  • Just gonna say this article is crap. Dragon Quest, Lunar, Eariler final fantasy games even. You know what they all have in common? They're all JRPG's and they are ALL set in pretty open world's. It's A ROLE PLAYING GAME! Of course having an open world to explore the universe you've set your player in is gonna be what the gamers want!!!

  • Yep saying oot is the greatest game of all time is beyond bias it's bullshit yet they under score games that are waaay more deserving. That's nintindo reviews for ya lol

  • There you go, nice to see some ppl realise that most reviews from big sites sux ass.

    1) Play the demo

    2) Rent the game, before buying

    3) Prefer gamers reviews on youtube.

  • I don't get how anyone can say, with an open world, it’s hard to tell a story. The older Final Fantasy games did it; why can't the newer ones? In fact. Final Fantasy 6,7,8,9 were SquareEnix best games ever. If only the graphics for those games were updated from 2D to 3D, and in HD… success! Of course, we want newer stories, and an evolution of the series. Here’s the truth. The newer SqareEnix teams, want to be movie producers above all else. It takes a craftsmen to create game play.

  • I think Final Fantasy 13 proved one thing though... the graphics are top of the line. The art style, music and presentation is amazing. But without strong game play, regardless of what our (paid) and (sponsored) critics hype... regardless of high scores or PR, the game will end up as a failed project, that can create damage before the next project is even released. Now everyone will be a critic; living in an age of rapid information sharing. SquareEnix might correct this come 13-2 or VS. I hope.

  • A game does not need to be open world, but it sucks when it feels like an on rails RPG. Open Worlds, or open areas are fun though. Basicly a 3d overrworld map. Even if it's to only find that one rare monster, or that one secret puzzle. The older Final Fantasys' had just that. The newer ones, rarely do. Some people could spend hours on the mini games that fit within the story, or back track to level up, not because they had to, but because they wanted to. Side stories an unlockable characters...

  • i liked XIII. It was my first time playing any final fantasy as a matter of fact, and this game got me hooked on the whole series. so I think it was mostly made the way it was to introduce the next generation gamers (such as me a 18 yr old) to the Final Fantasy world.

  • Kenpachi Fried Chicken?...

    YES :D

  • well i got the game yesterday im about 16 hours in chapter 9 so far its really good i like everything so far sure its linear but the develepers wanted u to feel exiled from the world and they wanted u to focous on the story as u progres it starts to open up in some arias when i play an rpg i dont go off exploring much i just wanna go do the missions so i dont care about how linear it is and btw the cgi cutscenes are incredible im defenetly getting 13-2

  • I was critical of FF13 - I wasnt all that happy with the lack of the things I love - towns, villagers etc....

I still have a playtime of 80 hours on it though. I will also buy FF13-2 as soon as it's released.

  • My friends told me not to get Final Fantasy 13 cause people said it was crap, I bought it played it and loved it. You can't judge a game until you've actually played it through and given it a chance. I do find Sqaure-Enix's response suprising about the RPGS that drop you in, and you do what you want considering thats exactly what Final Fantasy 14 Online did - dropped you in the deep end with no clue what to do. I still think Grandia (1996) outclassed Final Fantasy 9 (2000) in every way.

  • NICE KENPACHI WALL PAPER!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • ff13 = most worthless piece of shit excuse for a FF. It's actually baffling. Especially when 12 was leaps and bounds better in every single way.

  • Didn't have an open world? FFXIII didn't even have an open CORRIDOR! That game was one big straight line for 20 hours. I'm sorry, but that IS bad game design; western or not.

  • @SoundsOfAndromeda For today, yes, yes it is.

  • @SoundsOfAndromeda You mad bro?

  • I agree about the reviews it's the same for movies. Good thing i have my own opinions about FF XIII. As a Die-Hard-FF-Fan I bought it even though ppl complained about not having an open world. And loved every minute played.

  • @SeguLive I love you for saying that :D

  • @SeguLive as a die hard ff fan, i'm almost prepared to say that ff13 is the black sheep of the franchise

i respect your opinion all, but imo, the gameplay just doesnt live up to the quality we're used to getting from FF

looking at it as a stand-alone game, it's decent, but as part of the FF series, it falls short

  • well i played 30 hrs into ff13 and as a long time ff fan i can honestly say that ff13 is A PIECE OF SHIT GAME.

