@crashman341 u die, u can get a materia that allows for "underwater breathing" which takes timer off. u get it from man in town outside of midgar...calm? he gives it to u in exhange for an item. if i remember right u get it from morphing an emeny (the boat with a skeleton on it..that will take it padel and throw one of ur party off screen, dangerous battle) u can find em down where u get the sub in the tunnel underwater where u see all the sharks swimming. under junion. DAMN i gotta good memory

I think we need a top comment saying Aire Tam storm does no damage to this party, as its damage is number of materia equipped on the character x 1111. Also, hero's drinks = boosted stats. It's very possible to have all of the items he used in this battle without any use of materia. Its quite possible he just used an area where enemies drop X-Potions to grind to 99.
i was told that i could nto beat emerald weapon with out certain things eg knights of the round, but i proved those people wrong, all i used was pheonix -final attack, demi,, haste, megalixers and limit breaks!
dude ur sucha cheap ass, if you didn't use materia before the fight than why is it at 5 minutes and 10 seconds you have 83 X-Potions? You're full of shit. You used w-item to get that. So ya, you need materia in the game. If you did that u probably use it to level as well or morph those rino things in gonganga where u get titan into power sources.
A) You can get X-potions from the bug things in Wutai as a post battle drop.
B) Hero Drinks boost stats, that's why he was using so many of them. Power sources weren't necessary.
C) And you can get both of these items from Chocobo racing.

@GoochRash About the Aire Tam Storm...it deals 1111 damage for each materia attached. So with no materia attached, it would have dealt 0 and so it wouldn't have mattered either way.
AHH! After year and years of wanting to beat Emerald Weapon but never feeling up to it, I finally beat Emerald Weapon today. ;___; It's >>so<< possible even if you're too lazy to breed chocobos. I was at level 75 and I did it ;____; childhood dream accomplished!
it took me almost 2 hours to beat him the first time. it consisted of me using knights of round with the HP absorb materia, the mime materia (to summon knights of round anytime i want), the underwater materia, and final attack with the phoenix summon materia if i remember correctly. and i only used cloud i killed off all the rest.
@CrASYmUZIk Underwater Materia is received from the old man in a house in Kalm in exchange for a Guidebook which can be obtained by morphing a sunken ship in the Junor Underwater Reactor. This materia makes it so there is no time limit to this fight.
this battle was always easy jsut equip cloud with like 4-5 counter materias and everytime the big green prick hits you cloud hits him back for like 40,000+ damage do the same for the other 3 and you can have up to 120,000 and thats without even having to input commands

@xxmago not that hard, with the proper strat they're actually easy. Everyone just uses KoTR + Mime which i find cheap lol. For emerald just uses Quadra Magic - Gravity then have someone mime it XD when he brings up Gems have a high mag atk character use W-Magic Ultima it needs to do 9999 if his gems are destroyed fast he wont Aire Tam Storm. with ruby spam dazers and hades ftw since he can be stopped XD Stop spell wont work though :/ you can do this w/o Hero's and Megalixers too lol
right now i'm on disk 3 just grinding for gil and ap for the magic in the medeel area cause i'm tryin to get the gold chocobo so i can get the knights of the round. took me a little bit longer because i havent played the game since 2000 and i forgot where i had to go at times.
This is the team I use too! Cloud, Cid & Yuffie are awesome together with their 15-18 hit limit breaks(i know Cids' Highwind is the move that hits 18 times), and their versatility(high attack power leaves options), the fact that with the right materia you can make them magic users, too, even Cid. They have double-growth weapons with LINKED slots so you don't sacrifice combinations as much, though Yuffie's is aquired very late in the game. I used Vincent before that. He has a similar weapon.
@FantasyWing1 I did most of my grinding in the Sector 5 slum....you know the area with the Hell House and worm like creatures. I was home sick from work one day and I spent like 4 hours there alone. Later on I did more grinding simply by trying to get certain enemy skills and the damn enemies I wanted never popped up. Also its not really grinding but trying to get every treasure in a cave/mountain/etc will cause you more battles as opposed to going the right path.
@KHayes666 Oh the hell house area in midgar!! I used that area alot trying to learn Limit Breaks. Hell Houses has a wicked aoe attack that boosts your gauge way high, and with Aeris you can heal entire party time and time again, not worrying about depleting your magic reserves =)
I know this is old as hell and I got an xbox 360 but this game is still so much fun after all this time......damnit Emerald Weapon here I come.....screw that I am using materia lol.
@SHOTRED555 depends. If you just want to progress through the story, you barely need any grinding at all. Even the characters not in your party gain a few exp point and the final Boss's power is scaled according to your level.
However if you want to get all the cool stuff and you want to beat special bosses like Emerald and Ruby then yes, you need to grind a lot.
@SHOTRED555 Yes and no......I never grinded nor got any master materia or gold chocobo's and I made it all the way to the final boss the first time I played. It certainly helps but its not an absolute need, I'm grinding now on my second try and its making the game easier.
Now Final Fantasy 4 on the other hand.....you need to grind for DAYS, not just hours in order to beat the game.
every time i tried any other way besides w summon f the rnd&mime emerald would split his body in half and take9999 reguardless. so final attack paired with phoenix handled that.

