This is such a godly version of this song! The vibrato from 4:21-4:25 is nuts. Jeff was able to create his insane vibrato technique because he had an abnormally flexible jaw and a very slight amount of head-bobbing. It's something that you can't teach.
he is the only one of the great singers of our era, who can reach every single note he hit in the album or, and that's insane, even higher and better, in every show he played. no one like him, cornell? no, Kennedy (I love him too)? no... he was an immense singer and artist
That first part that has been taken out is one of the funniest shit I've seen Jeff do. And it was so cool to have seen his reaction, his frustration of always being compared or linked to his father, done on TV on the background while the host was clueless talking on the front. I was actually looking for this video because of that part. I enjoyed that first part so much.
Totally agree with gofusiesbass09 - the drumming on the album is outstanding. In fact, all of the playing is top quality. Shame that Jeff died so young. He still had so much to offer.
let your grass grow nice n' tall, lay down, look up into the sky & think/feel all things love, all things beauty, all things never ending, all things real, all things light, all things Jeff ...
Thank You, Jeff your voice has opened my heart again..If anyone is reading this remember the anniversary of his death is on 5/29 lets request his music on the radio lets get his music out to others to discover his amazing GRACE.
I was just a few months old when this was recorded. And I'm from London. Scary to think that during these moments I'm watching I was somewhere just a few miles away, unaware that this hero of mine even existed. And he was totally unaware that I would discover him. This was the closest I would ever be to Jeff's living body.
What a sad loss to music. I truly believe he could have changed the direction of contemporary "pop" music and brought us back to live music. He died in the river and we got Cheryl Cole & X Factor instead. RIP Jeff. RIP LIVE music.
@blondushka That doesn't even make sense. The volume of his guitar had nothing to do with a personal preference. His sound men were just terrible at micing his guitar. Not just in this performance, but pretty much all his live concerts. I'm not knocking Jeff at all. I love him, but his crew didn't do a good job of setting his output level.
just curious ive watched this song performed live so many times on youtube and the drummer doesnt seem to be doing the punchy hi hat sound in the verse - was this added in extra or what? drum machine? im confused
I've always thought of people saying that a performance was jaw dropping as just an expression. Yet, I noticed on a few occasions during this performance, my mouth was wide open at the talent this guy had. Ugh, makes me want to sing, but roommates are trying to sleep.
what an incredible video quality! I have never seen this one... Grace is one of the most powerful songs ever by one of the most powerful singers of all times.
This is the best live vocal performance of this song I've found. Unbelievable. I don't know whether to marvel or despair that I will never be able to sing this good.
@TheMrDobbins lol yeah i know, ive got pics of the chick that leant jeff her guitar, its still got jeffs grime on the scratchplate. looks so sad without it in jeffs hands
@FuckingStanz He's using the neck pickup. Tighe's guitar is louder in the mix than it should be, hence the grungy bits at the beginning of each verse.
@FuckingStanz Just noticed, later in the vid, he's using middle. Perhaps he changes pickup according to each section of the song? Can't say I'd noticed before. I'm going to have to listen to Grace again now, extra carefully :)
@NurseDischord That's the thing, in other live performances he's using different pickups in different parts than this version. Guess he just liked to switch things up often.
and she weeps on my arm walking to the bright lights in sorrow oh drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow oh my love and the rain is falling and i believe my time has come it reminds me of the pain i might leave leave behind wait in the fire... and i feel them drown my name so easy to know and forget with this kiss i'm not afraid to go but it goes so slow
the quality of this video is so damn good! almoust all buckleys videos are a little blurry or shot from far away!! loved it! cant stop thinking about jeff! hes my angel!
Nobody has or ever will sing like this again...it's just the way it is...that's why you have to appreciate everyone for who they are while they are on this earth.
both him and his father were murdered as were Bob Marley, JimMorisson, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Tupack Shakur, Notorious B.I.G. Michael Hutchence of INXS, Bob Dylan was silenced and never sang anti-Govt songs ever again, he knew he had to shut up, lest he be killed as well, O yes Peter Tosh as well murdered by powers that be, the Evil Octopus tentacles that takes away heroes, mens that stand out of the masses, They want a dumbed down, society ruled by big pharma, mil.ind.complex
ofcourse, all these singer did their own thing,...but Chris Cornell,...I'll take him over Robert Plant, Paul Rogers and all the lesser guys, EXCEPT James Dewar and Ozzie.
just my personal opinion.
this is my very first exposure to this guy, reco'd from a friend and I'm impressed.
One of the best songs of the 90s. Tends to be the one that non Buckley fans like.
I used to be such a big fan and then went completely off it as I got sick of all the Buckley wannabees with painful vocal gymnastics. Urrrgghhh.... But I just started thinking about checking him out again and watching this I forgot how awesome a band they were.
