First of all the box is sealed so the size really doest matter much and if you want to make the sub think the box is bigger just stuff it with polly fill. Two it's in a truck so space is tight anyways. Also a W7 is a dual 1.5 ohm sub so that's 3 ohms if it's in parallel but if wired in series/parallel is 1 ohm. Also JL Audio subs are really ment for smaller boxes anyways.

@fabehern I know you weren't asking me... but in my opinion the m12 is THE best amplifier out there.... it will provide the needed power for this sub and the digital amps are very efficient... I run a PDX-4.100, and its amazing... and I've been looking at the M12 or the 1.1000 for my w7 as well....

You dont have to turn down the gain if its being broken in.. its not a volume control. You set the voltage on the gain to match the preouts on the headunit. If its any normal basic headunit you're going to be expecting to turn the gain up quite high.

the jl 13w7 had dual 1.5ohm voice coils and at the time i didnt know the pdx was stable down to 1 ohm. You need to make sure your amp is putting out the desired watts on an ohm load that is equal to the ohm load on ur subwoofer

duh im not that dumb just the way you said it sounded different and this sub cant be wired to 1 ohm i can be wired to 3 or .75 and .75 would be good because after box rise it will never even see less than 1 at the amp

those amps will push 1000 watts into anywhere from 2-4 ohms. this sub should be wired in series to 3 ohms which the amp would be happy to push its max 1000rms into.

yea you need a bigger box than that, probably have already done that since then, and with a 13W7 a sealed and ported are both fine, you lose quality on a ported but because of how JL makes their W7 lineup you wouldnt even notice a change in quality

i used to have the 13w7 prowedge box. i loved the lows it hit. But now i got a 3.2cu ft ported box downfiring with 4x11 port tuned at about 35hz it pounds. W7 isn't made for bandpass btw but it does hit hard

restate ur question cuz parenthesis confuse the hell outta me. if i got u correctly you wanna know why you have to turn the bass up on the head unit. right. im an ameture so you can ignore me but if your amp isnt up, put it up. you might need to redesign your box. mainly store bought is shitty so build ur own. and make sure that the peak wattage of the sub is not less that the amp. i blew a couple of cheesy subs. o well. now if anyone wants to tell me im full of it. go ahead. teach me :)

Na man as long as the amps are tuned right thats fine. The bass should only be at +0 if your tuning the mids and highs. I have a 13W6 and i put the bass anywhere between +6 and +10 on my alpine headunit. Your amp might not be tuned right thats what i think.