  • i want that kenpachi poster!!!!

  • 0:16..... lol WTH?

  • I never played a Western RPG, and I still think FF13 was terrible........

  • im just happy square enix knows its a crap game

  • @BadBackBeast It's not really crap. It's just different from most Final Fantasy games. I actually like it quite a bit.

  • per se

  • bleeatch sux. Will the real Dragon Ball Z please stand up??

  • If you think FF13 is horrible try FF11 or FF4 online these 2 games are worse then FF13 could ever be. FF4 online is hands the worst FF game released to date you will die of frustration trying to level or get anywhere meaningful in that game. Once that has happen you will play FF13 with smile and open arms knowing that kind of insanity is not in FF13.

  • some ppl hate ff13 cuz they're jealous cuz it's much better than ff7

  • Stfu! You are an idiot!

  • OMG ITS BARRET!! ;D

  • damn that poster of kenpachi is awesum

  • Sure we westerners like open world games, but that is just an excuse by Square Enix for their shitty game. They should take into consideration that the rest of their series has been generally positively received in America. This is their fist ill received game and they are blaming us for it. No, Square Enix, you should make a game with game play, story, and level development that meets the high expectations they hold for their graphics.

Final Fantasy XIII Was nothing but a pretty light show.

  • I FCKEN AGREE!

people focus too much on the cons, rather then the achivements the game has!

    ~introduced new battle system

    ~graphics are off the chart

    ~story line is fcken epic

    ~imo, 13 is the new 7.

  • I agree with you. Games very under rated lake Sonic Heroes or Shadow the Hedgehog really amused me a lot. It's not as funny as other games, but hey, it's not THAT crap they say it is (2006 really is, I agree with that). Reviewers are now very elitists with poor foundation obssessed with their nostalgic childhood or what crap inspirs their overcriticisms.

  • correct, but FFXII had it mostly right. why change if it ain't broken. plus, XIII was MADE for the dumb american Xbox idiots. that ruined it.

so don't blame the west, you fucked up enix by choosing Xbox.

  • He has a point, also Game reviews are usually by people who think they are hardcore and usually overcritical so sometimes the review doesn't reflect what a normal joe would think of the game anyway.. eg no one gives a f*ck if there is like a glitch in the secret bit no one can get to.

  • Gamerankings/metacritic is the most effective way of determining how good a game is without actually playing the game or playing a demo of the game. Simple as that..

  • I love all these people who say XIII is an easy game. They're hilarious, because it's so obvious they didn't play the game beyond chapter three.

  • @MegaShadowrunner I played the entire game, and it was still easy. The battle system is for 12 year olds. The level-up system is utter trash. What's the point of grinding your guys up if all you do is get level-capped? Even worse is your not even close to their stongest point when you face Orphan.

  • i got it cause i like the final fantasy games i don't care what people say. :P

  • @ProjectDecade I think the biggest part of the problem I have with the newer FF's is, when people talk about the positive points like you just did.. It sounds like you're talking about a movie, not a game.

I've played all FFs from the start, and I still like the newer ones it just feels like they keep stripping away game elements and replacing them with prettier effects and cutscenes.

  • @ProjectDecade FFXIII's story was good, it just wasn't great imo. After playing nearly all Final Fantasies before it (excluding spinoffs, MMO's, and FFV) I've come to expect incredible stories in all Final Fantasies. In fact, the concept of XIII's story is perhaps one of the best in the series, but I feel like SE could have made it more shaking and interesting, a story that made you want to stay up until 2 in the morning just to find out what happens next, such as VII's.

  • I 100% agree with you on game reviews my man.

  • Linearity isn't a problem if a great story comes with it. FFXIII didn't do this. That's why linearity sucked in this game. Also, I WANT MAH TOWNZ BACK!

  • That western excuse was one of the most wack and most cheesy excuse i have ever heard does Square Enix realize most of us western players have been playing JRPGS since Dragon Warrior and FF1 and they have the nerve to use that as a excuse Bad Square Enix Bad Square Enix Indeed.

