1 no way dude, fabiano is right. not all technology is good. some (a lot) is just over-engineered fluff.

I read somewhere, with any new technology, a good question to ask it "what is the problem for which this technology is the solution?"

  • Not cost effective at normal club level!!........... nice thou :-)

  • Can I press a button and order a pizza?

  • This utterly defeats the purpose of having a bicycle.

  • @07lmullen how does the di2 defeat the purpose of a bike?

It's funny to see comments like this because these kinds of comments were made when down tube shifters were the standard and integrated shifters were just coming into play.

It defeats the purpose! Why would anyone want integrated shifters?? What's wrong with down tube shifters! They're just as good! etc etc etc.

Same arguments today against cable shifting vs. electronic, and those arguments are dated. di2 is the future.

  • @07lmullen

Uhh... you are correct... and having more than one rear cog utterly defeats the purpose of a velocipede... and having a velocipede utterly defeats the purpose of walking... and walking utterly defeats the purpose of crawling....

  • they should make the battery solar charged. That would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttttttttttttt!!!!

  • "shift to 11" is he talking about the smallest cog or the 11th cog? I have no idea electric DA is 11 speed. Nice.

  • @Microglia1 He's referring to the 11 cog, it's 10 speed.

  • I would like this product if it were cheap, which it never will be, it might be cheaper but not alot cheaper, it will always be around 2k to 3k,

  • It would be wonderful to be grinding up a very steep hill and then accidentally shifting into the big chainring. Maybe that'll be my race strategy from now on. Quietly sneak up and shift someone else into the big chainring. I can't wait for the electronics to malfunction on whatwas supposed to be a winning breakaway.

  • I want this on my Madone :))))

  • I think this is a fantastic technology. Obviously early adapters will go charging into the market to put the value of a used car on bike's already priced at subcompacts. In the words of Ferris Bueller "If you have the means, I highly recommend it."

  • Anyone who doesn't think electronic shifting will dominate in the coming years is dreaming. It will become the norm within five years. There were a lot of people who put down STI shifting and suspended mountain bikes when they were first introduced. The cost will come down, the weight will come down, it will spread into other groups and other manufacturers will introduce their own systems. You will look back one day and try to remember bikes BEFORE electronic shifting. Count on it!

  • @glemond1 I agree 100%. I have this groupset and it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! I will NEVER be able to ride my road bike again with it's 'archaic' cable driven shifters! ;-)

  • @INGRox haha! this looks amazing and im very jealous! currently riding 2010 ultegra and loving it.

    ENJOY!

  • No, it's not "worth it". I mean yes, it shift brilliantly, I have tried it, but not for the cost Shimano is asking.

Seriously, if you are a competitive rider, and you are sponsored by a large team, then yes IT'S A MUST HAVE, because underload the shifting is seamless and your body is not "jolted" into shape or out of shape by shifting quickly over 3/4/5 gears. On the other hand Campagnolo already knew this and they designed well ahead of Shimano the quick jump shifting in gears.

  • neat idea, but isn't going to work. nobody will trust battery shifting.

  • sorry but i don´t see the slightest advantage compared to the mechanical systems !

  • There are two types of bicycles in this world. The ones who are computer literate and the ones left behind.

  • That will be a hoot when someone loses a stage and blames it on their front mech battery.

  • Bike Pron

  • with every new version, Mavic, Shimano, Dur-ace, the technology has improved to overcome weather/battery life/reliability & cost issues. Dura-Ace Di2 7970 is currently being used by 3 pro teams: Columbia High Road, Garmin Slipstream and Rabobank. Other teams will soon follow; pro & amateur.

  • 150,000 miles is not a lot for a everyday competitive cyclist. You're gonna need a new battery sooner or later.

  • big fucking deal...

  • Wayne is the first person who sponsored Lance Armstrong.

  • Me too. The system is too complicated for you local bike shop. It's pretty useless because today's top shifters already shift well.

If you were a PRO rider, I guess it's great to have. Because your sponsors will take care of everything. But for any other competitive rider, it's not worth the money.

  • @dahgutone nothing shifts like the di2. having actually ridden a bike with the di2 installed, I can tell you that nothing even comes close. once I rode it earlier this year I knew I was getting it, and I have.

try finding a store that will demo the di2. you really have to ride it to appreciate it.

  • @dahgutone For now it's probably too complicated for the usual LBS and too expansive for most riders. Give it a few years and all that will probably change.

  • @dahgutone i have it on my bike. I am not a pro rider and its increadibly fast. It is way faster than any other groupset. it is far easier to win races with this.

  • That looks amazing! But what if you 100 miles or so out from home and the electronics break you cant exactly whip out a multi-tool and fix it, you have to phone up your shimano dealer and get a electrician down to fix it... I think i will stick to mechanical :)

  • So what if Im riding in a closely knit pack of riders who are also using this system? Will my de-railer(s) activate when a rider close beside me shifts?

  • it's cableless right?

  • Cableless, yes (no heavy cables. housing). But not wireless. It has thin electric wires connecting everything. More reliable.

  • 2700 for electronic components only. Crank and brake calipers... get other lighter types. And 2700 is MSRP so i suspect to find them for appox 2grand or less when its available in Jan/Feb

  • dam its quieter than the guys at shimano told me.. i want it loud so that evry one knows ive got it!!!!

  • 4000! !@#$%
