She didn't care about her kids. They needed their Father. He was a big earning attorney. He was giving betty 16,000 dollars monthly. That's 32,000 adjusted for inflation. She's a spoiled welfare bum living on our taxes. She's not missing any meals. She'll never be paroled. She thinks she's the victim. She really is stupid.
@Licmycat OK, I'll go along with that. Was it he who rammed his car into Betty's house? Or broke in and vandalized her belongings? Or sneaked into her bedroom and shot her to death as she slept?
@Licmycat Did you not notice what she said and did to him? Remember the Christmas present when she threw a fit? Remember her burning his clothes? Remember the temper tantrum at the ski resort? I could go on and on......And no--I'm a female (see picture).
@napachild Bet they didn't tell all he did to her. Didn't he ask her what she wanted for a gift and since he thought it should HIS taste instead of her own he got her what she didn't like. Do YOU kiss a vain conceited man's ass? U have ur own choice and so do I. I left my last one far away so I wouldn't get in trouble for killing him. Bet he was screwing the dumb bitch he finally married all the time too. The guy on the movie. Anyway, he was a lawyer so he's in hell at this moment.
@Licmycat Sorry you're so bitter towards men. I have had my share of hurt from them too and then met my soul mate. Was with him for years. Then he passed away in 2007. Thought I would be alone the rest of my life until I recently met a man that I see occasionally. Strictly casual, but I would have never believed it just a year ago.
@napachild Besides I'm only bitter towards one. As for others, I do not trust men these days as it is seeing all the things I have about homo sapiens men and now cannot tell if the next one I might see in public is a morphed ET or an earthly man. Sorry for ur heartaches.
@Licmycat I understand completely as far as men go. I didn't want anything to do with them either. I was (and still am) prepared to spend the rest of my life alone. Then I met someone I am interested in and I THINK I can trust. He helped me fix a problem with my house that required crawling under the dirty, muddy crawlspace--not once, but twice. He saved me a lot of money. He has been kind to me. We enjoy each other's company. Where it goes from here, who knows?
@Licmycat P.S. He also spent the afternoon weeding out a section of my yard so I could plant strawberries. From what I have seen so far, he is a good person. But since he's a man, I'll use caution!
@napachild Not me judging. Go read the bible and you will see. Jesus tried to help and heal the people by bringing them to the Father. A lot of truth because he IS the truth. Can you love a man who only loves himself? Clearly bad things happen to those who do. That's where science and it's logic steps in as well. There is a reaction to all actions.
I've seen the movie and then I read the book. After watching the movie I thought Betty was way over the top. After reading the book (with more details) I believe Dan was not as completely innocent as this movie makes him out to be. There were times that he pushed Betty to the limit when he didn't have to and not once did he give Betty the credit she deserved for the years she helped him get to where he was.
@lindapittsburgh Obviously the scenes the night before the murders were made up. But Hollywood is great at that--they can "fill in the blanks" with whatever they want. Just makes for a better storyline.
I really felt for Dan & Linda when I first say this movie.I was 18 in 1984.I thought Betty was a fat, ugly, psychotic ruthless woman. Now that Im 45, I do see things through Betty's eyes. You cant imagine what it is like to grow older and see your man with a younger woman. What is worse, is when its a carbon copy of yourself at that age.She did not get anywhere near half of what was hers. She kept the family going financially while he was in school that was over 12 years. She gave him her youth.
@dolds67 This came out in the early 90's because the murder didn't happen until 1989. At that time, I was about your age (45). I thought Betty Broderick was a sick person from the start. No matter what she did for her kids and Dan, look at all the scenes where she was totally out of control. Dan may have been no saint, but I can certainly understand why he left her. I think he would have left her whether he was involved with someone or not. She is a narcissist.
@napachild ok, um your relating in your post to creative and dramatic uptakes in the movie. Not everything that is on tv happens the way it is in real life. Dan wasnt going to give her the home they built valued at the time at 330,000. He tricked her into moving into a lesser home, only a third of the value of the family home. The valuable "family" home was to be have work done. He moved back into that home and then sold it and she did not get a penny.
@dolds67 Dan just couldnt help himself when it came to taking away from Betty. He wanted it all. I think he thought all along after she became older and had his children that he was going to trade her in. I think too that he thought himself superior, after reading a lot about him, to her because she did not have a degree. I think Betty was the one person who saw him as an equal and didnt think he was a God but just a man.
@dolds67 She got maybe 17% of the assets.I think that the divorce should have been held somewhere else other than where Dan practiced. I think judges were biased and gave him everything he wanted. Her alimony was a joke...it was 4% of what he made. So if a regular guy makes a hundred grand a year, that means only 400 dollars a year. You think thats fair? Her house was a dump compared to his. The legal system is too blame too for not a fair settlement. California is supposed to be 50/50.