  • You took the words right out of my mouth. The whole "Why did they like this but not that when they are basically the same thing." was something I encountered a lot when watching reviews. I also hate it when they completely hate on a new IP because of a feature or a small flaw, but if God Of War, Halo, Gears Of War or some other big title has that same problem..they ignore it and give the game a great review. That's why I don't listen the the opinion part of a review.

  • Although you have a great point There are twi things I want to point out:

1: If you buy game because it has something in particular that interests you, it's also bias. That being said, your message was clear.

2: In the case of FFXIII, most reviews were not about a "western point of view". Most arguments were made as a reference to previous installments of the franchise. So I see SE just putting up some defense like: "Oh gee it's not our fault you didn't like it."

  • KENPACHI FRIED CHICKEN!!!!

  • Nice Kenpachi poster on the background...

  • That's why I love "renting games". Rent it! Like it? Hate it? Buy it? The main point out of all it, is that you can try it, before you buy it. Do I agree with the reviews on FFXIII? To a certain extent. It wasn't a bad game, but damn for sure wasn't a great game. And WRPG, and no story? I guess someone from SE hasn't play DA or ME yet.

  • @doublenono88 I don't know what DA and ME stand for, so I can't comment on those in particular, however, I have been noticing for some time now that western audiences are obsessed with the idea that "non-linear" automatically means better. And like SE, I've also noticed that those games tend to have shallow, simplistic, and boring naratives. Besides, SE didn't say it was impossiple, just that it was difficult. Personally, I'll take a well developed plot and characters over a world map.

  • I read reviews, but in the end most likely purchase the game anyway. When you care too much about reviews pointing out the bad things, you start to look for those things while you're playing the game. That's not going to make you like the game any more. For those hating on FFXIII, you guys probably read all the reviews and still bought it and complained more. What's the point of buying it then. It might not have been the best game, but if you're a Final Fantasy fan, live with it.

  • While I do agree with you I have to say Square Enix is slipping. Back when I was playing Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger and before the merger with Enix their games were almost flawless. Now it really does seem like all they care about are cut scenes, melowdrama and mind numbingly easy game play. FF XIII in particular cemented that for me. Sorry but SE needs to get their act together and stop milking their cash cow. In the mean time I'm defecting to Atlus & Nippon Ichi.

  • I dont think Square Enix has played alot of western RPGs if they think all of our RPGs are open world. I love western RPGs much more then eastern.

  • square was goin bankrupt so they decided to release ff xiii by just throwing in a quick story, six characters, and as little control for the player, sure the graphics were great but im not looking for graphics im looking for a catching story along with some hardcore gaming god ffxiii was named the game of the month during its release but ff fans just saw it as a let down

  • i formed my own opinion and came to the conclusion that i agree with the review scores

  • Lol sorry but i only cliekd here b/c i saw kenny fried chicken poster, and that he was black LOL sorry i just roflmaod b/c of tht

  • i totally agree with you. my only two cents is that i do watch some reviews, a few, and i picked these few because they review what i want to know, and personally help me sometimes decide if the game is what i want. most of the time, im getting the game because i want it, bad reviews or not

  • coolness you have a kenpachi KFC poster i'm so going to steal that :O

  • Here, here! Well said, great vid!

  • very insightful! The one thing I think though, is it was a damn good thing SE made FFXIII three different games! Because, FFXIII seemed more like a test run for Versus. I'm telling you Versus is going to be quite an adventure- probably unlike vii-x, but just as good (yet better, because of the technological advantages!). It's going to be an exhileration. I will buy all things relative to Versus.

But yeah- SE definately made a mistake by making VIII so cheesy. That's what it was. Cheesy.

  • @salasvalor01 not VIII so cheesy! sorry! I meant to say XIII. Damn it, VIII was one of the best!

  • if square thinks that you cannot make an open world rpg with a compelling story, someone needs to smack them with the a copy of any bioware game or a fallout game.

  • You can barely call FFXIII a RPG.... no character progression, corridor based maps,

dull repetetive combat system. No exploring, interacting with people, quests

or ANYTHING that ressembles a RPG western or japanese.

  • @gmflashmx Final Fantasy XIII is the ONLY Final Fantasy and ONLY JRPG that the more I read and heard about the less interested I became and my JRPG experience goes back to the NES days. Even the bad ones when explaining the good points peek my interest. FFXIII whenever the good points are described to me they always sound superficial. Maybe what you describe explains why.

