Woo NWOBHM are awesome! Yes I agree Zeppelin aren't metal sounding. People tell me AC/DC are metal. To me that's like saying Bill Haley and his Comets are metal! Imagine that.

When Biff was interviewed by Metal Hammer (methinks) he said that back then people were denying they were heavy metal and he said it wasn't until Heavy Metal Thunder that people started to feel more of a connection. Or something. I read that in the Strong Arm of the Law re-release booklet anyway.

was no such thing as "metal" when the who in their prime mate, bands like the Who,Led Zep,Uriah Heep,Deep Purple even Status Quo are Not METAL but they sure helped to create its sound. Real metal started with Sabbath and Priest (both from Birmingham) then later the NWOBHM bands that sprung up from bedrooms, squats and garages all over the UK Saxon led these cos they already had a record deal with Carrere (french labael) Saxon rock better now than ever go check em out live ..

I hate these stupid comparisons. I was there, saw them, bought the T shirts and banged my head with the rest. To be frank, to judge both bands on two songs is pathetic.

Lost interest in Saxon after Crusader, the hair extensions were laughable but the early stuff was inspired so can't fault them there.

To say JP are soft is criminal. They are far more showy then Saxon (Biff was a bit immobile sometimes) and Glenn Tipoton, for me, is as good as anyone.

well priest did come out before saxon but priest didnt really get their sound together as we know it today till 1980, saxon got theirs together in 1980 after 1 year of recording , you cant deny saxon are a great band even judas priest and metallica are fans of them, priest are not perfect by any means or beyond criticism, point of entry is considered a disaster by the band themselves,. try saxon -lionheart cd , you will be surprised how great they are.

What I'm saying is that I saw Priest play live in '78 & '80, and that after that they stopped being 'progressive' heavy rock and the music became more simplified, straightforward and a cliche, IMHO. I didn't listen to a lot of metal in the '80s as it had lost much of the trippy stoner vibe from the '70s.
