  • The 1st color TV program was an NBC special of Alice In Wonderland in 1953. Bonanza was the first all clor regular series.. Some shows were filmed in color long before that but never shown in color till later years. They were the Adventures of Wild Bill Hickock W/ Guy Madison. Cisco Kid-All episodes, Superman-half of them, Gene Autry show-2 seasons. I don't know of any others. Bozo started on WGN Chicago and then went into local syndication around the country.

  • Great record. I haven't heard this one before.

  • Always loved this song after I first heard it on Hi Lits gold oldies album

    Dave Z

  • Thanks for posting an amazing song, first time I've heard this and it really moved me. That said, I'm not sure I agree with those lamenting the state of modern music; one couldn't make a song like this today, it would sound dated and derivative. There's lots of good new music, but it reflects our current cultural and musical sensibilities--there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, if people were still making music like this, this song wouldn't be so special!

  • Great song, it's from the 70s but it has a very late 50s/early 60s Motown sound, like along the lines of Jackie Wilson or Major Lance. I gotta agree with the description, had this been realeased before 1967, this would've been a hit.

  • i love sedaka, but these guysdo it even better

    love it

  • Love this song!!!

I take it most of you posters are not familiar with the Hanna-Barbera cartoon show from 1970.

The Archies' masterminds Don Kirshner & Jeff Barry were behind the musical part of the show, and Neil Sedaka and Howard Greefield wrote a few of the tracks on the Kirshner album.

You should try to catch some of the old episodes on Boomerang or Cartoon Network.

BTW; two more killer tracks from that album are "Bouncing All Over The World" & "Gravy". . .

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! ..........use to request it every day, when my old man was in NAM, was hoping he knew how much i missed him, and how much I wanted to see him. No such thing as i-phones, nothing, I had to rely on letters, ............no e-pad's, or cell-phones, just, OVER-AND-OUT.....

  • @TOMAN4EVER We didn't have a tenth of what we have now, but you were king of the streets if you owned a Transister Radio & I did, a little white Emerson. Our phone was on a party line w/ my neighbor who loved to talk. A 1948 Chevy Ice-Cream truck that came by around 6:00PM was the big treat. All the kids in the neighborhood played Hide-Go-Seek every night. Bozo was the 1st color TV program, then Bonanza. We didn't have much as compared 2 today, but life was simple, fun & now, cherished!

  • @dowopper51 ......sound's familiar! God I want those day's back, so sweet!!!!

  • @dowopper51 doowopper51, hi it's tom d brick,nj.[doowopman49]. i really think that kukla, fran and ollie was the first "color program" however i may be confusing that with NBC NEWS . for me it's about a F-A-D-I-N-G memory and you're probably right.

  • @dowopper51 I will never forget the 60's, they were the BEST!!!!

  • @dowopper51 finally raining today, not much, but I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dowopper51....I can remember it all.......come home when the street lights come on......yeah we had it all.

  • wow dowopper51, you certainly are an arrogant asshole !!

  • My father sang this to me when I was a little girl. :)

  • It's raining today here in VA., think I'll call in a request to hear this song, best song ever!!!!

  • You can all thank the Great Neil Sedaka for this and many other great Rock music..

  • Just became aware of this song today when Jerry Blavat played it on the radio. Good God Almighty...what a great record. It's such a shame that today's music bears absolutely no resemblance to this fantastic songwriting and singing. God bless the talented people who gave us great songs like this.

  • @tortolafan

" It's such a shame that today's music bears absolutely no resemblance to this fantastic songwriting and singing. God bless the talented people who gave us great songs like this." I couldn't agree more my friend! This is why we have to keep this music alive and strong. I thank God for every poster & listener out there & mostly YT. for allowing this music to live again!

  • @dowopper51 As long as songs like this are being uploaded and played, it won't die or be forgotten and maybe we can hope for the future.

  • @tortolafan .....could not agree more!!!! Great song!

  • What can I say....Just awesome harmony

  • It finally rained in Virginia, played this "tape" all day, love it.....love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey there, DW51, I knew Little Walter! He played countless obscure records from some greater-Boston radio stations long ago, and even released some of these oldies on records for us to buy. Loved Walter's shows, and miss them a lot now. This is an awesome song that I had on a 45 and then a v/a LP (in true stereo). LG

  • @eljee46 Ahh Little Walter! I used to sit there with an 8 Track recorder just waiting for him to play something I didn't have. This song was one of them along w/ Mellowkings - Kids Stuff, Fascinators - Oh Rosemarie & Hey You, the list goes on. If I remember correctly, Sat. night 11PM to 1 AM? Do you remember "The Remember When Show w/ Rocky, The Duke Of DooWop? Actually his name is Steve Rothwell.