@napachild Betty, hardly got any assets. This was long before she flew off the handle. There is evidence, (as I have read many books and court transcrips) that Linda and Dan were betting that when he took the kids away she would kill herself. He was really hoping that she would kill herself and Linda joked about it in the office to anyone who would listen. Dan told Betty she was crazy stupid and fat and with low self esteem she coundnt rise above.
@dolds67 Plus, Dan wrote several checks to his brother, to hide money These checks were thousands and thousands of dollars. Checks that Betty found after hours and hours of going through their paper work. Dad did this before he seperated from Betty so he would have more. The judge just waived this off and Betty didnt see any money from this...even though it was from their checking account. Dan had it all laid out financially before he and Betty split. Betty just didnt realize it soon enough.
@dolds67 Dan is bringing in millions a year and Betty only gets a 160,000 a year in alimony. Betty wasnt just a housewife, she helped in the business too, giving lavish dinner parties for Dans clients and future clients. Making sure that Dan maintained the part that brings in the business. She made sure he looked like a great dad and family man, like a great Notre Dame Alumni. These appearances win wealthy conservative clients who have big money. She made sure his appearance was perfect.
@dolds67 I was and still am very passionate about this case. I think Betty has suffered enough I was upset she wasnt let out of jail. No matter what, she did not have the right to end Dan and Linda's life. However, I do think that others need to take some responsibility. Dan and Linda for continuing to stir the pot. He admitted the kids wanted to be with him and begged for him not to take custody away from their mom. He did it out of spite. Dan wanted to win at any cost and didnt care.
@dolds67 Everytime Dan won, and he won big financially and in every way...he lost. He knew she was coming unglued and yet he couldnt help himself to poke a stick at an angry dog. Do you think a dog should be put to death...if a youngster instigates it over and over and over again and then the dog bites? I dont. Dan poked that stick at Betty over and over and over again. I think he enjoyed it...watching her break mentally. She wasnt ever aggressive like what she showed after several years of this.
@dolds67 I don't for the life of me understand why you defend this woman. I don't care WHAT Dan and Linda did. NOTHING they did warrants her sneaking into their bedroom in the middle of the night and killing them. Its too bad I can't upload the second part to this movie. "Betty Broderick--Her Final Fury." It turns up with copyright violations on it. Maybe if you saw some of the testimony from a couple of her psychiatrists, you might have a different opinion of her.
@napachild Ok, you are relying on the movie way way too much. Its for entertainment. A loose version of real events (you dont read that part at the first). Sweety I have seen that movie more times than you can count. I own it parts one and two. Mostly because I was a big fan of Meridith Baxter. Ive seen the home they died in as well.
@napachild Um Ok, you need to read some books. That ring scene...didnt happen. Your pointing to it like it was a real event...it wasnt. As I keep saying, the movie is for artistic purpose. Not to be taken literal. Why are you so upset with Betty? Can you not see she got the raw end of the stick. She made several bad moves..like taking the kids over to him to show him how much work it is. He told the court she abandoned them. That was farthest from the truth.
@napachild As I have pointed out several times the movie is art. Not everything in it is true. Like the kids being left alone on Dans door stop for hours at a time.It didnt happen. What kind of man honeymoons in the same place with new wife where he took first wife? What kind of man continues to be a member at a country club (when there are many) where his first wife was well known and friendly with many members and still had a membership?
@napachild Did you know, Dan used the same best man for the 2nd wedding that he had used for the 1st wedding? Who does that? Did you know Linda sent a wedding invitation to Bettys parents? Wedding invites were also sent to many of Bettys good friends. While the movie shows one such friend telling Betty that she was dropping her as a friend to be friends with Dan and Linda. That never happened. Not this one friend that was depicted on the movie.
@napachild I have given you several real examples of how Betty was pushed over the edge. All you can quote is the movie?I have read killers,(like the Dating game cereal killer) who get less time for raping and nearly murdering a child In my opinion,I think Betty has paid back society for her part in this. She wont ever give "dogs" a lie and say "yes, it was all me. Dan and Linda did nothing!" She has hardly had any counseling.Betty was only a danger to herself and Dan and Linda.
@dolds67 She was denied parole in 2010 because she had the same narcisstic attitude she did at trial some 20+ years ago. Nothing is her fault, its all Dan and Linda, etc., etc., etc. As long as she maintains this attitude, she will stay locked up for life and that's just where she belongs. She had no concern for her kids and all except for one of them don't visit her or communicate with her. 3 out of the 4 of them sued her.
@napachild Have you ever read up on Narcissistic Personality?Women are naturally the center of the home.Doesnt mean they have NPD.They must be self absorbed. They have unrealistic fantasy. NPD have a need for excessive attention and admiration. Also they have disturbed interpersonal relationships. This is a loose definition. The term is used overly excessive. Few...very few people are ever diagnosed with this extreme mental illness. Its a very scary serious mental illness.
