You have a Saddlebred retaining his winter coat? did he shed out at all this past summer? You might want to have his thyroid checked and Saddlebreds are known to have problems with sweet grains, they are diabetic, also Addisons.
@TheHorselover42 ...I had him for sale for a couple of years and no one wanted him as a stallion, so no sense in keeping him one. Now he can run with a herd of mares as his pasture buddies and is very happy =)
Thank you! He has since been gelded, too many nice chestnut Saddlebred stallions and not enough interest, so he is now fat, sassy and hanging with a grumpy old ASB mare that adores him ROFL
WOW! As someone who gets constantly 'harassed' by some other riders for not believing in castration (they say it's cruel to not castrate and will just make the animal dangerous to himself and others), I adore seeing someone ride an actual stallion so well. I haven't been riding for very long, only since Februari, but I always think stallions look way better than geldings. I once saw a Friesian stallion and gelding next to each other, the stallion looked like he had so much more spirit about him.
Are saddlebreds naturally gaited???? I know a TWH gaits from birth. I ride tennessees and was thinkin on tryin a saddlebred in the future. but with my bad back i have to have a gaited horse lol
Some Saddlebreds are naturally gaited, this particular boy is NOT but he is as smooth a ride as any TWH I've been on! Saddlebreds have a naturally smooth way of going that is very easy on aching backs!
@IrishSaddlebred well, yes they tend to be more energetic. I show them, and they do tend to be more spooky than your backyard qh, but there breed to be high energy, hish stepping horses, at least the show ones are
Hi, thanks! He's even more gorgeous in person. He's just 16 hands but has those long legs and long neck and when he draws himself up (esp under saddle), he thinks *he's da king!!*
Prices will vary. Saddleseat ASBs are quite expensive, up into the five digit figures.
This stallion is extremely sweet, smart, energetic but NOT stupid and I actually have more into his training costs than he is priced at. So if he doesn't sell, he stays