  • @gmflashmx All too true! This was the greatest let down ( besides PSP GO.) But you see this happening in just about any game franchise. For example Pokemon. The older, more hardcore fans are getting tired of the wierder and wierder looking pokemon and extream changes to things like gear. That is why alot of them are picking up there old red and blue versions. But because they still love Pokemon they will go out and get the new games, for the most part.

  • @ZabiLightning Kenpachi > all

  • trying to say the reviews are low because western gamers are looking from a "western gamer perspective" is just completely lame. western audiences have been buying and loving final fantasy games for many many years so its not as if weve all been playing oblivion and never seen a damn jrpg before. seriously is that the best they could do?

  • Expecting a review of any piece of media is going to be objective is silly. In any case, the vast majority of the reviews for FFXIII were quite generous, so I can't understand how Toriyama could make that suggestion, and how you could use that as an impetus for making this video. FFXIV, by contrast is getting deservedly poor reviews. What excuse does one of the largest publishers in the world have for releasing such a shoddy, half-assed, unfinished product?

  • Those lights are so cool, it's like your playing tetris but you're not

  • Heh, found this a few months late, but whatev. XD Ya know, you're right. People do go by game reviews too much nowadays. Personally, I liked FF13 (when I watched is a walkthrough on here XD playing it was a whole different story DX how my friend understands the directions with that crap TV of hers I will NOT know!). Heck, I like the FF series in general. I just don't like 11 and 14 cause they're online and make you pay to play.

Also, was that a Kenpachi Zaraki pic to your right in this vid?! 8D

  • oh man i have the game, but i haven't played it only played the first 15 minutes and stopped saved it. Haven't play it since can't wait play it. I know it ain't nothing new but oh well. Have you finished it.

  • Thanks for mentioning metacritics.

  • Final Fantasy13 is just to fucking Hard!!! I mean if you die on a boss more than 20 times you have a tendency to just stop playing and stop giving a damn about the game. I really like the gameplay and the story but Square Enix just made that game unbelievably difficult and that's why I couldn't ever finish the game as much as I wanted to.

  • @swamp345 its not as hard as u initially think. just cos its linear u have to backtrack in alot of areas to level up more to be strong enough to handle the bosses.

  • I think the reviews for FFXIV are a lot nicer than they should have been..

  • Reviews are often pretty accurate.

It's sad to see Square Enix doesn't listen to the players, OVER AND OVER AGAIN!

    -Sad FFXIV owner

  • @MrHankeyy dude that games blows me....jobs are the same, no interaction, ppl are fucking zombies....FUCK...

  • I think its something Bioware has called out on Square Enix on actually, Bioware is the perfect example of a company that manages to balance open world and putting emphasis on story, especially in Mass Effect 2 really

  • game trailers reviews are the worst. the site had to deal with lots of controversies. i don't watch gametrailers anymore. sucks

  • I don't get it there was open worlds in past final fantasies. Granted though that isn't what makes me a final fantasy fan. What makes me a final fantasy fan is the story. The story in 13 was good but it didn't have any big climax to it. I don't know maybe it did but it just didn't wow me enough. There could've been a better villain too. I wished that there were minigames to play at nautilis park as well. I loved the soundtrack though!

  • hahaha kinda funny but your opinion is yours , still a cool game and so was 11 , ffxi for life =)

  • here's my experience of playing FF13:

    'ZZzzzZZzzZZz.....hmmm, O! im still fighting, *spam X button x10000*

hmmm, a black guy with a gun

    (3-10 hours of cutscenes later)

    WTF!?!?!....another tutorial???!? GOoOoDDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!

*thought process the enitre game* Lightning + Vanille + me = threesome XD

'if i can win the blitzball tournament i'll get wakka's attack reelz...oops! wrong game!'

can't believe i bought that strategy guide combo -_-

  • @Pancakes23 i think u'll need it later on in the game lol......

  • imagine what's Square's reaction now after the negative reviews for XIV now

  • @ShootStyleZombie Like i said in my previous comment on here,SquareEnix are either getting lazy or just tired of making Final Fantasies.