@dolds67 Bettys biggest mistake was that she made the home and hearth the center of her world, as well as having it define her self esteem. Dan was the center of media, courts, clients, alumni, country club, law firm.Betty was happy to stay in the background. That was her role as it is for most women...to support the husband.Of course, she wanted to be admired for keeping and having the perfect marriage and family. Are you Catholic? Do you know what it means to be divorced? Do you know how her mom was?
@dolds67 I do think that as the divorce grew long,Betty developed a fixation.I think she was at her wits end and thought nothing but this divorce and how her life was going to change.I dont think she thought the murder out & how it would affect & effect her children. One thing everyone agreed on,Betty was a good mom and loved her kids. She lost her way thats for sureCant you see even out of jail she has lost everything? I just cant/wont blame her for everything.I think Dan and Linda were culpable.
@dolds67 I just think if the parole board or any court or judge would acknowledge to Betty that they understand & realize that Dan made poor choices too.Thats all she wants, its all she has ever wanted. As I said for a metaphor, how can we kill a dog that bit a child, who teased it every day for months, and continued to tease...after being warned the dog would bite? I think Betty is very sorry, she did love Dan when he was poor. She brought out the best in him and he brought out the worst in her.
@dolds67 You know--I think you're about as sick as she is. I think you should go visit her in prison and commiserate with her over all the injustices done to her. I have read the book. I don't have any different opinions or impressions as I do now. I'm sure you could make her real happy she has such a fan. Say---I've got it. You can be a character witness for her the next time she's up for parole. Bottom line--she's in prison--for life! Deal with it.
@dolds67 I put a considerable time into posts,Im not flying off the handle.I think that if Dan had given Betty one concession,or made it appear he lost one battle,he still won the war! I think he would be alive today.Dan could have made other choices too.If he would have given her.. fair share financially. If he would have shared the kids with custody. If he would have made his and Linda's life somewhat different, not a carbon copy of what he shared with Betty,he would still be alive.
@dolds67 She killed the children's Father. They needed him.He was a big earning Attorney. He was giving Betty 16,000 Dollars monthly. That's 32,000 Dollars adjusted for inflation. She stole the life from her children that they would have lived. She's in prison like the fat assed welfare freak she is.Living on our taxes. She's not missing any meals.Honestly,it's California. They should have put this monster in the Gas Chamber.
@napachild I feel very strong in the case. They hardly had any money for years while she did numerous odd jobs and worked... while Dan is back in college. At one point she sold her plasma, so they could eat as she didnt want to ask her parents again for more money. When they married Dan told her he wanted to be a doctor he never prepared her for his real goal. He was in school most of their married life. Stop watching TV and pick up a book or two on the subject.
@dolds67 Jurors who were on the case, said that they thought that she would only serve 10 years or so. According to the misdirection at the Judges hand. If the jurors had thought she would have still been in jail over 20 years they might have found her not guilty. Every Juror felt like Dan and Linda did push her over the edge. This movie was made by men who edited it to make Betty look like she was always mental and a loose cannon.
@dolds67 To Napa Child, Her parole, was judged by a man. Yeah, I watched it too. But I also read the transcript. She does apologize. She does realize what she did. However, they want her to just act like....Dan did nothing, Linda did nothing....they were perfect and I was the bad one. I was the only one who was bad in this situation. If she would have told them what they wanted to hear...she would have been granted parole. She just cant, I dont think I could give dogs a lie either.
because he was a bit shot in the courts he did make things hard for her but i dout he would of if she hadnt of done all the crazy shit she did..he would of left her in the house with the kids and pay her what he needed to so she did in a way bring all the bad shit on herself and her need to ruin him..just because he didnt want her anymore that caused her to give him her kids just to try break him so he would want her back and when it back fired she killed 2 people so why feel bad for her
@unloveable84 You are a very pretty young lady if that's your photo. If you were born in 1984, you are 2 years younger than my youngest son. Thank you for your comments. They are spot on!
@napachild yesa thate me thanks for ur compilment and yes jan 84 im 28...just hate that she took 2lives but most people feel sorry for her just shows wat a sick world we live in
@unloveable84 Absolutely! My youngest son will be 30 in April and he's moaning and groaning! I know how he feels. 30 was the hardest age for me to hit. I kept saying "I'm not in my 20's anymore!" Once I got 30 out of the way, it was all downhill from there! LOL! I will be 67 in June. I start out thinking of myself as 67 in December, so that by the time June gets here I'm prepared for it!
we have all been hurt by some1 we love but it doesnt give us the right to take there life .i dont think she cared what happend to her kids tru all of this it looked like she just wanted houses and money and to leave him with nothing .any normal mum would of just wanted what she needed to live with her kids and move on but this shows she was evil only taught of her self .n his new wife she isnt a home wrecker she fell in love n didnt deserve to lose her life lets not forget her in all of this
why is everyone feeling sorry for her i know to give everyone ur life and get nothing in return is awful and runs you down to were u feel like u have nothing ..she says she gave him the best years of her life and the kids look how quick she dropped her kids when she couldnt have him she quickly stopped caring for them in the mammy way ..ive been hurt to the stage were i wanted to ruin him but to kill him and a young girl out of bitterness is sick and she deserves nothing but hell
Men cheat on their wives, but I never thought that Betty would kill her ex-husband and his new wife in cold blood because he didn't want her anymore,People fall out of love, but killing them wont help u feel better.Yes Dan should have handle things differently,BUT Betty did this to herself. Was it worth it?!
