Not being said in a bragging way, but i am 15 and a great artist. Im jst going to say now, its very hard to LEARN shading and perspective, depth, etc etc. I was born with the talent and 90% of artists are. If you want to seriously learn, and arent that great at art, take a few real lessons. Dont watch videos. And never use your fingers to blend.. Use a blending stick.

Sure you can use your finger to shade... if you're desperate. However, if you have better options (a blender, tissue, q-tip, etc) I suggest you'd stick to those.

Don't ever use your finger, except if you want to look your drawing like some bad kitsch photo ripoff.

Learn the basics first. Like proportions. Drawing cubes and cylinders. Then proceed to portraits. Learn how to draw anatomy properly.

And don't draw from photos, just if it's really necessary. Else all your pictures will look dead.

PLEASE change the ANGLE of the CAMERA so the pencil strokes and defining shapes aren't distorted! Its not good trying to teach the intricacies of proportion without clearly showing the image on a flat and proper perspective.

great video, but NEVER blend with your hands: the oils from your skin reacts and leaves those little dotty-things which are virtually impossible to get rid of. Facial tissues are good for large areas, some soft rubbers are good, but i use tortillons which are paper-rolls, and can be bought from most art supply shops

@vacuumpacked I've been drawing for years, I have a blender tool and everything, Nothing wrong with useing your finger, the same Focus on your tissue is as your finger. Yes it will give you a softer look but it doesn't really matter.

@atndybeach It really does matter. You may gain a soft look from using your finger to blend, but you'll get an even better outcome using a folded tissue or a blending stump. Although, the main reason is that your skin contains oils that will ruin your paper and drawing. You can smudge graphite with your finger all you like, but repeated contact with your finger will result in disaster and mess.