  • When it comes to reviews, I usually just take them with a grain of salt and that's because reviewers aren't some robot figure that can automatically analyze and determine what it good and bad. They are people, and there is bound to be disagreements and biases present, sometimes even flat out wrong statements.

As for FFXIII, it seems the only thing people didn't like was it being linear. Haven't played it, but I personally think I would really like it.

  • As for the Sqaure Enix statement, well that's typical. They felt shocked that it didn't get almost perfect scores, so they felt the need to justify the reviews, when the truth is that it was just too linear. Love it or hate it, nobody can deny the fact that the game is extremely linear, and if they actually take feedback from this game, I'm positive they will make improvements in the future.

  • Is the same olf ff game same cool characters nice story nice graphics etc etc. it was great long time ago now we have more options these days , rpgs with open worlds, side quests minigames, different kind of batle engines etc , the point is they need think out of the box, they still give us same old school formula but I guess is time to take risks, now square got real competition these days is time to try other things and see other games, bcause you are not top dog now

  • Greetings Bwana. I just discovered your "show" by accident so to speak!

And related to the topic i have to say it`s a surprisingly dumb statement to say "Western reviewers have a western point of view" ....ehhhh?

Anyway - i am glad to hear again somebody addressed the rotten state of the review department nowadays. And i would say there probably are cases of corruption. Just think about the amount of money involved today. Is it hard to imagine some of them "wielding the power" are bought?

  • The true reason why us Westerners didn't liked Final Fantasy XIII,

Four main reasons why FFXIII dissappointed.

    1.Watered-down gameplay and physics

2.The massive stripped content of a true final fantasy

3.Runs on rails like a 80's action game

4.Level-capping system and next to no progression

  • @onyxknight008 And incredibly linear gameplay.

  • @killerbumble Oh yeah,I totally forgot that demerit.lol

I am at the moment, enjoying Final Fantasy 4 and 5.I also got 6,7,8

    and 10.

  • This is like a late response but what the heck. Companies blame their ineptitude to all sorts of things. FF13 was the first FF game I ever played. I liked the graphics and the combat system. I played about 8 hours, but the story just seemed cliche and was completely linear. I had thought reviewers were exaggerating there. Valkyria Chronicles is a JRPG which had a somewhat linear story, but you had a lot of freedom there while introducing a new combat system with incredible visuals.

  • @gamercat86 Get FF 7. Best. Game. Ever.

  • @killerbumble Well, I don't really like grid-based RPG's, so FF7 is a no go. However, I admit that every time I log on to PSN to check out releases for PS one, I get tempted to download that game. The one game I'm crossing my fingers to appear there is Parasite Eve II. I couldn't finish it because my memory card died on me and it wasn't mine. I could get it from amazon, but they're asking a crazy amount for that game even though they're not new.

  • @gamercat86 Please try it! The graphics aren't that good but the game is awesome!

  • ffxiii sucked, even the japs hated it.

  • While what you say is true, you can't deny that fact the this particular has bad reviews almost completely across the board. This is American AND Japanese sites giving it bad reviews, so that can't even use that "western" excuses for FFXIV

  • Comment removed

  • im not western & i disliked FF13's story it was childish & had a worn out message... i saw lots of Illuminati shit goin on there<<my POV

& if that guy is talkin about how to pick your game he's right about not relying on ppl's opinions but for me i just take a look at the gameplay & the story & swiftly make the decision,,

but i enjoyed that the females were hot as usually shown in FF,,

  • Funny how Square-Enix blames Western audiences for not liking FF13 because it was so linear, when that's why so many RPGs weren't released in North America in the 80s and 90s.

Dragon Warrior and FF1 hardly had any story at all, were all about level grinding and part of the reason they felt we weren't "smart" enough for RPGs.'

I dislike FF13 because of the battle system, mainly. That, and the story was very weak.

  • @bamapagedesign SquareEnix lost it's best guns and soul.

Sakaguchi,Nobou and other key players.SquareEnix are going to take Final Fantasy down a spiral path into the ground.

  • You're a very smart man, sir. I've lost count of how many games that have come out recently that range from great to absolutely wonderful, but a bunch of pompous mainstream trend-setters and internet-goers fanatically trash any chance the game has of succeeding, because people don't think for themselves or think critically. Thank you for your talk here.