For those who feel sorry for this "victim" see the next movie called "Her Final Fury" and the truth comes out. This woman had a psychosis buried within her but that's no excuse. Murder is only justified in a kill or be killed situation. If all men who cheat on or cheat their wives in any manner were murdered few would be left on this earth. Not that I excuse that either especially since some socieities allow men to kill their wives for cheating.
@Star3NoLimits I think if their marriage was truly happy, Dan wouldn't have turned to Linda. He had in fact been miserable with her for years and didn't cheat on her until he met Linda. I can overlook that in a guy a lot more than some guys (some famous even!) that cheat on their wives over and over and who have no intention of being true to one woman. At least Dan left Betty. She didn't stay alone for long either.
ohhhh..there is a sequal!!!! nice. gotta see that.Im a true story, true crime story etc junkie..im surprised I didnt know that there was a part 2. now I know how Im gonna spend my saturday..hehe! thanks.I love your channel!
NOT SURE..SHE WORKED HER ASS OFF TO PAY FOR HIS CARREER TO END UP LETTING SOME HOMEWRECKER TAKE IT ALL? MANY WOMAN WOULD HAVE WENT NUTS ..I THINK SHE SNAPPED FOR A GOOD REASON.
@mycorpy First of all, he worked equally hard as she did. They were both driven by work and money. Since you haven't seen the sequel to this "Her Final Fury" you haven't seen what the psychiatrists talked about at trial. One said he had diagnosed her as narcissistic because she displayed all 9 characteristics used to diagnose narcissism. Since she had this personality disorder all the time she knew Dan, I can see why he left. She was a total bitch to live with.
@napachild I support you completely with your comment. 'mycorpy' has a very typical mindset of US women (sorry for the generalization, I am from Europe where we, women think very differently in sharing responsibilities in a relationship), and that is the sense of entitlement. It may come from Daddy raising a daughter and then 'giving' her to the husband to continue the pampering...which for me is very superficial and has no attachment to real life...
@mycorpy It is 'career', not 'carreer', and 'should have gone' instead of 'should have went'. Plus you should stop screaming. I think you have the same traces of her personality, which is very dangerous. You are only entitled to whatever you worked for on your own and got paid for. No Daddy, no husband involved.Go back to school first and learn your own mother-tongue. English is only my third language and I write it better than you do.
@mycorpy Murder cannot be justified. Her public support tells us more about a sick society than the case itself. She married an ass-hole how can anyone end up hating him after merely watching a movie about the case it's bound to be full of bias anyway.
@mycorpy You really need to see the second part of this. I can't upload it because it comes out with copyright violations. The "homewrecker" didn't get it all--at trial the prosecutor goes into great detail showing how much Betty got in alimony, child support, etc. He bought her a house in LaJolla also. He didn't owe her the rest of his life. She's the one that dropped off the kids one at a time. She's a sick narcissist.
honestly icannot find any means for sympathy with this woman, even after she got what she seemed to have wanted and got the divorce rather than living in the past and squandering her life on a man she didnt deem worth it, she could have learned from the past continued her relationship with her new boyfriend and picked up the pieces of her life. then she might have gotten a more reasonable term for custody with her children and wouldnt end up a social outcast. she just cant let go.
@Venom0027 She still can't let go today---some 20 years after she killed Dan and Linda. She was up for a parole hearing in 2010. She was denied in part because all she did was get up and rant and rave about Dan and Linda and how they had wrecked her life, yada, yada, yada! I hope she stays in prison for the rest of her life.
The marriage of Betty & Dan Broderick was a marriage of 2 narcissists. When Betty was ultimately rejected for the trophy wife, she couldn't bear it. I doubt if he would have acted the same had the shoe been on the other foot although he may have made her life hell through legal means, since he had most of the money & the power.
@mmedefarge But I doubt seriously if the shoe had been on the other foot, Dan would have sneaked into Betty's bedroom in the middle of the night and shot her and her lover to death (she did have a lover after Dan--he still owns her house and takes care of her finances. I guess he's hoping she'll be free someday. LOL
@napachild I said he wouldn't have because he wouldn't have lost his status in the world just because he lost his wife. She on the other hand lost much when she lost him. Status & power meant a lot to both of them
I dont agree with what she did. But I get it. Its hard for women or men who have been married to someone for a long time, standing by them through thick and thin and having their babies and so on and so forth to just sit by and watch the person youve loved forever and been through all this with, to just up and erase you out of their life. This is why there should not be divorce. You should have to live a person for at least 10 years before you are allowed to marry them. Divorce ruins lives.
