Love the fact Crush 40 brought it old school Sonic composers for this game (Richard Jacques , Tommy T , Howard Drossin and more!) it shows and its the reason why this one of the best Sonic soundtracks in quite a while!

Agreed. You'll notice some games are tending towards soul-calibur/orchestral type of music, probably b/c of the sheer epicness that can be derived from that type of music! Examples: Sonic Unleashed/ Sonic & the Black Knight and even Street Fighter IV had some orchestral music instead of the usual trance/heavy metal.

Yah but so many game companies are using the orchestra bit more and more that it just makes video game music less significant. This is why I LUV SEGA music, because of their variety of styles (Sonic, Jet Set, MadWorld) as opposed to Nintendo's orchestra fetish, especially in the Mario series, it's not "bad" just boring. And at least SEGA spices up their orchestra music with rock/techno (i.e Crisis City, Eggman Day Boss, Solaris Phase 2, ect).

Nintendo uses many different genres, they mixed in techno with fiddle for Puzzle Plank Galaxy in Mario Galaxy 2, used rock for several tracks in Mario Sports Mix, , etc. Nintendo just uses orchestrations more because they fit their games better. It would be out of place for a Mario game to use guitars as heavy as His World or something. Just give some of their recent games a listen, most of it is way different.

@crazy4guitar3000 Mario's music style is too much different to compare. If we take the 3D Mario games like 64 or Sunshine (Galaxies if you want too), they have a lot of variations and picture the stages very well. Same goes for the Sonic's music style that goes the same way, so...

It depends more on the composers, the tastes and the atmosphere of the episode.