  • The flip side is "Meadowlark" Would it be possible to post that? I have Rainy Day Bells but I havent heard "Meadowlark" in years

  • Just listen to this rythem!!! I could listen to this all day!!

  • ahhhhhhhhh

  • If you're from SC you've heard this sound til you know it by heart.

  • This was my favorite song on The Globetrotters LP. Thanks!

  • Hey, it rained here in ole' Virginia, played this tune.....so GREAT...!!!!

  • Hey, it's raining today in Va., requesting this song!!! And, yes, always in a great mood when there is RAIN!~!!!!

  • OHHHHHHHHHHHH.....JUST LET ME FOREVER HEAR THIS TUNE, so great!!!!

  • I first heard this a few months ago on the Cousin Brucie show on Sirius. I loved it immediately! Couldn't believe it didn't come out in the 60's. I graduated in '75 but never heard this song until 2009.

  • Don't feel bad, I'm heavy into doo wop and didn't hear it until 1977 on the Little Walter Show. I try to imagine what this song would have done in 1963, I think it would have been a mega hit.

  • Would always request this on day's I just felt bad.....cheered me up every time.....love it!!

  • i know the feeling friend, trust me! Today was one of those days, it works!

  • The Picture is of the bootlegged copy,

    not the original label.

  • Wow, what the world needs, another critic, who ever said it was an original pressing? Besides, who asked and who cares?

  • @dowopper51 @dowopper51 It takes nothing away from the song itself, but it's the sort of detail ~I~ like to know, just in case it ever comes up in trivial discussions, or on an episode of antiques roadshow or something like that. :)

  • @msstacy13 It never will, It will always be a $5-$15 record. My good friend, this is youtube. Some folks get carried away during their browsing and like to be heard, mostly the one's who never post anything like sheetbird. If your collecting or ever considering it, YT is not the place for info, there are plenty of record guides available. I post only to share, I browse only to listen and I never comment any poster just to be a know-it-all unless I'm asked.

    Thanks 4 listening!

  • @dowopper51 Thanks for posting it. I don't collect records, but I like knowing details about them, although details should be presented tactfully, yes.

  • @msstacy13 I guess your critic #2 then. This is not ebay, if it was I would post label details, run-off numbers etched/stamped, leading edge sharp/round, # of lines in the run-off, raised or flat around label, vinyl quality styrene or vinyl. You want details? If I was to post all these details you wouldn't have any idea what I'm talking about. I posted 2100 songs to your "0" So, 2100 x 15-20 min per song, you do the math. You have the nerve to say "details should be presented tactfully, yes" WOW

  • @dowopper51 Please allow me to apologize. I meant that when someone posts additional details in a comment, they should do so tactfully. And you are correct-if I want details, I should probably look for them myself. But even without the details, I appreciate that you posted this song, and I'm sorry if I've been rude.

  • What a fantastic song. I started listening to this song back in the 70's & it never gets old. Don't you wish they made music like this today? Such talent; absolutely spectacular music.

  • Actually they do. Check out the Roomates, Crystalairs & the Elites for starters.

BTW, thank you for your comment!

  • @del1rn ...OH YES!!!!

  • Not so sure any Globetrotters are singing. James R Bailey --prior lead of Cadillacs sings lead here.

  • Bailey is doing lead no doubt, Meadolark Lemen of the Globetrotters sang in the backup vocals & I'm pretty sure the Cadillacs were also involved with the backups. This is probably why they used the name Globetrotters because of Lemen.

  • My mom has this same single. I've loved this song since I was about 2 years old!

  • Trust me I understand, one of the best tunes ever!!!

  • ahhhhh, gotta love this one. Great sound.

    Thanks DW,

    ken

  • I heard this on a radio station from Boston, on a cold Dec. night back in the early 1977. DJs name was Little Walter. I hit my top record stores the next day and found this copy. Surprisingly it was released in 1970, it blew my mind!

    BTW, your very welcome!

  • Thanks for the song and thanks to all of you who Blessed the Vietnam Vets. Lenny 66-67 Phu-Loi and Vung Tau

  • Your very welcome my friend! Yes, God Bless them all, I also had friends in that "quote" war. Shame on the USA.