  • good stuff i like what you say in this video

  • ff 13 is good

  • @MySpearOwnz totally UNCALLED for, WTF?!?!? thumbs up if you agree

  • I visit review sites so I can get a general idea of the game before I buy it. But I also watch gameplay videos on Youtube and read player reviews on sites like Gamefaqs and Amazon as well.

If a game looks interesting to me, gets generally positive reviews and I enjoy watching the gameplay vids then I'll probably take a chance on the game and buy it. I play mostly PS2 games though so renting them isn't always an option.

  • You know what? First people bitch about wanting something different and how similar a game was to it's prequel. Then they get something different and they bitch about how it didn't live up to it's title and didn't feel like they were even playing that particular title. But hey I guess you can't satisfy everyone.

  • Fuck game reviews. I dont care about other peoples opinions on a game..I never listen to them. If Im interested in a game, either I rent it , or watch a video on youtube, or download a demo.

FFXIII wasnt bad, I just wasnt 100% crazy about certain things.

  • fucking horrible "game", downhill the quality has gone

  • You right bout the bias bro, I read most of the Jap reviews and they all gave it like a 9.9 or 10, and I read the Western reviews and it averaged something like 8.5, personally I give it an 8.271. Game story isn't that bad but it's not great either, it's linear as hell, and if they gonna bitch about Western double standards, they better come up with a better storyline next time minus all those lame ass dialogues that treats you like a retard, at times it's like I am revising FF8 retard moments.

  • The game didn't get just bad reviews from the western audience but also in Japan.

  • All reviews are biased, everyone has their personal bias and there is no such as doing things in a vacuum such as reviewing things. Thats kind of a fallacy really. But you're right that people shouldn't be basing their playing of a game on soley on reviews and that experience with it is better. But people dont have time or the money to play every game that comes out to develop their own opinion on it. So reviews serve their purpose.

  • I'm an old school gamer and grew up playing the original final fantasy games. For the longest time I held final Fantasy VI as the greatest of all time. This was the first final fantasy I played that I didn't try and compare it to FFVI. I was pleased by that. If you haen't played it yet do so soon before FFXIII Versus hits stores.

  • Comment removed

  • Alot of the gamers saying they hate this game are the ones who hold Final Fantasy VII as the greatest Final Fantasy game of all time. I have played final fantasy XIII and beat it and am still playing it. I really enjoed the story and the characters stories (sub-plots) I felt it flowed well and kept me intrested and invovled. The music in the game also helps to setting the mood to certain parts of the game. I was a little disappointed with how short the story was could have been longer.

  • i think i create a better plotline&storyline than the final fantasy series

  • @gaserlazer12 Lolz Me too. xD

Last month, I opened up Microsoft Word and began rewriting the whole FF13 story because I thought that I could do better. Sadly, it turns out that I can.

  • Dude I tried this man, I tried. When Suikoden III came out, good review I bought it.

Persona 3 came out great review I bought it.

Persona 4, great review I bought it.

Suikoden IV came out, horrible review, and yeah, I bought it. That game was the biggest waste of money, what a piece of junk. I played the first ten hours or so when i realized the game was making me angry not entertaining me. Reviews are necessary, trust reviews, if 2K people vote 9/10 (eg gamespot), its a good game.

  • Yeah, would having towns make any sense in this story? People really don't like change at all. People cling to the past so much. They can't appreciate anything! Just a bunch of spoiled gamers.

  • Ok here is my personal perspective the independent thought from my own brain about Final Fantasy 13 compare to other FF.

Toooooo Stars War crap, is FF13 a scifi genre or fantasy genre cause I'm confuse now. What is summon? they are powerful spirit being, divine/demonic, that can be summoned to fight. Not a robotic car that is built inside a cybernetic factory. You see the problem here?

Square's response is an ridiculous excuse to cover the fact that they reduced development cost.

  • I am personally am completely dissatisfied with this game, no towns, bad battle system, and they shove the storyline down your throat. Auto-Battle was Awful, fights consisted of mashing X for Auto-battle and switching paradigms. The graphics were pretty great... it does not compare well up next to previous final fantasy games, and I believe square enix is only getting worse. Final Fantasy XIV a subscription MMORPG is simply just another RPG like WoW, AoC, Warhammer, or any other.

