The confusion over the monsters name vs the creators name began back when the novel was published! The fact is, the creation was never given a name in any of the incarnations. It simply was called either "work", "creation", "monster", and finally "Frankenstein's Monster". but throughout the ages it has always been called by lay people as Frankenstein.

@alexp9999 Ed Wood, An irony is that Frankenstein director James Whale didn't want Lugosi to play the monster and gave Lugosi the idea that he would be playing a mindless thing that did nothing but walking around and grunting making no mention of moments like the drowning of Maria, along with a Jack Pierce makeup test that had Lugosi looking more like the creature from 'The Golem' than what Whale and Pierce had in mind for Karloff.
