@guguigugu You just don't dig jazz. That's cool. I love dillinger just as much as the next guy, I eat sleep and breathe grind. But this is just fucking beautiful. And to say that it's sterile is just sad. It's got so much emotion, so much soul. I feel it. I definitely feel it.
@VincentDeCarnifex I can understand where he's coming from though, music like this demands to be appreciated from an almost purely intellectual perspective, it's cold and mechanical, almost like doing math homework, that's not what I think, I'm just saying you could look at it that way, some people like their music straight from the gut without all the prog wankery.
@guguigugu OH, and if you really pay attention, the amount it changes is beyond anything out there. It goes from smooth jazz to technical death metal to fusion to djent to ambient drum and bass. All in one track. I'd say it's worth another listen through.
@VincentDeCarnifex i can hear all that, and i do respect it from a techical standpoint. i can have this as background music 24/7, but i really can't get into it to the point where i leave everything else and just listen. which is the same thing i would say about jazz, so yeah, i guess i really don't dig it... :)
@guguigugu when you start by saying something really condescending like "well i'm sure these guys are having fun playing this, but i'm bored out of my mind" you don't really open the floor for amiable discussion imo, just sounds like pointless hate
@guguigugu really seems like you are going back on your words, you did after all say "well i'm sure these guys are having fun playing this, but i'm bored out of my mind".

were the fuck are screams / sings ?
lmo ppl still listen to instrumental albums those days....
AAL you guys are great musicians, NO DOUBT ! but come on just find yourself a singer or even a screamer idgaf, but seriously stop harassing people with instrumental album, it's gettin really fn old.
There are so many bands out there with vocalists, go listen to them. When it comes to instrumental, there are few bands out there that do it as well as Animals As Leaders, I'd rather keep it that way thanks.
Tbqh, oftentimes their music re-surges and starts playing in my head at the worst possible moments in the day. Perhaps I listen too much. It just gets SO stuck in my mind that it splinters my waking consciousness like no other music. Quite dangerous; & now to replay.
My only dislike about this song is that it reminds me of CAFO, and the breakdown at 2:03 is soo epic that just like with CAFO's breakdown/solo at the end, I thought they were gonna play it again. I was so sad. lol But the entire album is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo doooooooooooooooooooope!
I love Cynic's "Focus", but this is way better. I wish it had vocals, though... but there would be such a possibility of them messing up the track flow.
Shuttle astronauts should blare this in the cabin while they are taking off. Holy shit the intro to this song+ the G-force of launching!! hopefully by the slow end of the song they'll be WEIGHTLESS in space.
It's funny. Two months before this album came out, I had a dream about taking a space elevator to an orbital resort (where I smoked weed). This song comes out, and I'm thinking to myself o_0 HOW DID THEY FUCKING KNOW???
I don't know how you would call this "experimental music" as it sounds like a thousand other bands out there and is not incredibly original. Maybe this was experimental in 1993 when Cynic did it but now in 2011 their album is a commonplace attempt, and frankly a pedestrian one at that.
Calling me a pedestrian is not an insult in itself, it means a person who goes and travels on foot. If you were trying an analogy of me walking in the road, and Animals As Leaders are a Mack truck, just remember Mack trucks are a mass produced commercial vehicle, which is more of a negative comparison than what I gave. Alas, if being such a fanboy makes you feel intelligent, I will not persist in ruining your crutch. I am off to read some Proust :)
@rufus566 I'd say this takes waaay more of a influence from bebop than Focus did. These chord progressions just scream John Coltrane to me. Cynics don't. And there's definitely not very many bands doing that. If there are, honestly, please let me know. I'd be stoked to hear them. Excuse me now, I'm off to read some translate some Proust into Arabic.
@rufus566 Who cares if someone has done it before, it is still not the same music. Just fucking listen to the music and let it be what it is. Everyone whines about this shit and it just takes away from the musical value of it. People need to learn to appreciate all music. I will listen to some Protest The Hero, then some A Fine Frenzy, then some of this and then Radiohead or Incubus or Circa Survive. I don't care what people say about them, its just all great music to me.
@rufus566 I don't know about 'experimental', but it definitely has its own sound. This does not sound like Cynic, bub; it sounds like Animals as Leaders.
@MetallicOpeth It awesome isn't it.. It gives me chills! When it really kicks in and it's super massive sounding. Love it. This song is the most played thing on my ipod!