  • i love Japaness RPGs higher level of character and scale

  • and towns isnt rly what makes a game good. disgaea, Persona, Mana Khemia, all those game have prety much 1 single town if u can call it a town, got as much grinding as old ff but with a nice developed story with alot of funny dialogues.

actualy i just dont get why ppl always request meaningless stuff like towns, huge map to explore, character customization (im only implying the physic here) and........ towns?

  • actualy i did hate other ff, i cant continue on the first one cuz im lost and dont remember what they told me to do last, same for the 7, and i dont know why so many ppl like ff7, the start seems prety linear to me and then u get in the world map which adds absolutely nothing to the game, just to get u lost, and exploring? its just plain flat, i had more fun exploring in zelda

  • Their comment that western reviewers are used to rpgs having a big open world where you have some degree of freedom makes no sense. The first few final fantasy games were all about explorations, towns, etc. That's what made those games interesting. They took the things that would've made this game fun and replaced it with a bunch of cinematics and fancy graphics. Final Fantasy 13 isn't a game, it's an interactive movie. I couldn't play more than 2 hours of this boring ass game.

  • I hate people who complain about having no towns in ff13. In the game all the main characters are outcasts and must go into hiding. There is no point in them running into a town and getting caught.

  • @tmanly256 Finally someone who's smart enough to pay attention to the story. THANK YOU.

  • like that guy in the video said, north americans need a feel of complexity in their games. FF13 was just another kind of game and they did well. It would be like complaining about a slow pace movie and saying that the action scenes are too much spread out. would have been kinda dumb to remake the whole game to please more ppl.

  • @foufoufun0 It's not about what North Americans expect from a game, it's that Final Fantasy 13 is completely different even when you compare it to previous releases. Even FF1 had more freedom, towns, the ability to explore, and is more challenging than FF13.

  • lol u know what? FF XIII was actualy the only FF I truly enjoyed. I just dont like games that give us a huge world with tons of side quests... so much random content that you dont know what to do with it. I better like raw story telling. And character customization is quite useless if u playing alone. (seems like every western games gives us that, who are you gonna show it off to?) If you want to role play, do it with friends.

  • @foufoufun0

true, but it is still: a game. People didn't buy FF13 ONLY for a story. and ff13 pretty much only story, and the fighting is just there for you to "unlock" the next part of the story. There's not much "game" about this

  • @foufoufun0 Then you must've hated the previous FF games because they offered the ability to explore worlds, had towns, character customization, etc.

  • final fantasy was kind of depressing

  • so true it is. as for ffxiii in my opinion it does not rate high up there, I have been a fan since the first one game out many moons ago, Seems to me the story line is poor so far I have 21 hours logged in and I am not impressed at all, second for some reason I dont like the battle system, seems to me there is to much way to much of nothing

  • That's so good what you said, you are totally right. Big blacky. ;)

  • lol kenpachi KFC!!!

  • I never rely on reviews, because my opinion is the only one I can trust. Having played FFXIII....I can tell everyone that it's damn good. Amazing graphics, intruiging storyline...but I DO agree with the reviews about the linearity. With the exception of X, no other FF game was linear. It's ALWAYS had a world map, and that's what the fans enjoyed. IDK why they took it away for X and XIII.

  • @Jeffieboi So, you would spend money on something that has review scores of say, under 6.0/10.0?

I think under those type circumstances, I could trust IGN or Gamespot.

  • @Triangled I dont think that's a good idea to be a sheep and follow the crowd but i think it's a pretty good game all in all.

  • I agree with whats said in this video. I love all the Final Fantasy games. All my friends told me FFXIII was terrible since it was so linear. I gave it a chance anway, played through it, and was rather impressed. The game opens up a lot twoards the end. Although it may not be the best FF in the series, I found it very impressive. Besides, who CARES if it wasnt the very best final fantasy....it's still pretty good. How can you pass up a FF game??

  • think for yourself basically I've played many games that have been under attack by review sites and they were actually its not hard for a company to say take 500 dollars and say my games are the best.

  • Square Enix criticising western RPGs for being too open - every final fantasy before 10 was exactly like that, and guess what? THOSE are the classics!