This rich bitch was upset. She was rich, fat, and ugly. She was a predator and a stalker. If a man was put in this position & killed his wife, he would have been given the death penalty.
@MsColleenW Please don't forget the things she did to Dan. Smashing an umbrella through his window and destroying his things and spray painting his walls. What about ramming her car through his front door? And what about Betty;s stealing Linda's guest list and calling people on it asking them not to go to the wedding? Dan and Linda might have done things to her too, but Dan and Linda didn't break into her house and destroy things or ram their car into her front door.
Boy is she obnoxious, I would have divorced her way before he did. All that nagging can actually drive a spouse away (man or woman), the day married people realized that would be the day divorce rate would go down at least to half of what it is now.
@napachild Actually after watching this movie I kind of read some articles about her and according to testimonies of her own children what you see in the movie is not even half of how abusive and intolerant she was towards her husband, she pretty much drove him insane until he finally left her. So I don't know about her being a victim. I know I wouldn't have put up with her for as long as he did.
@mcmlxvi Of course I was being silly! I thought you would recognize that! But I do agree with your comments. There is a book out called "A Woman Scorned" and it is very good. I have read it and agree with all the things all us RATIONAL people believe to be true. I'm just sorry I couldn't upload part 2 of the movie. Copyright. Don't know why part 1 wasn't! Just be thankful her parole was denied and she's not eligible for parole again for at least 3 years, but probably more like 15 years.
@napachild Well, I've been married for 25 years and I can honestly say there's a couple of times when I wanted to rip my wife's head right out of its socket. But this women did everything in the book to drive her husband away, constant nagging is a terminal decease in a marriage, young couples (specially women no offence to the ladies) should keep it in mind if they want their marriages to last.
I do not entirely agree with hating her, her actions were wrong, but I certainly do not thing that her treatment by her husband Dan and Linda were appropriate either. I certainly do not think much of Linda or Dan, and by all accounts he egged her on during the divorce and pushed her to extremes. Due to his legal expertise he was able to get most of her assets due her taken away and he delighted in humiliating her. He certainly did not use good judgement, and neither did Linda.
@MsColleenW I am grateful I can almost watch this movie without gagging! LOL! Seriously, no matter what Dan and Linda did wrong, that doesn't mean they somehow deserved to be shot to death as they lay sleeping in bed. Betty Broderick is everything that psychiatrist said she was. That she had all nine of the characteristics used to diagnosis psycomain come to this. Well, its getting late. Must go to bed.

@lindapittsburgh Obviously the scenes the night before the murders were made up. But Hollywood is great at that--they can "fill in the blanks" with whatever they want. Just makes for a better storyline.

@JaYnEsAyZ Well, I think Betty is a little strange anyway! LOL! But, yes, I did notice it.
napachild 6 days ago
I really felt for Dan & Linda when I first say this movie.I was 18 in 1984.I thought Betty was a fat, ugly, psychotic ruthless woman. Now that Im 45, I do see things through Betty's eyes. You cant imagine what it is like to grow older and see your man with a younger woman. What is worse, is when its a carbon copy of yourself at that age.She did not get anywhere near half of what was hers. She kept the family going financially while he was in school that was over 12 years. She gave him her youth.
dolds67 1 week ago
@dolds67 This came out in the early 90's because the murder didn't happen until 1989. At that time, I was about your age (45). I thought Betty Broderick was a sick person from the start. No matter what she did for her kids and Dan, look at all the scenes where she was totally out of control. Dan may have been no saint, but I can certainly understand why he left her. I think he would have left her whether he was involved with someone or not. She is a narcissist.
napachild 1 week ago
@napachild ok, um your relating in your post to creative and dramatic uptakes in the movie. Not everything that is on tv happens the way it is in real life. Dan wasnt going to give her the home they built valued at the time at 330,000. He tricked her into moving into a lesser home, only a third of the value of the family home. The valuable "family" home was to be have work done. He moved back into that home and then sold it and she did not get a penny.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 Dan just couldnt help himself when it came to taking away from Betty. He wanted it all. I think he thought all along after she became older and had his children that he was going to trade her in. I think too that he thought himself superior, after reading a lot about him, to her because she did not have a degree. I think Betty was the one person who saw him as an equal and didnt think he was a God but just a man.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 She got maybe 17% of the assets.I think that the divorce should have been held somewhere else other than where Dan practiced. I think judges were biased and gave him everything he wanted. Her alimony was a joke...it was 4% of what he made. So if a regular guy makes a hundred grand a year, that means only 400 dollars a year. You think thats fair? Her house was a dump compared to his. The legal system is too blame too for not a fair settlement. California is supposed to be 50/50.