  • Rainy day bells.............come sit with me for juist a moment inn ...time!

  • Nice video! Brings back good memories

  • This 45, spinner, cost 45.00$ on ebay!

  • Amazing, I bought this copy new for 79 cents in 1977. I wish I bought what I passed up in the mid to later 60s, big kick in the rearend on my behalf.

  • OMG!....ALWAYS suggested this song: when it was raining! love, love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AMAZING SONG. FANTASTIC.

Written by Neil Sedaka and his collaborator Howie Greenfield.

Sung by an unknown studio group.

    A M A Z I N G. stan6836

  • The back up group were actualy the Globe Trotters..Thats right not an unknown studio group, but the famous Globe Trotters..The Harlem GlobeTrotters to be exact..

  • OMG! my most favorite, my husband was in Viet-nam, and This song got me through the rough times!!!!

  • This song still gets me through the rough times, I also live in America. Viet-nam, I'm still waiting for America to give your husband a metal of honor & to say to him we did it for the money! I had friends that went to Viet-nam, don't even get me started. Give your husband a great big hug for us all because he surely deserves it! GOD love him!

    BTW, thank you!

  • God bless our Viet-NAM veterans, so many don't!!!!

  • yeah, me also, bring on the rain, can it get any ...lonelier????? lol

  • Ru me??? lol

  • The titel seems to match the last week perfectly! Rainy Days..."!

    Good posting Richard, Thanks.

  • One of my all time favorite beach songs to shag to. I remember learning to shag to this in1980 at the Galleon in OD ( when it was the original Galleon.)

  • ahhhhhhhh, one of my favorites !

  • YES, mine too!

  • I wish I had this when I was spinning oldies at ABC Radio Networks on the cruisin USA show. Great song

  • Surprisingly this was released in 1970, 10 years earlier it may have been a mega hit?

  • great song. suprised Neil wrote it but it sounds like his work. love it.

  • I had this promo 45 and the lp,too. ( It sounds a tad fast here.) My Dad worked in radio for 50 plus years and I grew up with extra copies of all sorts of things from WNAX and KRVN. Then I went into radio and took home a lot of discs from libraries that got liquidated for space or mono to stereo - the stupidest reasons but all the better for a collector.

  • My strobe isn't working, Pioneer DC Servo Direct Drive PL-55, it should be close though. What year are the records starting from?

  • I was lucky to have an uncle who was a disc jockey during this era so I know this version of this song.Glad to hear it again.

  • AHHHH, did you grab any records????

  • James R. Bailey is the lead singer. He did a few leads for the Cadillacs- best is "Please Be My Girlfriend."

  • James R. Bailey, hmm, I didn't know that.

  • Also, Meadowlark Lemon was involved with this track, he did some backup vocals.

  • This is a great song!!! I heard that the lead was too complicated for the lead singer of the Globtrotters so they used a studio singer... do you know if there is any truth to this?

    Thanks for the post!!

  • Hmm, I don't know? Let's hope someone does and fills us in, very iteresting!

    By the way, thanks!

  • Don Kirshner,Neil Sedaka,Jeff Barry,and the incredible Globetrotters...how could you go wrong?

    Wayne in Texas

  • go wrong?

    You simply can't!

    Thanks!

  • Great song ... the 'oldies' radio station in Charlotte use to play it all the time ... of course Magic 96 is gone so no more oldies. I like this song. Great shagging music.

  • I heard this on the radio only once back in the late 70s on a cold winter snowy night, on the Little Walter show, along with Hey You - Imaginations and Kid Stuff - Mellokings, this was the very 1st time I heard any of these 3, needless to say I bought all 3 a week later!

    Thank 4 listening!

  • Nice. I've heard this song by Neil Sedaka.

  • I don't believe Neil ever did. Norman Fox & Robroys wrote it and also sang it. I could be wrong about Neil, it won't be my 1st time.

  • Neil wrote the song with Howie Greenfield. Neil's own version uses the exact same music track (with different background singers, of course).

  • Yep. Neil does a good job but this song really calls for a "soul" type singer. Great find here. I'm sure that record is rare as all get out. Thanks for posting it.

  • I agree, Neil's voice is too sweet on his version.

  • Yes, correct! I got it mixed up with Tell Me Why. I call it, too much posting while having too many beers!

  • I like it. Good song.