Finished the fight with the same party [Cloud LV 87, Yuffie LV 79, Cid LV 81] and the same strategy. Except I still used Enemy Skill materia for Mighty Guard (Big Guard) and Double Item materia (equipped on Cloud). The others had no materia.

FF7 was my first Video Game because my family couldn't afford a game system till I was about 6, for one I didn't even know the materia system, and secondly every time I saw Ultima or Emerald weapons, they scared the shit out of me because we had a huge TV at the time, giant floating feet or a giant sky roaming monster, and a scary green giant in the darkness of underwater.
To this day, I still flinch at the sight of them whenever I turn around suddenly in a vehicle.

you reached lv99 and use many items in the battle, you cheated for hero drinks :D, a fool know we have only 2 of that item in the game. everyone can do that. i can kill that weapon even with low lv and even with cloud using meteor rain

@Ragdangvu I'm not going to say that he did or didn't cheat for the hero drinks; however, it's possible to get more than just 2 of them. If you race chocobos in the gold saucer, hero drinks are a prize sometimes. For all we know, he could have spent the time racing to get all of those hero drinks. Consider all possibilities before assuming please.
@SeyrenKMW He could have also used w-item to duplicate and get 99 hero drinks without cheating in a matter of seconds... That's probably how he has so many elixirs and megalixirs.

@mymomisyourgrandpa not too sure if its a glitch or it was an intended secret, either way its extremely helpful when you want to get AP from those magic pots in the Northern Cave, could you imagine how long it would take to dig the elixers, then go all the way down the cave to the magic pots, use the elixers and then leave the cave to dig some more.........if you ask me w-item duplication was intended :)
to those wondering why he didnt die from wepoan attack is because that move is based from materia, the more materia you have equiped the more damege it will deal
It's bad (in a way) because when in fury, you take a lot more damage than on normal status. It really depends on the monster/boss you're fighting. If not really strong, you can use fury to enhance your chances of getting limit breaks.
Forgive me, but I still call BS. I received such terrible luck in this fight, the aire tam attack and the Emerald Beam were sometimes used on me twice. I'm well aware of the Hero Drink effect and how materia is not needed to beat this weapon, but as stated, it simply never panned out for me until I finally cheated. Still, congrats.

@dopeclown253 The strength of that attack depends on how many blue/yellow dots are still awake on his armor: if you don't kill them fast, that attack will deal 9999 to everyone, the more you kill the less that attack will hit for. If you kill all four it obviously doesn't that attack at all.
@dopeclown253 The Aire Tam Beam or what ever it's called? Er, spell Aire Tam backwards. maT eriA... Materia. It's based on how much materia you characters have equipped, if you have your party materia'd up the asshole, you ain't gonna last long. The reason he didn't die is because no materia was being used. Each materia equipped = 1110 damage or something along the line. :)

@metastoner lvl 70 is fine the trick is to be able to deal with his extra parts that suck your mp out do you you final attack phoenix? theres a bunch of combos that i could tell you that may come in handy

yo I was boxin Emerald Weapon for 20 minutes and still got my ass kicked. It was on the last 55 secs, i held up good until Vincent got dropped. Then when he hit the floor everybody else hit the floor
wow you got really lucky it never used "air tam storm" on you, it's instant 9999 on all your party... without final attack-revive or final attack-phoenix you would have lost.
thats a load of shit lostnumbr, aire tam storm is materia spelt backwards, for every materia thats equipped it deals 1111 damage so if cloud has 9/10 materias equipped it will deal 9999 damage, if there are no materias equipped as is the case here it deals sweet fuck all damage!
actually it takes away 1111 damage per materia each party member has...so if your party of 3 goes into battle with emerald weapon with 9 materia or more...then ur dead
i hated when i would accidentally give a phoenix down to the guy who was alive and cure3 to one with full health

