There are several wonderful performances of this song-Henshall here, Karen Ziemba on a PBS special, Jane Krakowski, and others and then there is the awful, leaden mess by the supremely untalented Madonna Ciccone in the DickTracy film. Unfortunately she was handed the part by one of her many, many, many, many squeezes, Warren Beatty.

Yes, Hensaw's the full package - gorgeous, sexy, great at acting with her body - with an incredibly versatile and thrilling voice! The best the UK has ever produced, in my opinion. She certainly held her own in this brilliant cast. I loved them all!

Madonna is a mega-icon who has sold a gazillion records, and by any critical standard a barely adequate singer -- being charitable. Ruthie Henshall is an absolute vocal master -- one of the very best there ever has been. It would suitt one better not to mention Madonna's name in the same sentence with this woman's. You will lose all credibility if you try to even compare the two.

am i the only one who believes that her voice is not suited for this song? dont get me wrong her voice is absoloutley gorgeous but the voice needed for this is a sultry, slightly raspy voice and as for her performance, it wasn't seductive it was just choreographed with no added emotion other than what was already put out through the bocking

I totally agree. I love Ruthie Henshall. I love her voice. I'm NOT bashing her. That role in Putting it Together is INCREDIBLY hard to cast because almost no one is going to be perfect for every song. The role's just too varied. I only know of one performer who can do every song in this revue in exactly the right style and that's Rachel York. Apparently having appreciation for versatility renders me a "gay fish" in some circles. But in this case I think it renders me simply discerning.
