@EtherealTristesse HI, and thanks for the kind words. I don't know about 2012, but I'm certainly getting ready for July of this year when I go to HO2011. :)
Has the mix of violins, humming, electric guitar, and a slight organ sound to it. Very versatile instrument, and it went well with Auld Lang Zyne. I liked your personal twist to the song, too!
me and my friend are great fans of you and your master work.
on this video you made harmony from the lead sound. how did you make it? it has something to do with the thing that u put in your mouth..is it a magnet? thanks.
There was nothing in my mouth, no magnets, nothing up my sleves, ect.
I did use a device called a TC Helicon Harmonizing effects pedal. I routed the theremins audio output into it, and then from the harmonizer to the amp. :)
I hooked my Theremin up to my Boss BR-1600 soundboard, and use the guitar COSM effects (GT-6). One can get some amazing sound with such effects as the Flanger, Wah-Wah, Distortion and Delays ect... I can approximate songs like Voodoo Chile by Jimi Hentdrix, with the Wah-Wah. Or Pink Floyd with other effects, and I'm using a cheap Theremin Premium to do it. lol Have you done anything like this Thomas?
P.S. Thank you for your videos, they were very helpful in getting me started with my Theremin
Yeh, I've messed about with a flanger, and some other cool stuff too. Even built a homebuilt talkbox, but never got around to posting vids of these just yet.
Wow, quick reply!!! A talkbox?! what a great idea! I may have to buy a talkbox now that you mention it. I have no idea how they work, but they do have a nifty sound to them. Was your talkbox difficult to make? Perhaps I can make my own too.
Talkboxes are sound transducers which have an audio input jack for taking, keyboard, or even theremin audio, and routing the audio through a half inch diameter tube to your mouth, where you mouth the words, but not use your voice. The talkbox becomes your second voice.
They cost about a hundred bucks. You can make one with a small practice amp, a funnel, and half inch outer diameter hose. Just tape the funnel on the speaker, slip the hose on the funnel, plug in the gear, and have fun. :)
The harmony begins at 1:00 in. Jazz at 2:30 is a riot. Fantastic job. I have GOT to get one of these things. Thanks, Thomas, for this New Year's festivity!
recently I met a wonderful thereminist that might add some exerpts to my cd, still i'm also quite thrilled about learning myself, though my love for waterphone comes first!!
happy new year too by the way!! may all your resolutions come true
Nice work. At first I thought you were looping and harmonizing with the loop. But you weren't. You were just auto-harmonizing one added interval? I'm amazed but confused.
Thanks for the kind words. The TC helicon takes the monophonic tone of the theremin, and parts out the tone to assigned notes in a given chord structure. Depending on the setting, say, 4 part harmony, it will split the tone into the four parts. But, it's not just a cheap simple spit. The harmonizer has a database of chord progressions. So, you'll actually haer chords changing just like you would hear a composer working chord progressions. You can even resolve chords to some extent.
Awesome! I showed your videos to my folks, and they bought me a THEREMIN! for Christmas! it's a Moog Etherwave, and I'm slowly learning how to play it. You can bet I'll be watching your lessons! Thanks! Happy New Year!
Fantastic! As you know, I've been wanting to hear what the Wavefront Travelcase theremin sounds like - and yes, it's a lot like the Classic, (as you'd expect). That brassy tone as you play the "solo" opening sounds incredibly like a trombone, and with multi-tracking like a brass band!
Thanks for the kind words. Actually, no multi-tracking had to be done. I used an effects pedal that takes the single tone from the instrument, and splits it into harmony based on a database of chord progressions.
Hey Thomas - I am amethyste on Theremin world - Very nice Rendition.. I guess I am getting ready for 2012 ;)

Yes, the Thereman lends itself very nicely to
AULD LANG ZYNE. I did my version last year.
Yours is wonderfully beautiful. If you pass through Winnemucca, NV, I would like to meet you.

I must say it's amusing how you seem to go into a trance when you play. Very nice vid.

One really does have to just about relax enough to be in a trance state in order to play the theremin well. ;)