dolds67 1 day ago
@napachild Betty, hardly got any assets. This was long before she flew off the handle. There is evidence, (as I have read many books and court transcrips) that Linda and Dan were betting that when he took the kids away she would kill herself. He was really hoping that she would kill herself and Linda joked about it in the office to anyone who would listen. Dan told Betty she was crazy stupid and fat and with low self esteem she coundnt rise above.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 Plus, Dan wrote several checks to his brother, to hide money These checks were thousands and thousands of dollars. Checks that Betty found after hours and hours of going through their paper work. Dad did this before he seperated from Betty so he would have more. The judge just waived this off and Betty didnt see any money from this...even though it was from their checking account. Dan had it all laid out financially before he and Betty split. Betty just didnt realize it soon enough.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 Dan is bringing in millions a year and Betty only gets a 160,000 a year in alimony. Betty wasnt just a housewife, she helped in the business too, giving lavish dinner parties for Dans clients and future clients. Making sure that Dan maintained the part that brings in the business. She made sure he looked like a great dad and family man, like a great Notre Dame Alumni. These appearances win wealthy conservative clients who have big money. She made sure his appearance was perfect.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 I was and still am very passionate about this case. I think Betty has suffered enough I was upset she wasnt let out of jail. No matter what, she did not have the right to end Dan and Linda's life. However, I do think that others need to take some responsibility. Dan and Linda for continuing to stir the pot. He admitted the kids wanted to be with him and begged for him not to take custody away from their mom. He did it out of spite. Dan wanted to win at any cost and didnt care.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 Everytime Dan won, and he won big financially and in every way...he lost. He knew she was coming unglued and yet he couldnt help himself to poke a stick at an angry dog. Do you think a dog should be put to death...if a youngster instigates it over and over and over again and then the dog bites? I dont. Dan poked that stick at Betty over and over and over again. I think he enjoyed it...watching her break mentally. She wasnt ever aggressive like what she showed after several years of this.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 I don't for the life of me understand why you defend this woman. I don't care WHAT Dan and Linda did. NOTHING they did warrants her sneaking into their bedroom in the middle of the night and killing them. Its too bad I can't upload the second part to this movie. "Betty Broderick--Her Final Fury." It turns up with copyright violations on it. Maybe if you saw some of the testimony from a couple of her psychiatrists, you might have a different opinion of her.
napachild 1 day ago
@napachild Ok, you are relying on the movie way way too much. Its for entertainment. A loose version of real events (you dont read that part at the first). Sweety I have seen that movie more times than you can count. I own it parts one and two. Mostly because I was a big fan of Meridith Baxter. Ive seen the home they died in as well.
dolds67 1 day ago
@napachild Um Ok, you need to read some books. That ring scene...didnt happen. Your pointing to it like it was a real event...it wasnt. As I keep saying, the movie is for artistic purpose. Not to be taken literal. Why are you so upset with Betty? Can you not see she got the raw end of the stick. She made several bad moves..like taking the kids over to him to show him how much work it is. He told the court she abandoned them. That was farthest from the truth.
dolds67 1 day ago
@napachild As I have pointed out several times the movie is art. Not everything in it is true. Like the kids being left alone on Dans door stop for hours at a time.It didnt happen. What kind of man honeymoons in the same place with new wife where he took first wife? What kind of man continues to be a member at a country club (when there are many) where his first wife was well known and friendly with many members and still had a membership?
dolds67 1 day ago
@napachild Did you know, Dan used the same best man for the 2nd wedding that he had used for the 1st wedding? Who does that? Did you know Linda sent a wedding invitation to Bettys parents? Wedding invites were also sent to many of Bettys good friends. While the movie shows one such friend telling Betty that she was dropping her as a friend to be friends with Dan and Linda. That never happened. Not this one friend that was depicted on the movie.
dolds67 1 day ago
@napachild I have given you several real examples of how Betty was pushed over the edge. All you can quote is the movie?I have read killers,(like the Dating game cereal killer) who get less time for raping and nearly murdering a child In my opinion,I think Betty has paid back society for her part in this. She wont ever give "dogs" a lie and say "yes, it was all me. Dan and Linda did nothing!" She has hardly had any counseling.Betty was only a danger to herself and Dan and Linda.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 She was denied parole in 2010 because she had the same narcisstic attitude she did at trial some 20+ years ago. Nothing is her fault, its all Dan and Linda, etc., etc., etc. As long as she maintains this attitude, she will stay locked up for life and that's just where she belongs. She had no concern for her kids and all except for one of them don't visit her or communicate with her. 3 out of the 4 of them sued her.
napachild 1 day ago
@napachild Have you ever read up on Narcissistic Personality?Women are naturally the center of the home.Doesnt mean they have NPD.They must be self absorbed. They have unrealistic fantasy. NPD have a need for excessive attention and admiration. Also they have disturbed interpersonal relationships. This is a loose definition. The term is used overly excessive. Few...very few people are ever diagnosed with this extreme mental illness. Its a very scary serious mental illness.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 Bettys biggest mistake was that she made the home and hearth the center of her world, as well as having it define her self esteem. Dan was the center of media, courts, clients, alumni, country club, law firm.Betty was happy to stay in the background. That was her role as it is for most women...to support the husband.Of course, she wanted to be admired for keeping and having the perfect marriage and family. Are you Catholic? Do you know what it means to be divorced? Do you know how her mom was?
