She was a woman who belonged to the old regime in France before the queen Marie Antoinette. She was trying to reach the queen but it was in vain until she had to use manipulation and forged letters. And this sentence was the result.
Exactly Empress Calypso, it's always the 'woman behind the man' that gets the blame for everything e.g. Marie Antoinette instead of the King, Imelda Marcos instead of Ferdinand etc etc
oh, you won't feel bad for her if you read the whole real history. Marie Antoinette became the innocent victim because of this woman. It all ended with more tragedy becos of her. The queen's husband was beheaded and the rest of her children was cruelly taken away from her and she was finally beheaded too....all because so much lies have been made up by this wicked woman.
@missyrina - You sound like you don't even know half of the story behind the French Revolution. I would recommend picking up a book and reading quite a bit more into the lives of Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI before you go off on a rant against Jeanne de Saint-Remy de Valois.
@missyrina The woman marked with the v, was a thief who was discuised as marie antoinette. Marie antoinette (the real one) did not accept to take it because of the price. One night a man was promised that marie antoinette would meet him in the gardens of versailles, and to be paid back. The woman took it, and because it was dark the man could not see her face. So marie antoinette was blamed for robbery, but then claimed inocent. Then they found the true woman who took it.
why is it always the women that pays the price? i mean they act like men are this strong characters, yet do they get punished? no i guess men aren't as strong as they want themselves to be.
She was a courtesan, she lied to get the necklace. I think you should read! Marie-Antoinette was innocent in this case.

@lillisa667 She went to England, and died from a fall from a window. Whether it was an accident or suicide is a matter of conjecture.
