@TheVriezenveen Why did this happen? One word- "Money." Can you imagine the amount of visitors this zoo would get if the public knew they could get up close and personal with the animal/s? Obviously the zoo assumed it could tame the lioness/them, shunting out any predatory instincts. Lessons are taught all around the globe that you can't domesticate a wild animal, and yet people still remain ignorant and attempt too, despite the lives lost due to this.

Another thing to take into consideration is that in some countries animals in zoos are only given a cage and not a habitat to live in... and this can drive them insane.