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 I do think that as the divorce grew long,Betty developed a fixation.I think she was at her wits end and thought nothing but this divorce and how her life was going to change.I dont think she thought the murder out & how it would affect & effect her children. One thing everyone agreed on,Betty was a good mom and loved her kids. She lost her way thats for sureCant you see even out of jail she has lost everything? I just cant/wont blame her for everything.I think Dan and Linda were culpable.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 I just think if the parole board or any court or judge would acknowledge to Betty that they understand & realize that Dan made poor choices too.Thats all she wants, its all she has ever wanted. As I said for a metaphor, how can we kill a dog that bit a child, who teased it every day for months, and continued to tease...after being warned the dog would bite? I think Betty is very sorry, she did love Dan when he was poor. She brought out the best in him and he brought out the worst in her.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 You know--I think you're about as sick as she is. I think you should go visit her in prison and commiserate with her over all the injustices done to her. I have read the book. I don't have any different opinions or impressions as I do now. I'm sure you could make her real happy she has such a fan. Say---I've got it. You can be a character witness for her the next time she's up for parole. Bottom line--she's in prison--for life! Deal with it.
napachild 1 day ago
@dolds67 I put a considerable time into posts,Im not flying off the handle.I think that if Dan had given Betty one concession,or made it appear he lost one battle,he still won the war! I think he would be alive today.Dan could have made other choices too.If he would have given her.. fair share financially. If he would have shared the kids with custody. If he would have made his and Linda's life somewhat different, not a carbon copy of what he shared with Betty,he would still be alive.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 She killed the children's Father. They needed him.He was a big earning Attorney. He was giving Betty 16,000 Dollars monthly. That's 32,000 Dollars adjusted for inflation. She stole the life from her children that they would have lived. She's in prison like the fat assed welfare freak she is.Living on our taxes. She's not missing any meals.Honestly,it's California. They should have put this monster in the Gas Chamber.
Alexia8099 14 hours ago
@napachild I feel very strong in the case. They hardly had any money for years while she did numerous odd jobs and worked... while Dan is back in college. At one point she sold her plasma, so they could eat as she didnt want to ask her parents again for more money. When they married Dan told her he wanted to be a doctor he never prepared her for his real goal. He was in school most of their married life. Stop watching TV and pick up a book or two on the subject.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 Jurors who were on the case, said that they thought that she would only serve 10 years or so. According to the misdirection at the Judges hand. If the jurors had thought she would have still been in jail over 20 years they might have found her not guilty. Every Juror felt like Dan and Linda did push her over the edge. This movie was made by men who edited it to make Betty look like she was always mental and a loose cannon.
dolds67 1 day ago
@dolds67 To Napa Child, Her parole, was judged by a man. Yeah, I watched it too. But I also read the transcript. She does apologize. She does realize what she did. However, they want her to just act like....Dan did nothing, Linda did nothing....they were perfect and I was the bad one. I was the only one who was bad in this situation. If she would have told them what they wanted to hear...she would have been granted parole. She just cant, I dont think I could give dogs a lie either.

Was it worth it?!
BlessGod2009 2 weeks ago
For those who feel sorry for this "victim" see the next movie called "Her Final Fury" and the truth comes out. This woman had a psychosis buried within her but that's no excuse. Murder is only justified in a kill or be killed situation. If all men who cheat on or cheat their wives in any manner were murdered few would be left on this earth. Not that I excuse that either especially since some socieities allow men to kill their wives for cheating.
Star3NoLimits 3 weeks ago
@Star3NoLimits I think if their marriage was truly happy, Dan wouldn't have turned to Linda. He had in fact been miserable with her for years and didn't cheat on her until he met Linda. I can overlook that in a guy a lot more than some guys (some famous even!) that cheat on their wives over and over and who have no intention of being true to one woman. At least Dan left Betty. She didn't stay alone for long either.