Finished the fight with the same party [Cloud LV 87, Yuffie LV 79, Cid LV 81] and the same strategy. Except I still used Enemy Skill materia for Mighty Guard (Big Guard) and Double Item materia (equipped on Cloud). The others had no materia.

@Pheyt14 Hell yeah, man. FF7 was my first Video Game because my family couldn't afford a game system till I was about 6, for one I didn't even know the materia system, and secondly every time I saw Ultima or Emerald weapons, they scared the shit out of me because we had a huge TV at the time, giant floating feet or a giant sky roaming monster, and a scary green giant in the darkness of underwater.
To this day, I still flinch at the sight of them whenever I turn around suddenly in a vehicle.

Last time I played this game was like 1999 or something. Shame I don't have it anymore. I think (from memory) it took me 24 game hours to complete it. I do have the 4 disc cd soundtrack though (bought) imported from Japan.

you reached lv99 and use many items in the battle, you cheated for hero drinks :D, a fool know we have only 2 of that item in the game. everyone can do that. i can kill that weapon even with low lv and even with cloud using meteor rain

@Ragdangvu I'm not going to say that he did or didn't cheat for the hero drinks; however, it's possible to get more than just 2 of them. If you race chocobos in the gold saucer, hero drinks are a prize sometimes. For all we know, he could have spent the time racing to get all of those hero drinks. Consider all possibilities before assuming please.

@SeyrenKMW He could have also used w-item to duplicate and get 99 hero drinks without cheating in a matter of seconds... That's probably how he has so many elixirs and megalixirs.

@mymomisyourgrandpa not too sure if its a glitch or it was an intended secret, either way its extremely helpful when you want to get AP from those magic pots in the Northern Cave, could you imagine how long it would take to dig the elixers, then go all the way down the cave to the magic pots, use the elixers and then leave the cave to dig some more.........if you ask me w-item duplication was intended :)

question. why is fury a bad thing? isn't it good to get limit breaks quicker?

It's bad (in a way) because when in fury, you take a lot more damage than on normal status. It really depends on the monster/boss you're fighting. If not really strong, you can use fury to enhance your chances of getting limit breaks.

Forgive me, but I still call BS. I received such terrible luck in this fight, the aire tam attack and the Emerald Beam were sometimes used on me twice. I'm well aware of the Hero Drink effect and how materia is not needed to beat this weapon, but as stated, it simply never panned out for me until I finally cheated. Still, congrats.

@dopeclown253 The strength of that attack depends on how many blue/yellow dots are still awake on his armor: if you don't kill them fast, that attack will deal 9999 to everyone, the more you kill the less that attack will hit for. If you kill all four it obviously doesn't that attack at all.

@dopeclown253 The Aire Tam Beam or what ever it's called? Er, spell Aire Tam backwards. maT eriA... Materia. It's based on how much materia you characters have equipped, if you have your party materia'd up the asshole, you ain't gonna last long. The reason he didn't die is because no materia was being used. Each materia equipped = 1110 damage or something along the line. :)

@metastoner lvl 70 is fine the trick is to be able to deal with his extra parts that suck your mp out do you you final attack phoenix? theres a bunch of combos that i could tell you that may come in handy

yo I was boxin Emerald Weapon for 20 minutes and still got my ass kicked. It was on the last 55 secs, i held up good until Vincent got dropped. Then when he hit the floor everybody else hit the floor

wow you got really lucky it never used "air tam storm" on you, it's instant 9999 on all your party... without final attack-revive or final attack-phoenix you would have lost.

thats a load of shit lostnumbr, aire tam storm is materia spelt backwards, for every materia thats equipped it deals 1111 damage so if cloud has 9/10 materias equipped it will deal 9999 damage, if there are no materias equipped as is the case here it deals sweet fuck all damage!

actually it takes away 1111 damage per materia each party member has...so if your party of 3 goes into battle with emerald weapon with 9 materia or more...then ur dead