  • i wish id seen a ffxiii game review before i wasted my money on that shit.

  • @MrLiam55555

Fuck you. The game is great.

  • @grievousrocks you cant do anything in it apart from run down corridors and watch boring cutscenes...the characters are annoying and it takes more than good graphics to make a good game.

  • @MrLiam55555 true as hell

  • yo,

I wanna rant on Final Fantasy XIII and i wish i had someone telling this to me b4 I spent my money on this "SHitty Game".

here's what sux and what rocks in FFXIII:

    rocks- It looks cool

the fights are super fast and you have to use your brain to win

Sux- you can't move in combat

you work so hard for the game and it just doesn't give you anything back.

No gill, no super cool usful wepons or armor or something

they show you a cool spaceship cutscene, why the fuck can't i fly the spaceship?!?

  • @Mooshonov

Of course you can't move in combat, what is the point? Do you mean in like Kingdom Hearts? You get things back, and what do you mean? It's a game, for entertainment purposes. You can buy stronger weapons, and different accessories to use as a boost, and why would you want to fly a spaceship?! You didn't even play the game yet, so shut the fuck up.

  • @GmanNova Dude, the game sux, I played like 23 hours of it (like 60% in)

you can upgrade your wepons but it's way more expensive than you can accumilate (if you wanna upgrade everyone) I know it's for entertainment but it's just not fun! FFVII was fun with all the mini games side missions and True character development. FF went to the shit's since 10 came out with all the endless talking about there fucking feelings. no twists no surprises no gold saucer!!!find the fucking baby chocobo my ass!!!

  • @Mooshonov

Avoid? All you need to do is heal yourself, it just isn't your type of game. Just play some gay ass Call of Duty so you can just shoot people, faggot. Entertainment is suppose to keep you occupied, but I guess you wasted your time. And the captain is the character you play as, it's not like you get to play as the other character randomly, idiot. And if Lightning dies the game is freaking over, dumbshit.

  • @GmanNova such dirty little troll fingers on ya huh manga nerd, well, first off i have been playing RPGs since 95 and one of the only reasons i stick with sony is cuz of games like FF, but noone can deny that FF ha been going downhill since 7...get with the universe little guy, the captain methos is just non rpg, youre supposed to be managing a group not auto piloting...theres a fucking auto button on the game for brainless trolls that can't calculate an attack. FFXIII sux & noone likes it but u

  • @Mooshonov

An auto-attack button for people like you?

  • @Mooshonov Thats all fine, and FF7 was my favorite in the series, but listen guy, its over. That game is old. Gotta move on. XIII is far from the best FF. I played through it however. It opens up completely at then end, but it is still missing some things you might want: shops, towns, etc. However, its still the best JRPG on ps3 ya know? Ya, its linear, but its worth playing through. I hear there is more to come related to FFXIII...better break out your ff7 cause your most likely f*cked.

  • @GmanNova and why use movement you ask?! so you could avoid getting all your characters attacked at once...duhh, and the whole thing where if the captain dies you lose the game...wtf?!? it's a bad engine, with annoying footsteps and nice graphics

  • @Mooshonov Your kinda forgetting that in every FF but XII you can't move in combat. And don't drag me into the fight im just making a point

  • Great video! Nice to hear some common sense.

Reviews (especially video reviews) can be valuable in finding out more about a game and what it's like to play it, though numerical scores are often less helpful. The bigger commercial gaming websites and magazines often rely on scores, but are also usually the most biased, unhelpful, or just plain unknowledgeable.

I think it's best to find a few experienced sources you can trust, and stay away from the biggest sites out there.

  • @Fyrebrand666 ...oh, and just wanted to also add: A lot of the time, there are really great games out there that receive glowing critical reviews, yet still sell poorly due to their obscurity, lack of marketing, or because they are too different from what's popular at the time. So, again, reviews aren't everything.

  • Listen very well you gorilla, you can actually avoid biased reviews only to TRY FOR YOURSELF THAT THIS GAME ITS TRULY CRAP, how can you beat that, this means your video is useless.

Square will lose credibility, wait a moment, it is losing credibility.

¿You want facts that this game sucks? play it and let me know.