mycorpy 1 month ago
@mycorpy First of all, he worked equally hard as she did. They were both driven by work and money. Since you haven't seen the sequel to this "Her Final Fury" you haven't seen what the psychiatrists talked about at trial. One said he had diagnosed her as narcissistic because she displayed all 9 characteristics used to diagnose narcissism. Since she had this personality disorder all the time she knew Dan, I can see why he left. She was a total bitch to live with.
napachild 1 month ago
@napachild I support you completely with your comment. 'mycorpy' has a very typical mindset of US women (sorry for the generalization, I am from Europe where we, women think very differently in sharing responsibilities in a relationship), and that is the sense of entitlement. It may come from Daddy raising a daughter and then 'giving' her to the husband to continue the pampering...which for me is very superficial and has no attachment to real life...
blondecat666 1 month ago
@mycorpy It is 'career', not 'carreer', and 'should have gone' instead of 'should have went'. Plus you should stop screaming. I think you have the same traces of her personality, which is very dangerous. You are only entitled to whatever you worked for on your own and got paid for. No Daddy, no husband involved.Go back to school first and learn your own mother-tongue. English is only my third language and I write it better than you do.
blondecat666 1 month ago
@mycorpy Murder cannot be justified. Her public support tells us more about a sick society than the case itself. She married an ass-hole how can anyone end up hating him after merely watching a movie about the case it's bound to be full of bias anyway.

TheShanda2011 3 weeks ago
@mycorpy You really need to see the second part of this. I can't upload it because it comes out with copyright violations. The "homewrecker" didn't get it all--at trial the prosecutor goes into great detail showing how much Betty got in alimony, child support, etc. He bought her a house in LaJolla also. He didn't owe her the rest of his life. She's the one that dropped off the kids one at a time. She's a sick narcissist.
napachild 3 weeks ago
honestly icannot find any means for sympathy with this woman, even after she got what she seemed to have wanted and got the divorce rather than living in the past and squandering her life on a man she didnt deem worth it, she could have learned from the past continued her relationship with her new boyfriend and picked up the pieces of her life. then she might have gotten a more reasonable term for custody with her children and wouldnt end up a social outcast. she just cant let go.
Venom0027 1 month ago
@Venom0027 She still can't let go today---some 20 years after she killed Dan and Linda. She was up for a parole hearing in 2010. She was denied in part because all she did was get up and rant and rave about Dan and Linda and how they had wrecked her life, yada, yada, yada! I hope she stays in prison for the rest of her life.

The marriage of Betty & Dan Broderick was a marriage of 2 narcissists. When Betty was ultimately rejected for the trophy wife, she couldn't bear it. I doubt if he would have acted the same had the shoe been on the other foot although he may have made her life hell through legal means, since he had most of the money & the power.
mmedefarge 2 months ago
@mmedefarge But I doubt seriously if the shoe had been on the other foot, Dan would have sneaked into Betty's bedroom in the middle of the night and shot her and her lover to death (she did have a lover after Dan--he still owns her house and takes care of her finances. I guess he's hoping she'll be free someday. LOL
napachild 2 months ago

@MsColleenW Please don't forget the things she did to Dan. Smashing an umbrella through his window and destroying his things and spray painting his walls. What about ramming her car through his front door? And what about Betty;s stealing Linda's guest list and calling people on it asking them not to go to the wedding? Dan and Linda might have done things to her too, but Dan and Linda didn't break into her house and destroy things or ram their car into her front door.
napachild 7 months ago
Boy is she obnoxious, I would have divorced her way before he did. All that nagging can actually drive a spouse away (man or woman), the day married people realized that would be the day divorce rate would go down at least to half of what it is now.
mcmlxvi 7 months ago
@mcmlxvi Yeah, but (sniff sniff) it wasn't HER fault (sob, sob). She was just a victim!
napachild 7 months ago
@napachild Actually after watching this movie I kind of read some articles about her and according to testimonies of her own children what you see in the movie is not even half of how abusive and intolerant she was towards her husband, she pretty much drove him insane until he finally left her. So I don't know about her being a victim. I know I wouldn't have put up with her for as long as he did.
mcmlxvi 7 months ago
@mcmlxvi Of course I was being silly! I thought you would recognize that! But I do agree with your comments. There is a book out called "A Woman Scorned" and it is very good. I have read it and agree with all the things all us RATIONAL people believe to be true. I'm just sorry I couldn't upload part 2 of the movie. Copyright. Don't know why part 1 wasn't! Just be thankful her parole was denied and she's not eligible for parole again for at least 3 years, but probably more like 15 years.
napachild 7 months ago
@napachild Well, I've been married for 25 years and I can honestly say there's a couple of times when I wanted to rip my wife's head right out of its socket. But this women did everything in the book to drive her husband away, constant nagging is a terminal decease in a marriage, young couples (specially women no offence to the ladies) should keep it in mind if they want their marriages to last.
mcmlxvi 7 months ago
I do not entirely agree with hating her, her actions were wrong, but I certainly do not thing that her treatment by her husband Dan and Linda were appropriate either. I certainly do not think much of Linda or Dan, and by all accounts he egged her on during the divorce and pushed her to extremes. Due to his legal expertise he was able to get most of her assets due her taken away and he delighted in humiliating her. He certainly did not use good judgement, and neither did Linda.
