@lolipuf, I coincidentally stumbled on this video embedded on another site while doing a search for work by James Book (now that received my copy of "New York School Abstract Expressionists Artists Choice by Artists, I'm now looking for more by the artists of whom I'm less familiar). Thanks for posting this!
I am very happy that the video on James Brooks made a difference and helped in your artistic expression. There are other videos as well please look up abstract expressionism 1950s on YouTube. Very best regards.
Thanks for sharing this; I've always been really influenced by Pollock, and a friend of mine recommend I look up Brooks. I'm amazed I've never heard of him. I have always been an acrylic painter as well, but when he said changing mediums helps him develop I wondered why I never thought of that and why I limited myself. I'm going to pick up some oils today :P thanks for sharing this and spreading his influence :D
I feel privileged for the opportunity to make a difference in your painting. Oil paint may provide more breath to the painting. Acrylic may be flat but provides a certain boldness.
This is tremendous. JB may have never attained the name recognition of other AbEx painters, such as Pollock or de Kooning, but I feel his importance can hardly be overstated. His painting has always spoken very directly to me.
I am not an artist, but may be I can say something which is based on my observation.
When a good artist dies, then the emotion hidden in the painting tend to surface to the highest level and that what makes them valuable.

It is important to preserve American art history not only for us but for future generations.
We are all in it together.
