The 1st color TV program was an NBC special of Alice In Wonderland in 1953. Bonanza was the first all clor regular series.. Some shows were filmed in color long before that but never shown in color till later years. They were the Adventures of Wild Bill Hickock W/ Guy Madison. Cisco Kid-All episodes, Superman-half of them, Gene Autry show-2 seasons. I don't know of any others. Bozo started on WGN Chicago and then went into local syndication around the country.
Thanks for posting an amazing song, first time I've heard this and it really moved me. That said, I'm not sure I agree with those lamenting the state of modern music; one couldn't make a song like this today, it would sound dated and derivative. There's lots of good new music, but it reflects our current cultural and musical sensibilities--there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, if people were still making music like this, this song wouldn't be so special!
Great song, it's from the 70s but it has a very late 50s/early 60s Motown sound, like along the lines of Jackie Wilson or Major Lance. I gotta agree with the description, had this been realeased before 1967, this would've been a hit.
I take it most of you posters are not familiar with the Hanna-Barbera cartoon show from 1970.
The Archies' masterminds Don Kirshner & Jeff Barry were behind the musical part of the show, and Neil Sedaka and Howard Greefield wrote a few of the tracks on the Kirshner album.
You should try to catch some of the old episodes on Boomerang or Cartoon Network.
BTW; two more killer tracks from that album are "Bouncing All Over The World" & "Gravy". . .
I LOVE THIS SONG! ..........use to request it every day, when my old man was in NAM, was hoping he knew how much i missed him, and how much I wanted to see him. No such thing as i-phones, nothing, I had to rely on letters, ............no e-pad's, or cell-phones, just, OVER-AND-OUT.....
@TOMAN4EVER We didn't have a tenth of what we have now, but you were king of the streets if you owned a Transister Radio & I did, a little white Emerson. Our phone was on a party line w/ my neighbor who loved to talk. A 1948 Chevy Ice-Cream truck that came by around 6:00PM was the big treat. All the kids in the neighborhood played Hide-Go-Seek every night. Bozo was the 1st color TV program, then Bonanza. We didn't have much as compared 2 today, but life was simple, fun & now, cherished!
@dowopper51 doowopper51, hi it's tom d brick,nj.[doowopman49]. i really think that kukla, fran and ollie was the first "color program" however i may be confusing that with NBC NEWS . for me it's about a F-A-D-I-N-G memory and you're probably right.
Just became aware of this song today when Jerry Blavat played it on the radio. Good God Almighty...what a great record. It's such a shame that today's music bears absolutely no resemblance to this fantastic songwriting and singing. God bless the talented people who gave us great songs like this.
" It's such a shame that today's music bears absolutely no resemblance to this fantastic songwriting and singing. God bless the talented people who gave us great songs like this." Hey there, DW51, I knew Little Walter! He played countless obscure records from some greater-Boston radio stations long ago, and even released some of these oldies on records for us to buy. Loved Walter's shows, and miss them a lot now. This is an awesome song that I had on a 45 and then a v/a LP (in true stereo). LG
@eljee46 Ahh Little Walter! I used to sit there with an 8 Track recorder just waiting for him to play something I didn't have. This song was one of them along w/ Mellowkings - Kids Stuff, Fascinators - Oh Rosemarie & Hey You, the list goes on. If I remember correctly, Sat. night 11PM to 1 AM? Do you remember "The Remember When Show w/ Rocky, The Duke Of DooWop? Actually his name is Steve Rothwell.
I first heard this a few months ago on the Cousin Brucie show on Sirius. I loved it immediately! Couldn't believe it didn't come out in the 60's. I graduated in '75 but never heard this song until 2009.
Don't feel bad, I'm heavy into doo wop and didn't hear it until 1977 on the Little Walter Show. I try to imagine what this song would have done in 1963, I think it would have been a mega hit.
@dowopper51@dowopper51 It takes nothing away from the song itself, but it's the sort of detail ~I~ like to know, just in case it ever comes up in trivial discussions, or on an episode of antiques roadshow or something like that. :)
@msstacy13 It never will, It will always be a $5-$15 record. My good friend, this is youtube. Some folks get carried away during their browsing and like to be heard, mostly the one's who never post anything like sheetbird. If your collecting or ever considering it, YT is not the place for info, there are plenty of record guides available. I post only to share, I browse only to listen and I never comment any poster just to be a know-it-all unless I'm asked.
@dowopper51 Thanks for posting it. I don't collect records, but I like knowing details about them, although details should be presented tactfully, yes.
@msstacy13 I guess your critic #2 then. This is not ebay, if it was I would post label details, run-off numbers etched/stamped, leading edge sharp/round, # of lines in the run-off, raised or flat around label, vinyl quality styrene or vinyl. You want details? If I was to post all these details you wouldn't have any idea what I'm talking about. I posted 2100 songs to your "0" So, 2100 x 15-20 min per song, you do the math. You have the nerve to say "details should be presented tactfully, yes" WOW
@dowopper51 Please allow me to apologize. I meant that when someone posts additional details in a comment, they should do so tactfully. And you are correct-if I want details, I should probably look for them myself. But even without the details, I appreciate that you posted this song, and I'm sorry if I've been rude.

What a fantastic song. I started listening to this song back in the 70's & it never gets old. Don't you wish they made music like this today? Such talent; absolutely spectacular music.
Bailey is doing lead no doubt, Meadolark Lemen of the Globetrotters sang in the backup vocals & I'm pretty sure the Cadillacs were also involved with the backups. This is probably why they used the name Globetrotters because of Lemen.
